The Best Places to Eat and Drink in Albuquerque, New Mexico - AFAR

"A dual‑location café that doubles as an art gallery, serving distinctive drinks like an Aztec latte (dark chocolate and cayenne) and a fizzy espresso special topped with house whipped cream, alongside excellent pastries from a local bakery, including noteworthy gluten‑free doughnuts." - Aislyn Greene

The iced dark chocolate mocha with oat milk I had was delicious, and the barista was friendly. They have food and pastries available so this is a good spot to meet friends. There’s both indoor and outdoor seating options.

The zia latte was so good! Old school music, plants, and overall a good vibe!! Great customer service. Not many coffee shops are morning people, and the Ladies there definitely were in a good mood:)

Google
Turkish latte was excellent. Americano was good. Pastry not too sweet, just the way we like it! More room out back in the shared patio with Sidetrack Brewing Co., nice casual area to hang out. 18% lowest option for tipping the cashier was a little off putting, but there was an option for custom tipping

We are visiting from New York and are coffee enthusiasts. This is one of the best latte I have ever had. My husband also enjoyed his tea a lot.

I've been in a handful of times now. The coffee and food is decent. The staff is polite and the Cafe is cozy and quiet. Most recently I happened to be handed the coffee in the picture. A little funny maybe. Not sure of it's just a general political statement, of if I said something.

It’s Thanksgiving Day and I stopped by for coffee. Zendo makes the best coffee. With that said, I’m kinda fed up with this place after many years of repeated visits. Today I waited 30 minutes for my coffee, which is unusual. Yes it was busy but frankly it’s always busy. While I waited I witnessed all three baristas do shots of whiskey behind the counter and they didn’t even attempt to be low key about it. Not cool. The music these kids play, while I find much of it enjoyable, it’s just not the appropriate setting. It’s loud and hyphy and I feel like I’m about to do ten lines of coke. In previous visits they’ve played Kendrick Lamar. I do love me some Kendrick Lamar but again not the appropriate setting. It’s vulgar and people are coming here with their kids. It would be nice if they created a more chill vibe with mellow music. On top of that, the staff are rude. It’s like “I’m too cool” to smile or say thank you and you’re welcome etc. If I thank the barista for my coffee, the proper thing to do is say you’re welcome with a smile instead of silence or a grunt. On top of all that, it’s a total hassle to even find parking. Not worth it. I’m swearing off this place for good. I do think the lady who owns this place is a really nice woman and has a really nice spot. I love the plants and the beautiful tables she put in there and the artwork is cool too as well as the back patio. And the baristas are well trained in how to make good drinks. I hope she will find some mature adults who can handle professionalism but that’s a stretch.

My favorite place to set up my day with reading and good drinks. Staffs are top notch and they always make good drinks!

Google
Excellent place to get your coffee on. Great beverages and pastries, served by friendly folks. Bring your pooch and try a latte!

Yelp
Really cute coffee shop in downtown Albuquerque. Coffee was delicious, barista was super friendly and they have a lot of cool art up.

Yelp
I really like Zendo Coffee! The cafe has good vibe, good music and some of their drinks are more unique (for example, try their ube latte!!). After trying several times to stop by this cafe (but previously all unsuccessful because I could never find any parking spots nearby enough!), I finally got my luck when I happened to drive by at the same time someone was leaving a parking spot in front of the cafe! The vibe was so good, great music, great people and nice selection of drinks (and some cafe items) and I sat for a couple of hours finishing my work. I would love to stop by here to hang out again and crossed my fingers that I could be as lucky to find a parking spot nearby this cafe again!

Yelp
This is a very cute shop - good background music and nice for either indoor or outdoor seating! Super friendly and prompt service. I used the space to get some work done, they had plenty of seating available especially if you are ok with sharing long tables with others. My latte was delicious and beautifully presented.

Yelp
Cute spot, friendly service with street parking. Be aware that if you come during rush hour, you might be waiting for a while to get your drink.

Yelp
The iced dark chocolate mocha with oat milk I had was delicious, and the barista was friendly. They have food and pastries available so this is a good spot to meet friends. There's both indoor and outdoor seating options

Yelp
We went because it was open late and we had time to kill before our flight. Parking is a little hard to find on the street. The coffee drinks itself lacked a strong coffee taste. The service was lackluster. The back outdoor area is nice. It's also located next to a small brewery and they share the back patio area which gives you more options for a group. The place is pretty busy with groups working on their laptops. The outside bathroom is gross for women who have to stare right at the urinal across from the toilet.
google avatar

Destiny L.

