20 Best Bars in Hong Kong

"This swanky space combines the best of Hong Kong and Japan. It's perfect for any occasion, as evident by the white-collar set that frequents the space. The laser-like focus of Zuma's bartenders is as impressive as its list of 40 different sakes and its contemporary Japanese cuisine. Since it's in the heart of Hong Kong’s finance district, bankers and corporate cats tuck in here for after-work drinks and late-night DJ sets. The bar is also popular with groups and couples, thanks to its versatile seating arrangements." - Kate Springer

We used to book the Zuma brunch many years ago when we lived on HK island and I’m happy to say it is still one of my favorite brunches in Hong Kong. They work the way through a menu of dishes bringing them to the table and you can ask for another serving of any dishes you liked or as was my case - skip a couple due to allergies. Service was excellent. Everything we ate was amazing. I would not hesitate to recommend. It does get very busy so I’d recommend booking

The aperitivo hour at Zuma is nothing short of exceptional - a perfect blend of sophistication and indulgence. The bar comes alive with expertly crafted cocktails paired with exquisite selection of canapes and small bites. It delivered a memorable taste of modern luxury

Zuma Hong Kong is an exceptional dining experience that truly stands out in the vibrant culinary scene. From the moment you step inside, the sleek, modern decor and warm ambiance set the stage for an unforgettable meal. The menu features a fantastic array of contemporary Japanese cuisine, highlighted by their impressive sushi selection and robata grill offerings. The quality of the fish is top-notch, fresh, and artfully presented, making each dish a feast for the senses. The miso-marinated black cod is a standout, perfectly tender with a rich, savory flavor that keeps you coming back for more. The service at Zuma is impeccable. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the food and drink they serve, making recommendations that enhance the dining experience. The cocktail menu is also worth exploring, with innovative twists on classic drinks that pair perfectly with the dishes. Overall, Zuma offers a sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere, making it a fantastic choice for both special occasions and casual outings. With its vibrant energy, exquisite food, and outstanding service, it's no wonder that Zuma has earned a loyal following in Hong Kong. Highly recommended!

Google
A very decent restaurant serving Japanese fusion food. Staff are friendly and mainly speak English. We had the lunch package with sparkling tea which was really refreshing. Sure will come again.

Google
Stopped by for a weekday lunch and found the experience to be solid overall. The food is above average, though not exceptionally memorable, and the service is attentive without being particularly impressive. One standout was the *dessert platter* , which turned out to be huge—even the smaller option was generously portioned! I’d recommend this restaurant as a reliable choice for business lunches where quality and portion sizes matter.

I recently had an incredible dining experience at Zuma Hong Kong, where the food, ambiance, and service came together seamlessly. From the moment we arrived, Carlos, our host, made us feel welcomed with his warm smile and attentive nature. His extensive knowledge of the menu allowed him to offer perfect recommendations, and he took the time to ensure we felt comfortable throughout the meal. Thanks to Carlos's exceptional service. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking to enjoy great food and a vibrant atmosphere!

Google
Came back for their night brunch in Dec and last Friday. Dec was an excellent time cause the food, music, service and atmosphere were all great but the service and music were so so last Friday. I hope they can improve their service so that we still have a great place to come in HK. I only found out last Friday if you are late from the booking time you booked, they don’t care and they start to count your free flow time so we had less than 2 hours of free flow champagne which was a bit disappointing 🙏🏻💪🏼

Yelp
There are 2 kinds of stupidly expensive restaurants - one leaves you feeling as ripped off as after paying a term's worth of tuition for online classes during COVID. The other - that I didn't know existed before today - is Zuma. Zuma is a religious experience for your taste buds. The sequence of brunch courses is planned out with the same detail as a got damn Five Year Plan in the USSR. They come at you soft with clean dishes that don't load up your palate too much - sashimi, salad, the works. Then they drop Little Boy and Fat Man on you with a massive sashimi platter, main course, dessert - annihilating your belly in the best possible way. It's wasn't the most comfortable dining experience for me - the room feels a little too spacious whereas I prefer a cozier vibe, especially given Zuma draws inspiration from izakayas. But the service is fantastic and the food is an actual gift from God, so I'm just nitpicking. Come hit it!

Yelp
If you are ever in the Central area when visiting HK, Zuma is a great place to go for Sunday brunch. It took a bit of coordination to secure reservations, they do require a credit card hold and some advanced notice as spaces fill up quick. For the price, it's not bad considering it is AYCE but getting food can be a bit tricky at times. The line for certain food section can be daunting so it's not as relaxing as I would have liked but I did appreciate how certain dishes were brought directly to your table. Food was delicious, they offered a lovely assortment of sashimi, sushi, and items from their robata grill. They even had an oyster bar which was highly liked by my friends. At the end of the meal, a Zuma dessert platter filled with fruits, pastries, and ice cream was brought to the table for everyone's enjoyment. It's truly a great place to go to for a special occasion or birthday, the decors are inviting and offers a nice ambiance, whether it's a GNO or a date. While I had a great time, Zuma is not top on my list when visiting HK just because there are so many other great restaurants to try, especially when it comes to Japanese food. Not that the food was bad, but nothing stood out that made me want to immediately come back to. When traveling, you are already so limited to all the great food spots that city offers since your stomach can only eat so many meals in a day, but I would much rather enjoy dim sum or afternoon tea elsewhere before thinking about another full on ACYE meal....I hardly was able to eat anything else for the rest of the day It's definitely worth at least checking out once though!

