I haven't written a review in awhile, but since this was our first real trip for recreation since COVID, I had to share my EXTREME disappointment.
It is basically fraudulent to call this place a resort. Seeing all that the Zermatt "had to offer," we thought we would make the most of our trip and stay another night, but all they really had to offer was the view. After realizing our friends changed their hotel to stay by the airport so they could leave sooner, we almost followed suit. This place is for people who rent a car, and stay in a condo or a villa, buy their own groceries and can drive into town. There is nothing in walking distance besides the one restaurant and coffee shop (the bakery and on site Starbucks was the only perk). Our last day we literally sat in the room waiting until it was time for dinner before our friend rescued us for some sight seeing. There is a QR code to scan for room service, then goes to a page that says there IS NO room service. No stores, or even a bar tender at the bar most of the time.
Fine, I figured I would make a spa appointment. That was one of the reasons we stayed here and figured it would be a nice splurge. There was no availability all weekend. NOTHING about this place was luxury or resort.
I was excited because we were able to book an ADA room online vs. having to call like the other hotel option. It was hardly accessible. The room was SMALL, and my husband could barely turn his wheelchair around. Things like the shower, hair dryer, and coffee maker were completely out of reach, and the door was EXTREMELY heavy and difficult to open. There is no way it was up to ADA code.
I think the absolute worst part of the Zermatt was the complete lack of customer service, and the generally grimy and outdated property itself. Every time we asked for ANYTHING, we were treated as though we were an annoyance. I had a large box of medical supplies delivered and was rudely told we could not have assistance bringing it to our room. When I asked if it had arrived I was met with general sass, and it was as though none of the front desk staff even understand what we were asking. Our room was dark, dingy, and smelly. There was not even a fan option in the bathroom so there was no air circulation and everything just felt old and used. The walls are PAPER THIN and we heard all the discussion and activity of our neighbors on all sides of us. The pillows made a plastic rustling sound every time we moved, and the comforter was thin and old, with a sheet on top.
Our room was not cleaned the entire time we were there. It was never conveyed to us that there was a change in policy, so we revolved our days around making sure housekeeping could get in our room. Finally on our THIRD day, I asked to get our room cleaned- at this point we had a pile of used towels and overflowing trash, all of our glasses had been used, and it was just beyond the point where we could manage it ourselves. I was told "We are only servicing rooms of guests staying four or more nights." (AKA the athletes that are occupying most of the rooms) This is DISGUSTING. During a pandemic, you are not even cleaning rooms of people who request it? We should not be reusing cups that other people have drank out of. The guy at the front desk asked if there was anything we needed INSTEAD OF GETTING OUR ROOM CLEANED, and I specified that we needed toilet paper and new glasses. We get home that evening to find A GARBAGE BAG OF TOWELS AND TOILETRIES in our entry way. NO TOILET PAPER OR CLEAN GLASSES.
Unbelievable.
There were no rideshare cars or transportation available, and one of our friends had to wait hours for a $100+ car service to get back to the city before their flight. Luckily we were able to get a ride back, as I feared we would be stuck in the horror movie called the Zermatt. If you want to pay $1,000 for a ramada feel and some overpriced BBQ this is for you, otherwise I'd stay in SLC where you know you can get back to civilization.