Yelp
I like Zendo but I don't frequent it because they tend to stay busy and seating is sometimes hard to find. It is a cool space though and I love coming for Art Walk when they do things. They tend to have a really great selection of pastries and I like their menu offerings including their more unique drinks like the Sweet Bonnie which is one of my favorite options. It is a tea based latte with like a vanilla citrus flavor to it.
google avatar

Julie R.

Yelp
Love love love their iced coffee, especially an iced cafe con Leche. I love that the option to upgrade to coffee cubes exists and its only a 50 cent upcharge. Parking can be tricky because its usually busy and most parking is street parallel parking. The vibes are welcoming and chill. I love the esthetic.
google avatar

Alyssa C.

Yelp
They make a decent oat milk cappuccino! Can't speak for the other menu items quite yet. I stopped by for a quick 30 minute break between meetings. There were plenty of customers in this small shop so I stepped out to the patio in the back. Lots of seating back there. It was laid back and quiet outside.

Yelp
I was reading some good feedback about this place online so decided to give it a try. My first impression was mostly about the line at Zendo being so long, which I felt was a mixed blessing because it probably meant the food and drinks were going to be good. By the time it was my turn to order I noticed the whole time I was in line that people were buying up the desserts I wanted, but they weren't prepared for the crowd and didn't have replacement items ready. So once it was my turn, I was out of luck haha. The coffee here was very creative and pretty good, they even had Turkish coffee ice cubes! Never heard of something like that until I had it here. The coffee was great, I enjoyed it very much and I think if I lived across the street I would alternate between this and Starbucks every other time.

Yelp
This is how I imagine a typical city coffee shop. Cool vibe & good coffee with impressive seasonal drinks. I got an ube hot latte and it was both gorgeous and good. I went with a stroller and there wasn't space inside for me to sit. It was nice out so enjoying the outdoor space was nice.
google avatar

Ariana B.

Yelp
Nice coffee shop, very spacious and aesthetically pleasing. Coffee was tasty, not super cold but still tasty. Service was good and fast.
google avatar

Laura P.

Yelp
Came by on a Monday afternoon and it was quite busy. Lots of people sitting down with their laptops and working, and there was a steady flow of people walking in ordering. Service was quick and friendly at the register and seems like one of the more trendy coffee shops in the area.
google avatar

Percival N.

Yelp
Nice little caf for working or reading. Soft music, good Wi-Fi, and the latte art made me smile. The muffin was still warm, perfect!:)))

Amin A.

Yelp
Coffee was mid, but the customer service was worse. At first, I was treated fine. But I heard the way the barista would interact with other customers as the day went on, and it was awful-- full of attitude. Now, my favorite part of the experience: Toward the end of the day, a homeless man walked in and politely asked if there was a pastry item that could be donated. She said no, and he silently walked out of the cafe. I went up to the counter and told her that I'd like to buy him something to eat, and she refused to sell me anything. Bravo on your inhumanity.

Yelp
My wife and I went this morning for the first time. The service was prompt and atmosphere was inviting. The coffee was excellent! I'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Lindsay B.

Yelp
This is a really nice coffee shop with a huge variety of drinks and also pastries are offered. The service was friendly, fast and helpful. There is always local art on the walls. This place has a great atmosphere and I always enjoy visiting.

Yelp
I stopped in Zendo after a long two mile walk across different Albuquerque neighborhoods. The coffeeshop was super cute and bright with lots of tables (both community tables to share and more private tables) and a large counter. After perusing the menu (does anyone else feel a lot of pressure to make a decision quickly when entering a new coffeeshop, even though they have like a bajillion drinks?)--I decided on the Turkish latte. Why? Well, I've been to Turkey and enjoy Turkish coffee, so I figured a Turkish latte could be fun. The drink itself was fine--it was a little too sweet for my liking and it had a cardomon flavor. I enjoyed it, but it more or less reinforced that I'm more of a plain black coffee type of drinker with a love of plain espressos. I do like a good Turkish coffee too! Either way, Zendo has a plethora of options, drinks, and flavors. The back patio comes out to a brewery and overall I thought the space was really cool and interesting. I'd definitely suggest checking it out!

Kyle D.

