"Get Wild at the Antwerp Zoo and Plankendael Animal Park With its super-convenient location, right beside Antwerp's central train station, there's no excuse not to visit the Antwerp Zoo. The zoo is very well maintained despite its age (circa 1853) and city-centre location. The animal habitats are constantly being updated and many are interactive and unusual, such as the Nocturama, an exhibit of nocturnal animals, and a cage-less bird exhibit. The Antwerp Zoo has all of the usual favourites: Big cats, monkeys, penguins, even a herd of okapis. The Zoo also maintains the Plankendael Animal Park, located outside the city, in Mechelen. Here you can find a personable herd of elephants including the playful baby in the photo above."

Beautiful zoo within the city centre of Antwerpen. Few of the zoo buildings have beautiful historic architecture which makes the zoo unique. Lots of healthy and well taken care of animals. They have the typical big four of a safari. They have different theme on each location and a well thought out sequence of path to follow. The butterfly sanctuary is one the most beautiful I've seen and within a historic building. Touring the zoo will take at 2 to 4 hours. Check for the zoo schedule beforehand such as the lion feeding and scuba diving show in the aquarium. Perfect place to bring your family.

Absolutely wonderful zoo! I had a ton of fun, the animals are beautiful. I took over 500 photos, luckily I brought an extra battery for my phone! I’d suggest that you bring your own food, it’s a bit overpriced imo, but I’m not super familiar with Belgian prices, so maybe it’s okay.

Beautifully maintained zoo with happy animals who are the closest ive ever seen of any zoo in the world. Kids and adults will equally enjoy this place and it should not take more than 2-3 hrs to fully complete. It's right next to the must see train station and across the chocolate nation museum. Together it's a full day of fun!

Very nice, easy to get around and lots to see. Need a good 3 to 4 hours at least. Only issue for me was it being a no smoking park which I wasn't aware of before hand. Minus 1 star for that.

This always our favorite place to go. If you have kids then it's beter to have abonnement card. You don't have to stand in the line to buy ticket. This time is the best time to go to see beautiful butterfly 🦋 in the butterfly garden in the zoo. This place is really recommended to go with your family.

Don’t be fooled by the zoo’s size—it’s actually much bigger than it looks! There’s a lot to see, and you’ll easily spend at least three hours walking around. The enclosures are well-designed, and there’s a great variety of animals. Definitely worth a visit!

Antwerp Zoo – A Trip Back in Time Walking into Antwerp Zoo today felt like stepping into a cherished memory. My first visit here as a child left me in awe, and returning now brought all those feelings rushing back—the excitement, the wonder, the pure joy of seeing incredible animals up close. The zoo is immaculately clean, well-maintained, and home to all the animals you’d hope to see. From majestic big cats to playful primates, every enclosure is a reminder of the beauty of wildlife. The lush gardens and historic architecture only add to the magic, making it more than just a zoo—it’s an experience. Some places lose their charm over time, but Antwerp Zoo still holds that childhood magic. A must-visit for all ages!

Nice zoo! It takes about 2 hours to cover the whole zoo. The kids enjoyed it. One thing to note is that there's a lot of ongoing construction, which suggests they'll be adding more animals in the future.

Yelp
What a wonderful zoo! The exhibits are numbered, making for an easy walk through the zoo! The monkey house and the lions den are particular high lights for us. The reptile house is also a lot of fun, and really enjoy how different animals share a habitat together. Also love the various play areas they have for children around too. Highly recommended especially if you have children!

Yelp
A pretty standard (but a little dated) zoo. Has all the greatest hits. Grounds are well maintained and clean. Animals seem well cared for, but the exhibits are old school zoo style (focused more on visibility than animal well being.). Nothing incredibly memorable about experience, except maybe it's central location. Understanding zoos cost a lot to run, entry fees are on high side even compared to world class zoos (which this is not). Unless you are a huge zoo fan, probably can pass on this one.

Yelp
This zoo is beautiful. We got the annual membership last year and have visitors three times already, even though it's about an hour and a half way from us. There's a parking garage just a few blocks away and you can get your ticket validated at the zoo so that you pay less money. The zoo is right next to the Central Train Station, which is beautiful as well. You can take a train depending on your city for more convenience if you prefer not to drive.

Yelp
I don't know. Going and visiting a zoo in a foreign city, especially a city on the other side of the world, doesn't seem to be as fantastic as visiting a zoo somewhere in Australia. Maybe it has something to do with there being a lot more things to do in European cities, or rather that their zoos are designed more for the locals than they are for the tourists. Anyway, the Antwerp Zoo isn't all that bad, and they helpfully provide a route for you to follow so as to see all of the animals. The problem I had was that when it rained there wasn't much in the way of shelter. However, the zoo itself was reasonably large and had a pretty impressive collection of animals. One of the odd things though was seeing a kangaroo so far from home.

Yelp
This zoo prides its self on being one of the oldest in the entire world. Being so old means cool looking buildings and architecture, which they had plenty of. I came here in the later afternoon towards closing time during the week and it didn't seem that busy. At 26 Euros, I found the admission to be a bit pricey in my opinion, especially for such a small zoo. The entire park can easily be walked through in about an hour or two. They have plenty of exhibits with lots of different animals including marine animals and insects (they had an amazing indoor butterfly garden). The animals here seemed a bit off and lazy, maybe because it was a warm day for Antwerp at the time. The underwater exhibits were pretty cool, I loved their large tank of fish. Unfortunately I didn't get much time here because my train was leaving very soon, but the good news is that this place is literally right outside central station. This is a great place for animal lovers and kids but still a bit pricey.

Yelp
This is a great zoo, no wonder it has international recognition. For start it is quite large. The food is really good. There is a very large selection of animals to look at such as big cats, great apes, elephants, gifaffes, penguins, fish creatures.. The amount of animal diversity here is quote impressive and the zoo is also very well designed. I had lots of fun here, absolutely recommended.

Yelp
Supposedly this is the second oldest zoo in the world. I haven't done the research to verify this, but I could believe it (the buildings are pretty old). I went in March and it was pretty chilly so most of the animals were inside, not a pretty scene. Actually, quiet a depressing scene (hence the three stars). The cage the poor elephants were shoved into were way too small and the giraffes were suck in the same situation, but I guess that's what you get with a city zoo. Other than that, the rest of the exhibits were awesome. So many different types of owls and other birds, I loved it! The gorillas were the usual big, terrifyingly cute animal they are in every other zoo out there lol all in all this zoo is like any other zoo you've been too, it's just a lot older. But everything in this area is a lot older. Make sure you stop by the train station next door! That's a sight you must see!

Yelp
As a 19th-century zoo, now remodelled so as not to be jerks to animals, this is the classic, kids'-book kind of zoo I've never got to visit before. I was continually swarmed by children on a couple of school trips, but that only added to the experience. Not ideal for wanting to learn an enormous amount, but certainly great for seeing animals in spacious and apparently comfortable spaces. I spent 2.5 hours here alone and had a great time.

Yelp
The Zoo is located in the city center and is one of the largest and oldest Zoo's in the world. Above and beyond the exotic wildlife, the 19th century architecture is a stunning highlight as well.
