"Right outside the town of Teuchitlán, Jalisco—about an hour west of Guadalajara—is one of western Mexico’s most impressive archeological sites. Discovered in 1969, Los Guachimontones includes a series of unusual conical pyramid structures, built around 2,000 years ago by the relatively unknown Teuchitlán people. The largest pyramid is nearly 60 feet high, with 52 steps to the top. You can visit this UNESCO World Heritage Site for free but the on-site museum charges a small fee."

Beautiful site, well maintained. Be aware it is a long steep walk up the hill to the site. Worth it, but bring a water bottle. Hand Craft vendor offerings were a disappointment, but the ancient site was beautiful and the museum was great.

Nice change of pace from other Guadalajara attractions. Worth the trip. Don't count on buying food in Teuchitlan. To get there from Guadalajara, it is best to take a Taxi or DiDi to the Guachimontones Museum. It should cost 500 MXP from Plaza Minerva (45 min) or less from Zapopan bus terminal (30 min). It is also possible to take an ATE bus from the Old Central bus terminal (90 min ?) and then a taxi from there to the museum. To get back, walk into town from the museum (20-30 mins) and take the ATE bus from the Teuchitlan bus terminal to the Zapopan bus terminal (60 min, but it doesn't stop exactly at the bus terminal) or Old Central bus terminal (120 min in late afternoon traffic).

What an amazing place. I was not aware of round pyramids until now! Get a guide and plan on 3 hours. PLUS, as seniors, we did not pay admission. Highly recommend.

This site was amazing. Get a guide who knows the area to take you on a tour. You have to arrange this ahead of time but if you ask enough people you'll be able to find someone. Our guide worked in excavation at the site for 20+ years so he knew what made it special and he shared culturally significant information. The museum was good but we definitely got to see the inside works by having a guide. Tip: if you're not in decent shape, or if you're traveling with young children or older adults, ask at the museum about getting a ride to the site. It's not a long walk but it's very steep, there's no shade, and nowhere to sit down.

Arrived Saturday at 4pm and it was plenty of time to explore. $30MX per adult. There are very clean bathroom facilities by the parking and an air conditioned museum that presents a 15 minute documentary. Highly recommend to go in the museum before walking to the pyramids. There is a 15 minute incline walk up to the pyramids, be warned. Wear comfortable shoes and depending on the time of day it can get really hot. It was very interesting and it deserves a visit.

Precolonnial unique round pyramids! A short but steep hike up - a ride is an option, but it was totally manageable. We hired a guide, and he was worth every peso. After we walked, we went into the museum near the parking lot. They played a short documentary for us in English - they had just run in Spanish immediately before. I found this place super interesting and worth the drive from Aijijic.

Zona arqueologica Teuchitlan or Guachimontones is a beautiful archeological place. When I went there were not many tourists and we had the hole place almost to ourselves. It was very peaceful. We arrived on bus from Guadalajara and ate at a small restaurant near the bus station. Then we walked up a hill to go to the archeological site. You can also go up in a vehicle. It is quite an up hill walk, and we got tired, but it was worth it. I left some videos of the archeological site. There were some very nice views out on the horizon. They also have a small museum at the archeological site. They also have a sort of nature trail that you can walk through, which was nice. Be sure to take sunblock if it is a sunny day and a sun hat.

First, we visited the museum then asked for an English speaking tour guide to lead us through the area. Jonathan showed us the archaeological site and gave detailed descriptions of life in the area. We enjoyed visiting this unique and special place.