Yelp
I've came here for years, probably since it opened... and I hate to say this to this coffee shop since I enjoyed coming to this location... but the quality in the coffee has gone down. I would rather drink coffee from an Allsup's then drink coffee from their new coffee maker. I haven't gone back in a month. I used to love their coffee, but I don't enjoy it anymore. I'm sorry. Hopefully it will improve. I missed their chemex since I only drank their coffee black.

Yelp
The Zia Latte is perfectly structured. The dark chocolate with the espresso compliment each other so well (not too sweet but not too strong). The green chile burrito with Cholula was delicious and very filling (I only ate half). The overall vibes of the baristas and environment are peaceful and eloquent. Would definitely come back again.

Yelp
What better way to host an art gallery then to serve excellent coffee and encourage people to hang out and work? That's what I thought when Zendo first opened years ago. This remains true today. Zendo is probably the hippest/mod/au courant/smart coffeehouse in the area. Their coffee is solid. They buy it from local roaster Odacrem, who buys from an international collection of coffee farms. Then they roast it. Zendo is the model coffeehouse that newer local coffeehouses have based their asethete on. I love their various coffee concoctions, including their Aztec Latte, Turkish Latte, and Cortado. They currently buy their burritos from Three Sisters Kitchen. Coffee may be the first thing people think of when they think of Zendo. But their casual gallery is a perfect excuse when thinking of places to meet for coffee. They are discerning when they select artists to exhibit their art. Zendo is a great place to work with their long communal benches and outdoor patio.

Yelp
Solid coffee. They have a diverse menu from chocolatey to nutty lattes. Their menu does expand to a seasonal option which when I visited had an Ube latte and a rose cardamom latte. The ube needed more upff , make adding coconut milk or a coconut syrup. The rose latte cardamom was perfectly balanced. The rose syrup was not overly powering and the cardamom had a great after taste component. In both drinks the espresso flavor was not lspt but could be tested in every sip. The baristas were great! They smiled the whole time , were able to guide me to a great drink, and were polite. Plenty of space in the coffee shop and in the back. Parking can be difficult to find depending on the time of day.

Yelp
First coffee of the day and I'm here at Zendo. Awesome to see a cortado on the menu. That's my cue to see if it's a real coffee shop with baristas or just folks who press buttons on a machine. This is definitely the former. My cortado was perfection. Half steamed milk and half espresso in a short glass. Rich coffee, plenty of caffeine without 16 ounces of milk. Ideal. On a Sunday morning at 7:32 am, Zendo was busy enough that my first spot to sit didn't have power. But after a bit, another customer went elsewhere and I was able to plug in my laptop and phone. Five star worthy. I'd love to return to Zendo. [Review 21078 overall - 125 in New Mexico - 41 of 2024.]

Yelp
I decided to try out Zendo before leaving town on my road trip to Vegas and I'm so glad I did! The latte that I had here was probably the best latte I have ever had in my life! Kid you not! I ordered just a regular latte with coconut milk, extra hot and it was perfect! No additional sweetener needed and the strength of the espresso in the latte was well balanced. Not too strong or too weak. I also ordered a Zia dark chocolate latte with regular milk and my husband really liked it! Then I ordered a green burrito and a red burrito and those were also probably one of the best breakfast burritos I've ever had. Unfortunately they swapped the labels by accident and I ended up eating a bit of the red burrito which was way too spicy for me but still pretty delicious. Overall, this is definitely a true five star coffee joint food-wise but customer service could definitely use some improvement especially with 3 people working the counter. If I'm ever in town again, I will definitely be making my way to Zendo again. If you haven't tried it yet, I highly recommend that you do. Your tastebuds will thank you!

Yelp
Was visiting for the weekend and found Zendo as soon as we landed. Love the downtown energy, bright indoors (floor to almost ceiling windows), lovely and large green plants, neighborhood vibe, and super friendly staff. They have unsweet almond milk which is a great way to minimize sugar in your drinks. The golden is really fun and surprisingly spicy! The ube was pretty mild in flavor and I'd suggest adding an extra shot of espresso. Will def come back next time we're in town!

Yelp
Good ZENdo! Ok, pardon the #DadHumor. I recently had a chance to meet one of my team members for a Friday morning coffee at ZENdo. It is downtown, located on Second Street. I was able to grab a space nearby, in front of FastSigns (they weren't open yet). One of my team members had a drip coffee. I had a latte with four shots of espresso, six shots of vanilla, nonfat milk. I know! The coffee was exceptional and the classic latte art held throughout my drink. When does that happen? The vibe was great and only surpassed by the coffee.
google avatar

Lance V.

