We were excited to try Zig Zag after seeing so many positive reviews, but our experience didn’t meet expectations.
Positives:
- We didn’t have a reservation, so there was a short wait in the designated area, where we were offered a complimentary mini pisco sour — a very nice touch.
- Our waitress was attentive, and the interior is warm and inviting, featuring historic stone walls and wood furniture that give it a rustic charm.
Negatives:
- We were seated near the kitchen, and the atmosphere was disrupted by staff laughing and talking loudly amongst themselves.
- The complimentary bread came with compound paprika butter, though it didn’t taste even slightly of paprika
- We ordered the Trío Especial de Carnes (lamb, beef, and alpaca, all medium rare) with mashed potatoes and vegetable gratin as sides. Unfortunately, all three meats were unevenly cooked — the alpaca was overcooked, while the lamb was undercooked.
- The sides were just alright; the mashed potatoes were average, and the vegetable gratin was served cold.
- The accompanying sauces were fine, though the green one was extremely mild and had almost no flavour.
Overall, this was a disappointing visit, especially considering the high expectations we had for this restaurant.
