I wanted some authentic German food while in Erfurt, and it seemed like Zum Goldenen Schwan consistently came up on Internet searches for a great place to eat in Erfurt.
I asked to sit outside, and my server placed me at a small table with two other people. I don't mind sitting with others in a communal setting, but I thought it was strange and a bit rude to be sat at a table meant for four with two other people who were at a different stage of their meal than me.
For an appetizer I had the Hausgemachtes Würzfleisch in der Blätterteigpastete mit Sauce Hollandaise (Ragout fin in a pie crust with Hollandaise sauce, pictured) which flavorful and a good amount of food for an appetizer. For my main course, I had the Gebratene Flugentenkeule mit Apfelrotkohl und Thüringer Klößen (roast leg of duck with red cabbage and potato dumplings, pictured). The prices seemed reasonable for the amount of food I had. I've read other reviews about this restaurant which hinted that this was a touristy, crowded restaurant, but I didn't feel that way here. The service was decent for Germany, and the food was promptly brought to me.
