Go Off the Beaten Path in Bulgaria — and Find Historic Cities, Stunning Landscapes, and a Mix of Cultures
"A rambling Relais & Châteaux property in southwestern Bulgaria near the Greek border, set across more than 100 acres of grapevines and operating its own wine label. The estate feels bucolic and sensory — roses perfume the air, orchards yield sour cherries and apricots, herbs line a creek, there are beehives, livestock and a fishing lake — and guests are encouraged to pick fruit and flowers to evoke a traditional rural childhood. Rooms and grounds are meant to surprise visitors (many arriving at night) and the team, led by general manager Yavor Kirov, arranges hikes into nearby Pirin Mountains and emphasizes harmony with the surrounding nature; the property also offers spa, vineyard and farm experiences." - Sarah Souli

Zornitza Family Estate (Zornitsa, Blagoevgrad) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels
"There’s always something special about driving up a tree-lined road to a countryside retreat, and Zornitza Famiy Estate is no exception. The family-run hotel sits surrounded by vineyards and mountains, and between beaches and ski slopes, making for an idyllic country escape all year round. Accommodation is split across the boutique 16-room hotel and the six private villas, all built in the style of a contemporary Tuscan home with stone walls, exposed beams, and layers of tactile natural materials for a cozy finish. Restaurant aEstivum is rooted in the local terroir, including the land surrounding the hotel, which is home to Zornitza’s own eco-farm and winery. And as the remote location is the perfect setting to switch off, the spa offers a complete wellbeing experience with its indoor pool, fitness room, sauna, steam room and more, plus a mix of treatments including facials by cult French beauty brand Biologique Recherche and body treatments using local plants, honey and volcanic mud." - Tablet Hotels
Zornitza is truly the only luxury hotel in Bulgaria that I would confidently describe as a genuine five-star experience. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed in a way that immediately set the tone for the entire stay. Every detail, from the atmosphere to the service, was handled with care and consistency right through to check-out.||The staff deserves special mention. They were professional, attentive and operating at a level you would expect from the world’s top luxury hotels. Nothing felt forced or overdone, instead, everything was seamless, warm and impeccably executed.||It’s rare to find a place that delivers excellence so effortlessly, and Zornitza does exactly that. I’m already counting the days until I return at the end of the month.

A wonderful hotel nestled in rolling vineyards with impeccable and friendly service. The facilities are wonderful - great food, a huge gym, tennis courts, indoor and outdoor pools and even a functioning farm! We had a fantastic stay here

We were fascinated by the spacious room and the delicate, unostentatious atmosphere. The courtyard is huge and feels like Tuscany, with lakes, a private farm, vegetable garden, and tennis courts. The view from our room was unforgettable — vineyards rolling over the hills. The complex is large enough that you rarely come across other guests, which makes it feel very private. The food is made mostly from their own products and is of excellent quality.

We booked a romantic package for our anniversary and were pleasantly surprised to see it surpassed our expectations even though they were quite high considering the price point. The warm welcome, the vastness and quiet peacefulness of the estate, the knowledgeable and experienced staff everywhere (including the winery and the spa, which I strongly recommend visiting). It can do with more people working there (some amenities were at times left unattended) and a richer menu (we were disappointed to find out upon our arrival that the aEstivum restaurant was closed and only had the limited options available at Bistro 55). Overall a breathtaking hospitality experience, a rare find for Bulgaria.
