The historic central street of Funchal is bustling with restaurants. It’s a great place for dinner, wine, or an evening snack. However, most eateries close by 10–11 pm, which might feel early for a city centre. So plan your last orders in advance. For authentic local cuisine, consider going slightly outside the center. The central area is perfect for strolling, snacks, and a glass of wine.

Great experience walking in and out. Lively crowd some live music and people sitting and eating in the street. Walk past painted doors and wall graffiti.

A very historical area of old town, with a great story of restoration efforts through artwork. Many shops and restaurants are located here and their tables are located outside in the midst of all the foot traffic. The walkway is small, quite crowded and can be a challenge to get through waiters, walkers, eaters, cars, (yes, cars) but all the aromas from the restaurants make it so worth it. A must do if you're in Funchal.

Cute little shops and a few great restaurants. Also nice to see all the painted doors

A wonderful place to wander, stopping for coffee and pastry. One of the most pleasant afternoons of my trip

A beautiful part of the city with streets full of street art. We took the Bolt from the Cristo Rei back to the Funchal (electric car around 10€) and we went through the area. There are lot of graffiti and painted walls of the local restaurants.

Must see where in Funchal. The old part of the city known from the colorful, painted doors. Plenty of cafes and restaurants, sometimes people who are inviting you inside might be a bit annoying, but this is touristic zone, so they are simply doing their job. You can also find less touristic places dedicated for local people - it's a great experience to go there.

The Zona Velha (Old Town) of Funchal is the historic and oldest part of the city. It's renowned for its narrow streets, colorful buildings, and charming ambiance. Many tourists visit this area to explore its charming alleys, local shops, traditional restaurants, and bars. It's a delightful place for strolling around and soaking up the unique atmosphere of the region. Nice place with lots of small traditional pubs and restaurant, You can drink traditional poncha at good prices and see a lot of painting on the walls and doors in a different style.