Yelp
Cold brew is on point and well crafted. Coffee ice cubes! The Mango Chile Sucker Cold Brew is unique and delicious, nice little kick to it. Zia Latte also delicious. Great vibe and staff is awesome.
google avatar

Yelp
Really cool and good service staff. Great atmosphere and plenty of seating. Food is wonderful. Love the daily fresh donuts. Worth the trip.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a quaintly cool coffee shop and local art makes great decor to peruse while waiting for your order. The coffee was strong - just how we like it - and the service was fast and friendly. Just don't ask for a "plastic" spoon. ;)~
google avatar

Yelp
Great spot for a drink and grab a quick bite for bfast or a snack while waiting to board the trains. Or plugin and/or read the papers. Red Chili burrito is yummy and satisfying! Have to try the Green Chili next. Ample space/seating inside and out, pet-friendly and bike-friendly. Quick service with a smile, a great find!
google avatar

Jamie A.

Yelp
This place is awesome! They were busy but we were still in and out pretty quickly--and that was with ordering and waiting for our food to go! We had the green chile burritos and they were SO good. Definitely recommend. I also had a chai latte which was well spiced and delicious. Their donuts were a tiny bit dry (we were there around 9:30am) but still really yummy and satisfying. The service was friendly, the shop was clean and for how compact and busy it was, we were still able to find a place to sit while waiting for our order. I believe they have some outdoor seating but since we didn't really spend much time at the shop i didn't do much exploring, so not sure if it's a shared space or just for the coffee shop. In any case it was worth it to come and try it out!
google avatar

Cecilia L.

Yelp
Good coffee spot; cold brew is great and their ice is also using coffee so it doesn't dilute it which is great Latte is medium to dark roast but still tastes rather light
google avatar

Kevin M.

Yelp
This place is so good! The coffee, food, and ambiance make it for a great spot! Coffee: I got the Zia latte which tasted so good! I got it mixed with both white and dark chocolate. With the hint of cinnamon, it tasted wonderful! Breakfast burrito: this burrito is good. I didn't feel it was too special but it tasted good. Dessert: there were a bunch of pastries to choose from! My favorite was the monkey bread which was like the inside of a cinnamon roll. I would definitely come here again!

Yelp
This was my first time at Zendo, a quaint coffee/tea bar in downtown Albuquerque. I ordered the bear claw and a Turkish latte. Both the bear claw and the coffee were delicious. My friend had the blood orange tea and appeared equally happy with her choice. Please note that this location does not serve regular breakfast but rather has a nice selection of freshly made pastries and donuts. The cafe has good customer service and friendly cashiers. The coffee bar was clean, neat, and well organized. The cafe was full inside but we were planning on sitting in their outdoor space, which is covered with heaters. Unfortunately the heaters didn't seem to be on so we stayed wrapped up to try and stay warm. It was strange that the heaters didn't seem to be on because the outdoor was full with lots of customers. Everyone seemed chilly so I don't think it was just us. Also, in the middle of our conversation someone started using a circular saw on the patio to cut pallets or something. We basically had to stop talking because we couldn't hear each other due to the noise. At that point we looked for a new place to sit on the patio and luckily one opened up that had both sun, so it was warm, and it was around the corner from where the person was doing construction work. It seemed strange that they would choose Sunday morning to use power tools on the patio given that this is generally a time when people like to relax and chat. When they are not doing construction I imagine this is quite a nice place to chill out on a weekend or really anytime. I will definitely be giving them another chance but I'll probably try a few other places before I go back.

Yelp
My cousin, who lives in Albuquerque, suggested this coffee shop as a meeting place, and I'm so glad he did. I love coffee shops, and this one did not disappoint. I ordered an iced vanilla latte, and it definitely met my expectations. The place also has a good amount of seating, perfect if you need to work from a coffee shop. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Mannie S.

Yelp
I like Zendo because they serve good coffee but not with an attitude. It is not that common for specialty coffee shop to spend much emphasis on espresso drinks with different flavors. It's almost like if you add this or that in your coffee, you don't know your coffee. At Zendo, you can find good coffee the way you like it, either you are a coffee snob or not. I also like that they try to create an environment where you can study, work, or hangout. Practically though, it is a bit too loud for me to concentrate when I tried to work here. Will bring ANC earbuds next time.

