Zion Cathedral of the Dormition of Tbilisi

Sioni Cathedral is one of the most peaceful and spiritual places in Tbilisi. The moment you enter, you feel a sense of calm. The architecture is beautiful and the interiors are full of history and meaning. It’s a living, active church, so you get to see locals praying and lighting candles, which adds to the experience. The area around the cathedral is also very nice to walk around, with old streets and the river close by. It’s a perfect stop if you want to explore Tbilisi’s culture and heritage. A must-visit for anyone interested in history, architecture, or simply a quiet, meaningful place in the city.

One of the most beautiful cathedrals in Georgia, in the heart of Old Town in Tbilisi. We visited at around 9 am on Monday and were fortunate to be able to witness the morning prayers. The singing was very beautiful. But the booth selling candles was not open at this time. It was the main Georgian Orthodox Cathedral until a few years ago. Entry id free. Note: carry a scarf as women as expected to cover their head.

I personally feel this is the most cathedral in Tblisi. Beautiful icons and paintings inside. The atmosphere was so calm and serene. Wrap around skirts and stoles are available for women. Entry is free

Very beautiful cathedral and one of the most known churches/cathedrals in Tbilisi. The cathedral was initially built in the 6th and 7th centuries. Since then, it has been destroyed by foreign invaders and reconstructed several times. The current structure is based on a 13th-century version, with some modifications made between the 17th and 19th centuries. Its name is due to a medieval Georgian tradition of naming churches after specific places in the Holy Land. It served as the main Georgian Orthodox Cathedral and the seat of the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia until the Holy Trinity Cathedral was consecrated in 2004.

Most unique experience so far on our few day visit. We were just walking by and saw a car stuck on the stairs of the church!!! Long story short we tried to help them - but no common language or common sense, we finally gave up and eventuallly tow truck was coming. Anyway, this place i will never forget, thank you

Stunning. One of the most beautiful churches across all Georgia. Some of it's parts are not illuminated well, which is a pity, because they seem to be the best paitings in the whole building.

It's hard not to give 5 stars as Tbilisi is so full of beautiful buildings, but it deserves 5 stars.
