Zoo Leipzig

It is by far the best zoo in Germany and probably the best in a Europe. The design makes it ideal, not so huge to get youbtiered, not a small amount of species to get you disappointed, and not small places for the animals to make them more depressed. Just try to follow the map correctly if you need to catch the feeding time, sadly the seals art for example takes a lot of time so you can barely hear the speech of the Lion's keepers.

I had previously only visited one zoo (in Wrocław), and I have to admit that Wrocław has a very large number of animals and an excellent Afrykarium. However, the Leipzig Zoo left a stronger and more positive impression on me. It is designed in a completely different way. The enclosures are continuous, cohesive, and landscaped, without traditional cages. The whole space feels like one large environment rather than a collection of separate exhibits. Animals have the ability to hide, so they are not always visible and I saw this as a huge plus. It clearly signals that animal welfare and comfort are prioritized over tourist attractions, which I fully appreciate. As someone who is generally rather opposed to the idea of zoos, visiting the Leipzig Zoo was rather spontaneous. I was curious about the rain forest. But Leipzig turned out to be the place where I felt this is how a zoo could actually be. The animals do not feel like exhibits, and the whole experience is calm, thoughtful, and coherent. Amazing place to spend your free time, especially if you have a yearly ticket like locals do.

Its simply one of the best zoo in the world. I haven't seen anything like it. The tropical forest area, the boat rides, the tunnel with screens describing earth's history (including dinasours) is breath-taking.

ZOO Leipzig is honestly one of the best zoos we’ve ever visited—if not *the* best, at least in Central Europe. What I loved most is how clearly it’s divided into themed sections like Asia, Africa, Kilimanjaro and more. It gives the whole place a great structure and makes walking through it feel like a real journey. A big highlight is the huge “rainforest” area, where you can even take a small paid boat ride through the river—such a cool and unusual experience. Keep your eyes open here, because you can spot a sloth freely moving around, often hanging from the poles near the roof. 🦥 They also have a koala and the impressive Pongoland, a massive indoor/outdoor complex for orangutans, chimpanzees and gorillas. Truly amazing to see. 🦍🐊🐨 Absolutely recommended for everyone—you can easily spend a full day here. And don’t worry if the weather turns bad; the zoo has a lot of indoor areas, so it’s great even on rainy days.

Beautiful zoo with a rich variety of animals and habitats! Especially Gondwanaland was amazing giving you the feeling of actually being in the jungle!( don’t forget to get on the little boat trip, super cheap and worth the experience). Love, Greece!!!🇬🇷❤️

Best zoo in Germany especially with huge greenhouse of tropical forest and self moving boats along river with warm climate. Highly recommended for both adults and children alike

Beautiful, large zoo - even in the winter! The Gondwanaland exhibit was a true highlight and a welcome break from the cold. The whole family had a great time!

I thought it is not a best time to get there on winter, but the good idea is they have the tropical forest for saving you from the cold! A lot of collections with very proper placement.

The Leipzig Zoo is a must see....This Place is amazing, the habitat for the Animals is lesser cage like, is more like they're natural habitat and you feel like crossing countries within the Zoo. For an example Gondwana Land, where you can enjoy a Bootride trough Monkey Land or enjoy the food in that beautiful Restaurant which is a self help service, but all the foods are fresh and prepared in front of you.

I had several hours to kill on my last day in Leipzig and thought the Zoo might be a good option. I'm glad I visited the Leipzig zoo. For the visitor, it is almost a must-see option in Leipzig. First of all, the location is excellent, within easy walking distance of the main train station and the central city. The price was very good -- I paid 18.50 Euros for my day pass. The zoo itself is very well laid out with a guided path that takes you through the entire park. The interior Gondwanaland section is outstanding. This is an enclosed section of the zoo with temperature and humidity maintained as in the tropics to support animals from that habitat. Any type of animal you would like to see could be found here, though I don't remember seeing any snake exhibits. The grounds are maintained beautifully and there are plenty of food and drink places scattered about as well as play areas for children. Overall, this is a very well maintained, large and beautiful zoo, well worth the visit. I spent a good 3 hours to walk through all the different exhibits.
