This is an outstanding place to stay. They were so friendly and accomodating. Each room has a different theme and they are done so well. Such a great treat from staying in cookie-cutter motels/hotels. We felt right at home. There were 16 of us and it was the perfect place for a family reunion.

The shower was missing the inner, waterproof curtain and the room, in all, was a little outdated. Very nitpicky though. Other than that, I absolutely loved it and loved the experience. What a unique pleasure and I would, 100%, recommend it to anybody visiting the Amanas or eastern Iowa in general. We only stayed one night but it was enough to make a lasting impression. Thanks, Zuber's Homestead <3

Stayed here with family for my wedding. Staff was so accommodating and kind. Bonnie and Jo were easy to work with, and the hotel was just adorable. Would highly recommend!

We stayed 4 nights while visiting the Amana Colonies. The owners were so nice and the room was clean. The daily breakfast was great. It was so nice and quiet I our room. We couldn’t hear any of the other guests. We enjoyed our visit so much we’re going back in a couple months.

My husband and I enjoyed a brief getaway to celebrate our wedding anniversary, we stayed in room 4. We appreciated Jo’s hospitality, upon arrival she showed us around and told us about the area. We enjoyed the afternoon sweet before we continued exploring the area. Breakfast was great too.

The owner was very nice and helpful. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch the evening we were there. It was peaceful and quiet with a nice view of farmland around it. The room was wonderful and the bed very comfortable. Each room has a different theme which we thought was really nice. We stayed in a baseball themed room which was just right for us. The breakfast that was served the following morning was absolutely delicious. Would definitely stay here again if we are in the area.

Four of us spent a night at Zuber's while on an overnight motorcycle excursion to the Iowa City area. The "Old Gold Hawkeye" room (U of Iowa) is pleasant and airy with a comfortable bed and plenty of fresh pillows and linens. Innkeeper Bonnie is a gem.

We found this hotel (Bed & Breakfast) when planning a trip to the Amanas. The price was lower than the hotels that were available and it offered a better experience. We loved the overall ambience of the place. The room was really nice. The bed was comfortable and the breakfast was great. We really enjoyed our stay and would happily stay again.

Yelp
My husband and I took my parents on a road trip to the Amana Colonies and we stayed two nights in Zuber's Homestead Hotel. My parents stayed in room #3, The Whitetail, and it was perfect for my parents because they did not have to walk up any stairs and it was close to the door. The room was very large and my dad enjoyed the comfortable recliner because it reminded him of his at home. My husband and I stayed in room #8, The Walnut Grove, which was also a lovely room. It was nicely decorated and very large and has a great soaking tub. We all agreed that the hotel and rooms were nicely decorated and comfortable. The breakfast each morning was good and my parents enjoyed the coffee being available early in the morning. The location is only a few miles away from the Amana Colonies and in a nice neighborhood. We all enjoyed our stay and would stay there again, should we return to the area.

Yelp
I was more than disappointed; I was shocked. Bill Zuber's restaurant had been a staple for our family from it's earliest days until closing, so I expected the same excellence from the hotel. Before we went, I booked a really pricey room, expecting it to be a one-of-a-kind stay. It was a one-of-a-kind stay and a once-in-a-lifetime experience because it was the worst on my trip and I'll never go there again. In all the reservations made, theirs was the only non-refundable one, and I think I know why--most people would get there and turn around and leave. I went in early in the afternoon to inquire as to check-in time and where they recommended for dinner. The woman, without any warmth at all, started to answer my questions, but then turned away to answer her cell phone. When I finally checked into the room (The Red Carpet Room), the first thing I noticed walking in was a smell of dampness--more than just a drying shower--something like previously damp carpet. The room was beautiful to behold, and the bed was comfy. They said it was their most popular room. I can see why--it is beautiful when you see it online which is what compels you to book it. Breakfast was okay, if you don't mind casserole-type dishes. The front desk person, and the kitchen/dining room helper were both very friendly, but unfortunately, those first impressions put me off of everything.

Yelp
My sister and I stayed here one night after flying into the local airport after a very long flight. It was our third time to stay at Zuber's. The folks at the front desk were cheerful and saw us to our room right away. The room wasn't bad, but maybe my cleanliness standards are a bit high because I thought the room could use a good cleaning. The sheets were spotless, but the baseboards and rug..not so much. The mat in the bathtub gave me the heebie-jeebies. We also killed a number of ants in the room. The room we had consisted of two beds, a couch and loveseat, and a small TV. Breakfast was good. There was some sort of Mexican style egg casserole that we both found quite tasty. I did think the room was a bit over-priced, but I knew what it cost when I made the reservation, so can't really complain. Would I stay a fourth time? Probably not. For those who haven't yet stayed here, be warned that it's not close to anything. Want food? You'll have to drive somewhere. You're also going to be a good ten miles (or more) off the interstate. Also, the folks who run the place leave for the evening/night so if you have a problem you'll have to call them. Please note I left this review somewhere else and got a reply from the owner wondering why I was concerned about their location now, since I'm a repeat customer. If you take the time to actually read the review I clearly state "For those who haven't yet stayed here"! Just wanted to let folks know about their location BEFORE you stay. They also claimed one of the owners sat and chatted with us during breakfast, which is not true.

Yelp
We have visited the Amana colonies each of the last 3 years as my wife runs in the annual half marathon race and we have family living nearby in Iowa City. This year we decided to stay at Zubers and we were so glad that we did. The cost is about the same as a typical hotel chain but the experience is so much better. This place feels more like a bed and breakfast instead of a hotel. The staff is very helpful and friendly. We stayed in the Oak room which was large, stately, beautifully decorated, and clean. The room has a sitting area with a leather sofa and chair that was great for visiting with our Iowa family members. Our stay included a wonderful homemade breakfast in a charming, rustic dining room. Our daughter has celiacs and can't eat gluten. The kitchen staff volunteered to prepare a special breakfast dish just for her. One afternoon we snacked on homemade cherry strudel that was still warm from the oven. It was little things like this that made this a unique and memorable experience.

Yelp
We stayed in the Trumpeter Swan room while spending a weekend in the Amana colonies and love Zuber's Homestead. We didn't know what to expect and were immediately charmed and fell in love with Zuber's. It would be a perfect place for family reunions and it kind of feels like staying at a grandparent's big, old comfortable home with nice common areas for visiting (a number of picnic tables under trees in the backyard with miles of scenic farm scenes, the wagon wheel room has a piano, comfy sofas, tables and chairs and is very comfortable for family visiting, wide inviting hallways with chairs for visiting. Our Trumpeter Swan room has a private bathroom w/single whirlpool tub and the decor made me feel like I was staying in an old family farm home, not a sterile chain hotel. There is no coffee maker in the room, but there is plenty of coffee available in the inviting lobby and wagon wheel room. Breakfast included a ham & egg casserole, poppy seed bread and other bread for toast and jam, and fresh fruit. Our room had a mini fridge. What a charming delight - would definitely stay again!
