We just got back from an incredible four days at Ziwa Bush Camp in Zimbabwe, and honestly, it's the kind of trip that sticks with you. Traveling with our two kids (ages 8 and 11) and my wife, I was a bit nervous about roughing it in the bush, but this place nailed the perfect mix of adventure and comfort without feeling stuffy.
The camp itself is tucked away on a private stretch of the Zambezi, with just six canvas tents that sway gently in the breeze nothing fancy, but the views of the river and those massive acacias at dawn? Pure magic. Our guide, Tendai, was a total legend; he spotted a leopard on our first game drive and had the kids giggling over elephant facts like they were inside jokes. One evening, we watched a pod of hippos grunting away from the deck, s'mores in hand, while the fire crackled. The food was surprisingly spot-on too, think fresh bush breakfasts with eggs from who-knows-where and dinners under the stars that had us all forgetting our city diets.
The little things made it special: no Wi-Fi meant actual family chats around the campfire, and the kids still rave about tubing down the river (life jackets mandatory, phew). Sure, the tent bathrooms took some getting used to for the squeamish, but hey, waking up to birdsong beats an alarm clock any day. If you're craving that raw, unfiltered Africa with your crew, Ziwa's your spot. Can't wait to go back, already plotting it. 5/5 from this happy herd.
