Here's a story about who the people at Zinc Bar genuinely are.
Last year, my girlfriend and I found the Zinc Bar on our final night in town during a weekend NY jazz club trip. We immediately fell in love with the romantic Art-Deco-era Paris jazz bar vibe and vowed to return next year.
This year, we came back, and I decided to propose to my girlfriend at Zinc Bar.
We came in on a Friday night to have a few after-show cocktails, and while there, I spoke to the doorman, Ansel, and told him I had a plan to come back tomorrow to propose to my girlfriend.
The next night, Saturday, we returned, and Ansel said, "Hello, Chris, welcome back! Your table is waiting!". He then walked us to one of the best booths in the corner. HE SAVED US A NICE SPOT! I was shocked and touched.
Our fantastic waitress from the night before, Mulan, greeted us with a huge smile, and we enjoyed a few drinks until I finally got up the nerve to pop the question. She said YES(!!), and the crowd cheered us.
Later, Mulan came over with two glasses of champagne, and we enjoyed (too) many celebratory drinks.
HERE'S THE KICKER: The Zinc Bar staff didn't know me, owed me nothing at all, yet they went OUT OF THEIR WAY to make the night magical for us. This says so much about who they are as a business: Good, kind, family people.
THANK YOU, EVERYONE AT ZINC BAR. Mulan, Ansel, and the sweet waitress that congratulated us after (but I missed her name), the owners of Zinc bar, for making this space. You guys are good, good people.
