What a Hotel Concierge Is, And What They Can Do For You - AFAR
"A central contemporary African art destination that offers private tours coordinated by a resident hotel art concierge; visitors can easily be introduced to major local artists and works via curated, behind-the-scenes access and expert-led visits." - Sarah Khan
"Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa Touted as the continent’s most important art gallery even before it opened in late 2017, the six-story MOCAA occupies more than 40 old grain silos in the Cape Town harbor area. On top of the structure is the six-story Silo Hotel, an exclusive property that belongs to the well-known local hotelier Liz Biden. The museum, a partnership between the V&A Waterfront and former Puma CEO Jochen Zeitz, focuses on collecting, preserving, researching, and exhibiting contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora. Spread across the more than 100 galleries will eventually be a permanent collection, a Costume Institute, temporary exhibitions, and centers for art education, photography, and the moving image."
"The Zeitz MOCAA is the largest museum of contemporary African art in the world—it's essentially Cape Town’s answer to the Whitney Museum in New York, or the Tate Modern in London. The collection is dedicated to contemporary art from all over the continent—from Swaziland all the way up to Senegal. Housed in an historic converted grain silo, which was redesigned by U.K.-based Heatherwick Studio, the building is almost as impressive as the work inside. Although the exterior of the lower part of the building remains unchanged, the interior has been completely transformed. When you’re done making your way through the exhibits, head up to the rooftop, where you’ll find the Silo Hotel, with city views and space to enjoy a well-deserved glass of local bubbly (though, note that reservations are required)." - Mary Holland
"A major cultural attraction on Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront, this museum is internationally recognized as the world’s largest institution dedicated to contemporary African art and draws visitors seeking modern African artistic voices and exhibitions."
The Zeitz Museum is an amazing experience on two levels. To begin, the museum’s six different exhibits are fascinating and they opened my mind to perspectives and aspects of art/history that I had never contemplated before. For example, the special exhibit focused on the generational trauma caused from French serving Senegalese fighting in Vietnam during the 1940-50s and the consequences that had upon families and cultures, a truly fascinating moment that I had never even considered in that context. Eye opening. The second aspect of the museum that boggles the mind and fills the soul with wonder is the museum itself. The Zeitz is truly an awe inspiring structure; the coolest museum I visited during my time in Cape Town.

Spacious viewing halls, clean simple signage, a leveled variety of exhibitions. The entrance foyer is something engineers and architecture students will truly love! The conversion of a grain silo into a museum is quite a phenomenal achievement.
The actual quality of art on display varies though. Some installations are modern and superb and others you can see are just fillers so you are not walking through empty halls.
Best to visit during the day, tire yourself, build and appetite and go for lunch at the neighboring restaurants.

A great experience of South African art, culture and history.
For South Africans: If you go on Wednesday between 10am-1pm it’s free with a valid ID. No need to prebook anything, just arrive at the entrance and show your id, they’ll issue you your free ticket.
Otherwise, it’s R250 per person.

Truly unique shape building and amazing modern architecture, it gives aesthetic pleasure to watch it.
Most of expositions were a bit disappointing and some of them were very controversial having in themselves an insignificant share of art and unaesthetic. But few artworks got into my heart.
Anyway the place is Must Visit in Cape Town!
And if you’re African you even can visit the museum for free on Wednesday 10am-1pm.

I used a city pass to visit and I was ushered in in seconds.loved the massive rooms, the art displays accompanied by descriptions from the artists and that they related to every day life.
Oh, we were each given some A3 photo prints to carry home😀
Go there when you have ample time and energy to peruse through all floors🫶🏼
Be present, enjoy the art💯

One of my favourite places to visit when in Cape Town. The architecture is breathtaking. They feature a wide variety of contemporary artists. South-African citizens can visit free of charge on Wednesdays. Just bring your ID.

Very interesting museum build within and old grain silo. Permanent and temporary exhibition across the floors with local artists from across Africa. In a rainy day, there’s less of the open spaces to explore.