Yelp
The experience starts the minute you walk into the restaurant. What a beautifully designed location, the natural rock bars, wood walls and amazing patio. The service is outstanding with 1 server to every three customers, not sure if that true, but it sure felt like it. The food was outstanding, fresh and good portions. Every dish had a flavor of their own. This is absolutely a go to restaurant. Lives up to their reputation.

Yelp
Modern Japanese place in Central HK. One of my go-to spots for Japanese meals and drinks. Been here for both brunch / dinner and drinks and all are good. For brunch, we often get the buffet which comes with a large buffet line with standard Japanese dishes such as sushi, yakitori, tempura, among others. You can also order an ala-carte main from your table (as part of the brunch buffet) which serves amazing grilled salmon, scallop, very well-cooked chicken and charred vegetable. Dessert is a fresh fruit platter and frozen yogurt which, while nothing particularly special, provides a nice refreshing finish to the meal. For dinner, I usually get many small plates to share with friends. Some favorites include the salmon, cod, beef, sweet potato, etc. The Japanese-style cocktails here are also good, which explains its popularity among professionals in the area. Nice modern vibe with both a seating / dining area and standing drinks area. Both indoors and outdoors.

Yelp
A Japanese fusion restaurant with nice ambiance and good food. I came here with a group of 12 and got the private room. We literally tried almost everything on the menu and these are the highlight Waygu beef Alaskan king crab tempura Japanese pumpkin tempura Scallops yakatori Miso butter fish Sashimi platter Dessert platter I would recommend coming here with a big group so you can try different things. Service is good overall.

Yelp
Recommended by the hotel concierge and located at the top of Landmark Central; Zuma offers fantastic views of HK island and the harbor coupled with some better than decent Japanese fusion. Somehow even amongst 8 friends, at least one who speaks Cantonese, I'm the designated menu sleuth (the one who looks through the menu for hidden gems and orders for the table). And my eyes were dancing over delicacies like pork and foie gras dumplings, black truffle fried rice, wagyu ribeye, fatty tuna (otoro) nigiri, blue lobster tempura, and a large wine selection (which someone else ordered because I'm a wine pleb, cider kinda gal). Sadly, most of these delicacies were just okay. Even the fatty tuna fell a bit flat. Despite some disappointments with the foodie delicacies, the tried and true dishes proved to be sublime. The ribeye, which was prepared perfectly medium rare, was well seasoned (something surprisingly difficult to find), juicy, and tender. The black truffle fried rice paired particularly well with the beef, but was unfortunately delivered first with the dumplings, whereas the beef was served 30-40 minutes later. The tempura prawns were also a treat with an impossibly delicate, but crispy exterior batter and perfectly tender cooked interior. These bright spots for the palette coupled with a fairly reasonable total of ~$120 per person (including wine) made it worth the trek.

Yelp
Zuma Dubai is the crème de la crème of Japanese-fusion - so I was interested, how does Zuma Hong Kong compare? The cool, stylish vibe, which featured modern furnishings, polished floorboards, and chilled out house beats in the background, was signature Zuma style. A lot more casual than the smart Dubai Zuma that celebrities frequent. As for our dishes: - I ordered a cocktail which was served in a real life flower! :) This is the most creative and unusual twist on a cocktail I have ever seen, so I was incredbly excited! The mix of mango and coconut rum was the perfect balance of light, sweet, and bitter, and a great complement to the light tapas style dishes. - Mixed sushi - fresh and fat, full of fillings. - Tartare of salmon and toro with oscietra caviar - the giant fish crackers were incredibly delicate and crispy. The subtle hint of fish in the crackers was delicious. The tartare was also fresh and delicate. - Chicken skewers with baby leek - probably the most average dish of the night. - Sweet corn with shisho butter - the flavours were balanced so delicately! - Miso marinated black cod wrapped in hoba leaf - this is Zuma's iconic dish. Fresh, melt-in-your-mouth cod with a flavour explosion and the charcoaled 'grilled' taste with each bite. Zuma Dubai's version was mindblowingly awesome and this version was great, but not as great as Dubai's cod.

Yelp
ok, this one, I expected to be much better than it was. I have fond memories of eating at zuma in london, where it is the hangout of celebrities and all manner of dressed up brits, the place is posh and the food delicious. step into zuma hong kong, and you realise that although this is still pretty glamorous, the food isn't really nearly as good. service is a little - shall we say, politely enthusiastic but aloof, and the place just feels a little cold to me. we had a couple of their lunch sets, and while the famed cod is still pretty delicious, I feel like the food isn't quite worth the price (and more importantly, not worth the limited stomach space I had for hong kong). skip this one, and try the other restaurants in the mandarin.

