On the Grid : Zig Zag Wanderer

"If you don’t look carefully, you could almost miss Zig Zag. Nestled next to one of Alberta’s busiest brunch spots, it’s a small vintage store full of eclectic treasures. The clothes are thoughtfully curated but not exorbitantly priced, and complemented by locally-crafted jewelry and a dreamy collection of consigned rugs. Plus, it smells really good in there. The greatest folky garment hits from the 60s through the 90s." - OMFGCO

Zig Zag is a fantastic local second-hand clothing store, a little bit of everything for adults. There are lots of great shirts, jackets, and sweaters. Fun t-shirts to browse through, and the employees are all generally happy. Fun to shop where the employees like what they do.

Google
The coolest curated vintage clothing store! So many amazing and unique finds. We bought more clothing here then any others place! They do such a good job selecting the most interesting clothes for sale.

This shop is amazing! Will definitely return. Very nice clothing in great condition. The organization makes shopping so easy. A lot of vintage and thrift shops can be an overwhelming mess, but not Zig Zag.

One of my favorite vintage stores I’ve ever stepped foot in! Had the coolest clothes I wanted to bring home the whole store!! I tried on jeans that made me shed tears upon putting them on!! Would definitely recommend giving it a look!!!

Google
Great vintage shop! Prices are reasonable for "vintage". The owner has a great eye for things. I have found several pieces here that I love and wear over and over again.

Yelp
Zig Zag is the rare balance of quaint and trendy. It is NOT: -overwhelming like Buffalo Exchange or Goodwill -smelly like old people's closets -overpriced It IS -well organized -well curated -welcoming -denim heavy The clerk was really nice and looked exactly like the kind of person I would imagine work here (slightly bearded, Warby Parker looking glasses, hat, well dressed). Glad I made the stop when I came to visit. Glad I didn't overpack on the way here so I could squeeze my purchases in hehe

Yelp
Really fun looking at the clothes, their color coordinated which is awesome. Found two items that fit great, they have an incredible selection of jeans. It's very clean and well maintained.

Yelp
Really cute vintage shop with some nice finds. They're practicing all safety precautions -- hand sanitizer, masks, distancing, and steaming clothes after trying on. I was able to walk away with some really cute tops, but my gripe was that the store was organised by item type, but not by size at all. However, it was all-gendered, so that was definitely a plus. If you want to find something, it's worth it, but you'll definitely have to dig. Additionally, while there was a really good assort of items, they were all a bit higher than you'd expect for secondhand, but saving mother earth is not cheap!

Yelp
Not sure whether the issue was racism or just horrible customer service. I walked in to no greeting, no offer to help, nothing. A few moments later a white girl walks in to a cheery welcome. The associate continues sitting behind the desk, not acknowledging me, until I ask about starting a fitting room. She curtly says for me to go ahead and start one for myself and turns back to her screen. Not okay.

Yelp
Super cute and clean vintage shop. Clothes are in great condition and organized by color. Good find

Yelp
I've been coming here since moving to Portland in 2018, and they've always had a nicely curated selection. The prices have gone up over the years but are still reasonable compared to a lot of other vintage shops in Portland. Certain pieces are underpriced in my opinion. You can also often find something good on the 5 dollar rack when on a tight budget.

Yelp
Well curated, inviting and unique! Nick and his shop staff create a truly timeless Portland shopping experience. Aside from the sustainable aspect of vintage clothing they also help ya look cool and leave smelling like PaloSante

Yelp
I really like this shop. It has a good vintage selection, sweet Kilims and a curated selection of used books and jewelry. Quite affordable for the vintage scene in Portland.

Yelp
go to sellwood union or northwest union instead, all clothing here is extremely overpriced ($80 for old levis, $72 for corduroy pants, T shirts like $30 for random tees) Depop would be cheaper or the Portland Vintage Market for the same vintage clothes theres nothing special about these (jerzees crewneck $30) As bad pricing as house of vintage

Yelp
Well curated vintage pieces, priced well, and the employees give you space, what more could you want out of a vintage shop? They have great denim, although I couldn't find a pair that fit I wish they did, the wash and worn in condition was perfect. I ended up getting a linen button up shirt and billabong shorts, both priced very reasonably. You know you're getting good pieces when they're vintage and still in great condition! Will definitely come here again, thanks for making such a great shop!