Lee T.

Yelp
Zendo, with its indoor and outdoor seating creates a nice vibe. Espresso is solid (cold brew is alright), but the baristas can be a bit jaded. Place tends to be packed. Definitely the spot to go to for a bit of a bustling atmosphere and to meet up with someone.
google avatar

Andrea G.

Yelp
We ordered a Zia latte, London fog and two breakfast burritos. The Zia latte(white) was iced and tasted very good although because it has cinnamon I think it'd taste even better hot! The London fog was AMAZING. I'm very picky when saying this because I make them at home so I cause have them the way I like it, which is a little sweeter and more vanilla. It was just that. My son loved it. The breakfast burritos were decent. Street parking right in front.
google avatar

Ri H.

Yelp
We found this place on yelp while traveling and loved it so much that we went the next day too. The coffee is yummy!
google avatar

Ashley A.

Yelp
I love their iced Zia coffee with white & dark chocolate! It's absolutely delicious, has hints of cinnamon which activates this slight spice with creamy chocolate flavor! It's a must try! If you pay with cash it's cheaper. Service is alright, they get pretty snippy when it gets busy lol. Ambiance is nice, love all the plants. They have indoor & outdoor seating.
google avatar

Jessica R.

Yelp
The coffee was good and it's in a great location. Service was okay. Would recommend this place
google avatar

Kent M.

Yelp
Accident to find/see actually driving to airport from hotel for earlier than expected departure. Cool setting and seating with wonderful folks doing what they do! Large size only here and is SMALL cup...again!! Hmmm
google avatar

David P.

Yelp
Coffee was good but the baristas were pretty snobby and stingy with serving a simple cup of black coffee. I ordered a black coffee and they served it to me in the tiniest of cups. When I asked if there was a bigger cup they flatly/borderline rudely replied: "that's the biggest we've got." -- then I sat down across the person I was meeting and noticed he had a very normal sized cup (at least 12ozs). When I came back up for a refill (as is normal for most coffee establishments) - for my tiny cup they declined and said I'd have to buy another.
google avatar

Miriah O.

Yelp
The ambiance was beautiful, the girl who helped serve us was super nice, & food and coffee was absolutely delicious. What turned me off was seeing a young lady fixing her hair with a hair pick behind the coffee bar. Had I not seen that, I would have left with a much better intention of going back.
google avatar

Marie S.

Yelp
Came here the weekend before last. I had heard of the place before. The line was long for a Saturday morning and parking was a little difficult. There were still several tables left both inside and outside on the patio (where we sat). I had my eye on a coconut donut, but I'll come back for that another time. I got an iced latte with coconut flavoring and macadamia nut (unique). Overall, the flavor wasn't too strong, but slightly sweet. My friend got the London fog. It was a nice atmosphere and the baristas were friendly. It's a place that might appeal to the IPA hipster kind of crowd 2023 #8

Yelp
This cute coffee shop has excellent service and delicious drinks. I'm visiting Albuquerque for work and decided to stop in to try some coffee. I got the Turkish Latte, iced one day and hot the other day. Also the workers are very sweet and wrote a cute message on my cup. Definitely a must try!
google avatar

Andreana T.

Yelp
Good Vibes and good coffee. If you are looking for a good place to do work and sip on some coffee, this is definitely a spot you should try.
google avatar

Brian H.

Yelp
Great coffee shop with a very friendly staff. The donut was fresh, warm, and soft. I ordered an Americano and the guest espresso and both of them were delicious. The seating is more communal bench style with a few private tables in the corners. There's a beautiful outdoor seating on the backside of the business.
google avatar

Marina H.

Yelp
This place was so amazing that I went twice in a 2 day trip. The vibe was a mix of social and studious. There is a nice outdoor space that is shared with a brewery. We had a total of 4 drinks there and rate them all 5 stars - Extra Hot Turkish latte (honey cardamom clove, nutmeg), Extra Hot Oat Rose Latte (not exact name, but it was a seasonal drink), extra hot Golden Latte (dark chocolate mocha with ginger and cayenne) and Aztec latte (dark chocolate with cayenne). The reason these drinks were so amazing is that the emphasis was placed on the spices paired with the coffees, not extra sweetness and sugar. On my second visit I tried Sunday's Bagels and really enjoyed a sesame bagel with scallion schmear. The next time I am in Albuquerque I will 100% go back!
