We spent most of our time in Portugal eating Portuguese food, but ZULA is a good reminder that this city has so many delicious things to offer.
This little bistro has a tight menu full of inventive takes on Israeli cuisine. It's a small place, but very cute and the staff was super welcoming. They were also apologetic, because our table wasn't ready until half an hour or so after our reservation because of a lighting issue (we just headed to the nearby square for a couple drinks before, no big deal). The only service hiccup is that when we asked our waiter for recommendations, he talked up the grilled olives and the chicken, and then informed us they were out of both. Which was just kind of funny.
Otherwise, they kept the food and the wine coming, and we had an excellent time.
We ordered nearly the entire menu, and every dish stunning visually, and equally as tasty when we got down in there. It's hard to choose favorites, but the tuna crudo (layered with melon) was a perfect starter, the lamb kebabs were insanely flavorful, and I kept going back for the roasted eggplant with its addictive goat cheese sauce. The dips (muhammara FTW) are also not to be missed, and you should probably order extra fresh, fluffy pita to swipe through all the sauces.
All in all, a wonderful meal.
