We visited the Paul Klee Museum on the recommendation of a friend. Although I enjoyed the experience overall, and the architecture of the museum is truly stunning, I was a bit disappointed by how few of Klee’s actual works were on display during our visit. The layout and building itself are worth seeing, but I didn’t feel it was great value for money at 15 francs per ticket. If you’re a big fan of modern architecture or Klee’s work, it may still be worth a visit—just check what’s currently on exhibition first.

Super small collection of Paul Klee paintings - in the basement! Best part is the building itself. Go there, have a look at the architecture and use the CHF 20 for a nice coffee break somewhere else!

A beautiful construction by the famous Italian architect Renzo Piano. Currently an interesting exhibition of the early paintings and drawings of Le Corbusier in addition to the works of Paul Klee for which this museum was built.

Joyful Journeys

In addition to the collection, there are always exciting temporary exhibitions. Until June 22, 2025, this is an extremely impressive and comprehensive exhibition on the artistic work of Le Corbusier. A visit is absolutely worthwhile.

Beautiful building by Renzo Piano, but the Klee collection is minimal about 80 paintings out of 4000 in one small exhibition. It was quite disappointing. The sculpture park is also nothing to talk about, not impressive. The entrance price is way too high for the small collection on display. I included a qr for audio for some of the paintings on display. Check it out to see whether you want to visit.

I was back to my favorite Swiss art museum, this time to see the recently opened exhibition on the Swiss-born architect Le Corbusier (Charles-Edouard Jeanneret from La Chaux-de-Fonds in the Swiss Jura mountains). Most of what is on display covers the years principally devoted to his painting and sculptor career up till the end of the 1940-ies, when his architectural activity took off to dominate his professional life. The exhibition is beautifully curated and despite being a Corbusier fan since my young years, e.g. for well over 60 years, there were lots of new information to learn about. This is definitely one of the top museums for modern art in Switzerland, honoring its citizen Paul Klee. Just now there are two exhibitions, one presenting his contemporary, Juan Miró and the second, featuring a selection of Klee's work, called "the technical frenzy of Klee". Both are extremely interesting and should not be missed. The premises are beautiful and themselves worth a visit and the museum shop is of high quality. We particularly like the Klee postcard section where you will always find something appealing to send to you friends or beloved ones. A must when visiting Berne.

Yelp
Definitely worth going. The grounds and the building itself are quite beautiful. We had less than two hours, I think 2-3 hours would have been more than enough time. The Paul Klee collection is inspiring. We also saw the collection of Brazilian art, which was encouragingly diverse across many dimensions. The gift shop had several things I would've loved to buy if I'd had room in my bag.

Yelp
This is wonderful architectural landmark on a picturesque hillside in Bern with a rotating colllection of art by Paul Klee and his contemporaries. When I purchased my ticket the staff explained that the collection is constantly rotating so I may not be able to see my favorite works by Paul Klee, but I definitely discovered new artwork by him and also other artists in circle. There was an incredible collection of drawings by Paul Klee and an audio visual display. They do have guided tours and they even have one in English. There are free documetary films playing, usually on either Klee or one of his contemporaries. The museum is beautifully situated and you can take some wonderful photographs of the surrounding mountains and also see a great view of Bern. I walked to the museum and it's a bit of a hike uphill but it's so pretty because you pass by various rivers and residential area. I learned a lot about Klee's life, his contemporaries and also his struggles during the 1930s. Definitely a must see if you want to visit the best museum in Bern. My only gripe is that if you don't read German It is difficult to decipher all the information on the walls but you can rent an audio guide and listen to it in English and other languages. I wish that there had been free information on the walls regarding the artwork in French or Italian (2 other official Swiss languages) because I do speak those languages. There's a wonderful children's center in the museum which looks really fun. Also some colorful seating areas and a very good café.

Yelp
This is a great museum...if you like Paul Klee. Well, even if you don't, you should just go. The museum and the space itself is beautiful. Klee is a Swiss-born artist and this museum pays homage to his life's work. They also feature other artists in a rotating exhibit. You are allowed to take photographs in the museum which is nice and they have a super awesome children's center with easels and fun activities for the little ones, so if you have small children they would LOVE it here. Many of Klee's work resonates with children's artwork, with the forms, colors, shapes and lines he used. We also really enjoyed the gift shop, and they had reasonably priced knick-knacks and fun stuff (reasonably priced for a museum and Switzerland :) ) We also dined in at the museum snack bar area, the food was just o.k., and not a huge selection so if you're super hungry afterwards grabbing a coffee and a treat (nuss gipfeli anyone?) I might recommend that over getting your full lunch here. They carry the Chaya iced teas here which are super delicious but prety expensive...5 CFH. All in all though, this is a great museum to come to if you are in the Bern area. Expect to spend between 1-2 hours for your visit.

Yelp
The Paul Klee Zentrum in Berne, Switzerland is one of leading art museums in the world. The combination of Paul Klee´s paintings - the largest collection in the world with nearly 40% of his oeuvre - in this very special building from Renzo Piano is a must. If you in Berne, please do not forget a visit in Kunstmuseum Bern = Art Museum Berne. Enjoy both! Best regards, LAMOW | Leading Art Museums of the World
