On the Grid : Zula Bistro

"A spacious tapas and wine bar right by eight-acre Washington Park, Zula Bistro is double the size of many Over-the-Rhine eateries, making it (a little) easier to snag a table. That doesn’t mean sacrificing on quality though, and chef-owner Tsvika “Vik” Silberberg makes sure of that. Cold plates, hot plates or crudo, there’s something for everyone here, including nine riffs on steamed mussels." - Empower

Delicious food, great atmosphere and friendly staff. Our favourite dishes were the beef tartare and the aubergine with goats cheese sauce. The poppy seed strudel with coffee sauce was an unusual and tasty treat. The only negative was the purple potato puree with the chicken - I think they forgot to season it because it was very bland! The rest of the dish was still delicious.

My favourite dish is lamb kebab! Beef Tartar was great too. Everything is delicious, service was fast, we received our food in less than 20 minutes, wine choices are great, so far it’s my favourite place in Lisbon.

If I could, I'd rate this place 6 stars😅 Awesome food, great service, everything was perfect. Chicken, salmon wellington and the hulumi with pear are amazing. Pie with poppyseed was the best. The service was great too, the staff was nice and helpful.

We had a delightful meal at Zula on our last night in Lisbon. The food was creative and well executed and the staff was passionate and knowledgable about the food. The chef's unique approach to Mediterranean cuisine made my mouth dance in excitement. We enjoyed the avocado hummus, and the lamb kabobs the most, but everything we ate was delicious! It goes to show that you do not have to pay so much $$$, to enjoy an exciting meal!

An absolute MUST go. Food, service, inside setting and wine all outstanding. Nice selection of Natural wine! Feels like a Lisbon is a hidden gem. Also nice touch of writing reservation name on a bottle on the table to see when we arrived. All the food was crazy - but the chicken dish was next level alongside Knafeh dessert. Prices are really good and would 100 recommend you give it a try. Food recommendations all in the pictures below.

Impeccable food. Efficient and kind service. Highly recommended. Also recommend making a reservation ahead of time (easy thru their website), esp for busier days. Most importantly: they are pet friendly!

During our visit to the Near Eastern Bistrot in Lisbon, there were three of us, enjoying the outdoor seating. It's worth noting that this place is fairly new on the scene, and the staff proficiently communicated in English Now, the details: Drinks: We decided to kick things off with a glass of skin contact orange wine. A somewhat unfortunate start, as the waiter presented an almost empty bottle without checking the wine. It appeared murky and emitted a sharp aroma, indicating that it might have gone bad. Upon tasting it, our suspicions were confirmed – it was undrinkable. Fortunately, the staff swiftly replaced it with a fresh and enjoyable bottle of the same wine Food: 1. The pita bread with rye was a letdown; it arrived cold when it should've been hot and fresh. The presentation scored high marks, but the taste left much to be desired – a 3 out of 5 2. Labneh with quinoa popcorn and lime zest, accompanied by olives, leaned on the sour side, which wasn't quite to my liking. Again, presentation-wise, it shone, but taste-wise, it landed at a 3 out of 5 3. Mohammara, featuring red bell peppers, pecans, vanilla, and basil, erred on the side of sweetness, despite the waiter recommending it when we were seeking something spicy. It looked exquisite, but taste-wise, it garnered a 3 out of 5 4. The falafel dish was with five generously sized balls, a bit too thick on the outside, complemented by a flavorful yogurt sauce and marinated cucumber slices. I didn’t hate this one, earning it a 4 out of 5 for taste and a 5 out of 5 for presentation 5. The aubergine schnitzel served with creamy quinoa, spinach, and cherry tomatoes was a delightful surprise, with impeccable flavor balance. It exceeded expectations, meriting a remarkable 6 out of 5 for taste and a solid 4 out of 5 for presentation 6. Beef tartare with garlic tahini sauce, zaatar, marinated cucumber, and dranniki (small potato pancakes) presented a mixed experience. The meat itself was good, but the combination of ingredients left something to be desired, earning it a 3 out of 5 for taste and a 2 out of 5 for presentation 7. Finally, the salmon tartare with Iraqi sauce amba, paired with quinoa popcorn, was a puzzle to the palate. The combination of salmon and the mix of sour, sweet, and spicy flavors didn't quite harmonize, leaving the fish virtually undetectable. Taste-wise, it settled at a 2 out of 5, and the presentation left something to be desired, scoring just a 1 out of 5 To our disappointment, when we returned the last dish, the waiter merely suggested something else and didn't remove it from the bill. A less-than-pleasant ending to an otherwise mixed dining experience ☹️ To sum it up, our visit to the Near Eastern Bistrot in Lisbon was a bit of a rollercoaster. While some dishes truly impressed with their flavors and presentation, others left us wanting more. We hope that as this new establishment finds its footing, it will refine its menu and service to consistently match its potential. Wishing them the best of luck on their culinary journey. 🍽️🌟🤞

Loved everything about this wonderful restaurant! The food, cocktails and service were phenomenal. Our group enjoyed several starters including the labneh, hummus, halloumi and watermelon skewers and mozarella followed by the roasted carrots, lamb kebab and chicken kebab! This is must try restaurant when in Lisbon!

Yelp
We spent most of our time in Portugal eating Portuguese food, but ZULA is a good reminder that this city has so many delicious things to offer. This little bistro has a tight menu full of inventive takes on Israeli cuisine. It's a small place, but very cute and the staff was super welcoming. They were also apologetic, because our table wasn't ready until half an hour or so after our reservation because of a lighting issue (we just headed to the nearby square for a couple drinks before, no big deal). The only service hiccup is that when we asked our waiter for recommendations, he talked up the grilled olives and the chicken, and then informed us they were out of both. Which was just kind of funny. Otherwise, they kept the food and the wine coming, and we had an excellent time. We ordered nearly the entire menu, and every dish stunning visually, and equally as tasty when we got down in there. It's hard to choose favorites, but the tuna crudo (layered with melon) was a perfect starter, the lamb kebabs were insanely flavorful, and I kept going back for the roasted eggplant with its addictive goat cheese sauce. The dips (muhammara FTW) are also not to be missed, and you should probably order extra fresh, fluffy pita to swipe through all the sauces. All in all, a wonderful meal.
