How to Plan a Trip to Belgrade, Serbia

"A kafana built in 1823 and known as the oldest in the city, serving as both beloved tourist attraction and local hangout. The rustic interior—complete with red checkered tablecloths—and open gardens piled high with platters of meat, salad, and fresh cheese evoke a time-traveling, homey experience, often accompanied by a roving band playing nostalgic Serbian tunes on request." - Sophie Dodd Sophie Dodd Sophie Dodd is a travel, wine and lifestyle writer.  Travel + Leisure Editorial Guidelines

Excellent service, although they don’t know how to pour beer in the Balkans. Too much head, so glass not full! Food was very tasty, good portions & reasonably priced …. beef goulash & sarmer. Great location & story!

Service is below 0. You won't get a chance to look at the menu and If you still try to order something you only get an aggressive NO! You wonder whether this old man understand that he s completely killing the reputation of one of the oldest restaurants of the city. Cheese was still reasonable yet no explanation at all, the minced meat steak with chicken breast was so so so all I can say avoid this place by all means. There are plenty of way better places in the city in terms of food, location and professional service.

Very nice tavern restaurant, with good food for good value. This place was mentioned during my walking tour, as it has a quite interesting name, in the past it used to be named “close to church” due to its location, but based on complaints from the church, they put a temporary name as “question mark “, but they never changed it again. I had a nice salad and the famous Karađorđeva šnicla here. Both really good. Be aware that service is not included, you should leave a tip in cash to the waiter. Normal bill can be paid by card.

Had lunch here today. The location is amazing. The service was okay. The food was terrible. The Serbian salad was fine (hard to mess up tomatoes and cucumbers), but the Pljeskavica was easily the worst I've had in Belgrade (including ones from cheap roadside stands). Tough as nails and so salty that I couldn't eat more than a few bites. Go here if you want to sit and watch the cathedral across the street, but do yourself a favor - don't order the food.

The staff were really rude and unwelcoming. Over 35° we asked for some ice with our drinks, they literally put 1 ice cube within a hot drink. Lemonade was and terrible. How can you mess a lemonade! We were ready to order food and replied "after" and came back after a while. For the quality of the food, drinks and service it was way over priced, and not worth the hype. The place is nice and in a great location, but the rest really spoiled the experience

Food was okay, good prices and good portions. The staff was REALLY rude and doesn't accommodate tourists. At some point they were cussing us out, talking about us in Serbian, and then also expected a tip for their horrible service, which we obviously didn't give, because that's for good service only, which only angered them more. Awful place.

Be careful in this establishment. They steal! The bill was brought for 4660, they put 6000 in cash, asked for change, and the waiter came back with a complaint that they put 200 instead of the last 2000 (we put in 2000 bills*3=6000). We were already a little drunk, and even apologized, but when we returned to the hotel and started counting the cash, we understood the whole picture. Theft, fraud and deception! Especially the male waiter in the garden! If you pay in cash, make sure that they count in front of you! In general, I do not recommend it!

kitchen stop at 8:36 apparently and without a reason. The time says they close at 10 PM. As soon as we arrive, at 8:36 PM, we ask for a table for two and the waiter rudely tells us that the kitchen is closed without giving us any further explanation. So I ask the second waiter, who annoyedly replies that they are closed and leaves without explaining why or how. I returned to Belgrade after 10 years and had wonderful memories of the place. Given the curse of the staff, I have no desire to set foot there again. My personal addice. you have to change job Pure decadence. far from the glories of the past