Yelp
I was really glad to find this shop. I needed a "new" dress for an event and was dreading it bc I'm on a tight budget rn and I also still get uncomfortable shopping in person sometimes (doesn't really work buying vintage online though, it's so much better to be able to look at it in person and to be able to try it on). Someone recommended this place though - bought a few REALLY cute dresses & skirts that were more fairly priced than I'd thought they would be bc such good condition, and I was really comfortable with all the covid-19 precautions, enough space to look through things without having to squish up against strangers etc., owner wearing a mask and steaming clothes, hand sanitizer up front, just a really good shopping experience all around.

Yelp
This place was cute, good selection for trendy old stuff. It didn't have the thrifty elements. It felt a little too cool, definitely not vintage feeling. The counter guy was nice though, also the herbal cigarettes were a 10/10 buy.

Yelp
This place. From the moment you walk into this bright yet cozy, kilim-covered, palo santo scented haven, you know you're in a place of true style and intent. From the expertly selected vintage to the tasteful handmade jewelry to the jaw-droppingly-beautiful rugs to the formidable book section, this flawlessly curated shop is perfection. In the months since they've opened, I have collected several incredibly special pieces that will stay with me forever. The owner is interactive without ever being pushy and always has something interesting on the turntable. It has definitely become my go-to destination whether I need a cheap thrill, a luxurious treasure, or just to soak up the amazing atmosphere.

Yelp
I love this little shop! They have a great blend of products. Not just great clothes, but gorgeous rugs, cool old books, pottery, and jewelry. Such a gem!

Yelp
i found some perfect levi's 506 student jeans here on a casual stroll in for $16 or $26 i forget but either way amazing price for well fitted vintage levi's! gotta love that no sales tax. it was the first store i went to on my visit. there were some other vintage jeans like gap in my hard to find size but none of the coveted 501's. i like that it is very clean inside, not a lot of selection since it's a curated, small shop. there are some new accessories like jewelry and home goods like incense and candles, i think. just kind of typical of the stores like this. guy working keeps to himself but is friendly if you need help.

Yelp
Really amazing curated selection of vintage clothes for both men and women. Small store but racks were fully stocked with items. Stumbled upon this place while waiting for our table at Tin Shed a couple doors down. The staff is nice and there were a lot of pieces I tried on but was in a bit of a hurry so didn't really get a chance to decide on any purchases. Will definitely be back! They have a fitting room in the back also. Street parking and neighborhood parking all available. They also have a 50% off rack.

Yelp
Good curated selection of oldies but goodies. Got a pair of vintage Levi 517 that had been perfectly worn in and they were only 24 bucks. Very reasonable for vintage Levi's.

Yelp
This place has the BEST collection of men's and women's clothing, books and accessories. Also wonderful pottery and handmade jewelry. Something for everyone!

Yelp
The selection of the clothing was good but the cashier was so rude. This afternoon, I was in the store and tried on some clothings. Everything was fine until I forgot to give the clothing back from the fitting room. I went back to the fitting room and gave them back to her and apologized but I guess she was really annoyed with what happened. After that she was really PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE. I was really surprised because I apologized twice and sincerely. As I was at the cash register purchasing I noticed a stain on the scarf that I was purchasing and asked her do you think this will come out? She said "I think it's blood so no." My reaction was eww... I guess that offended her again and then she said "it's a vintage clothing shop so some of the items have stains". I've shopped at many vintage shops and that was the first time that someone confidently defined the reason for stains on the items even if it's blood. I was more off put by the "well, what do you expect" attitude. On my way out not even a thank you or bye, when it was just two customers including myself. I'm not asking to be treated like a princess but what was the attitude for?