Yelp
I had a really tough time giving Zuma HK a rating for this visit because I have been here 4 or 5 times over the years and this was my first visit after a couple of years. The food here is and has been phenomenal. The attention to detail and quality of ingredients is very high. similarly, the cocktails are both inventive and mixed to proper strength. Unfortunately for this visit, for the first time, the service was not on par for the food that is being served and the prices that come along with it. A number of items on our order were mixed up, and drinks were forgotten. The servers were not rude in any way and were pleasant but were definitely inexperienced. Anyways - the location is great. This place is in the Landmark, one of many luxurious shopping locales in Central, occupying the 6th and 7th floors I believe. There is outdoor seating if you so desire, and it can get lively here....particularly for the Halloween party!!! On this particular visit, over lunch, I ordered the Horitae set lunch and supplemented with a number of items that were shared. As mentioned, the food was phenomenal and the items we ordered, though individually smaller portion sizes, were numerous. The cocktail menu and sake list were extensive,.....but I will save that for my next review.

Yelp
Let me start this review off by saying that I didn't eat here, just grabbed a drink so this will mostly be about the 1 cocktail that I had there. When I arrived at the elevator in the lobby, I wasn't sure to go to the 5th floor or the 6th floor so I went to the 5th floor first. I didn't see a receptionist so I turned right around and went back to the elevators to go to the 6th floor. After being greeted by the receptionist, he walked me down the stairs back to the 5th floor, haha. I had their seasonal passion fruit martini and it was delicious. It really enjoyed how tart it was. We sat outside which was a little hot but manageable. I appreciate that they have a patio to take advantage of the nice nights that occur every once in a while.

Yelp
After an extensive walk around Hong Kong, I dropped in here for lunch. On Saturdays, however, they do a brunch. It is all you can eat sushi from a brunch bar, plus other delicacies. In addition, they bring you a second course of five small plates. It's on the sixth floor of the mall, but has a delightful deck. The service was attentive without being obnoxious, and the food was simply outstanding. It wasn't cheap, but it was worth every penny.

Yelp
I was very disappointed especially since the one in ny and London are so good the the chicken satay and glazed fish appetizer were horrible such stench/smell that I couldn't eat it.the drinks were good so I was hoping the main wouldn't be as bad .the wagyu steak was really good but I'd stay away from the appetizers.wasn't crazy about the service everything took forever.

Yelp
On a warm (verging on hot) summer night, a meal on the outdoor terrace at Zuma can be a really nice experience. The roar of the fans may make conversation with those on the other end of the table a bit difficult, but the fans (and some cold beer) help make for a very pleasant evening. All the food we shared - sashimi, nigiri, tempura, beef, etc. - was fresh and tasty, especially the semi-fatty tuna. The portion sizes were larger than expected so it wasn't as overly expensive as I had feared. All in all, a very nice experience.

Yelp
We have been Zuma in London, New York and Las Vegas. So when we decided to come to Hong Kong, we were delighted to dine at Zuma with high hopes. Nothing was bad but nothing was fantastic. I would say everything is 90%of Zuma in London. Room to be improved. Service was great and very friendly staffs.

Yelp
Zuma is a contemporary Japanese restaurant, that brings (according to their website) a "sophisticated twist on the traditional Japanese izakaya style of informal dining" - yep, I'm not sure what that means either! It's a great venue, very well situated in the Landmark Building in Central, and super easy to find (even if you have been living under a rock). There is a lounge bar on the 6th floor, with a dining room and terrace on the 5th floor. In the dining room is a sushi bar and a robata grill bar. There are also two private dining rooms, great for big groups, but not hugely private (it's basically a glass partition, so you feel like you are in a conservatory). The food here is fab. It has a great variety, ranging from sushi and sashimi, through to robata grill dishes and main dishes of things like black cod and chicken. All the dishes are cooked superbly. However, for me, the best time to get a good selection of dishes is to come for the weekend brunch. The brunch is based on a huge buffet starter selection with everything from raw to deep fried (it really is a massive selection!), an a la carte main course, but not that some main courses require a cost upgrade, and a shared dessert platter per table of fresh fruits, ice creams and cakes. The cost on the Sunday is around HKD500 with free flow drinks. Best to go to the Saturday brunch as it is a lot quieter. The Sunday brunch can be a bit of a bun fight, with queues to the food tables stretching around the restaurant. Fortunately, my Dad taught me how to hold four dinner plates in one hand, and to power load at the buffet, so if you don't get in there quick, I'll be in front of you scarfing all the food.
google avatar

Eva L.

Yelp
We came here to farewell our friend with their awesome Sunday brunch. it's a buffet style at an upscale restaurant. The environment is nice and food is good but not as much selection if you compare to other buffets that are cheaper. it does cost over $700 if you have a drink or two. However, the quality is good. I like their tempura and skewers. Sashimi selection is not as much. i would come back for special occasion but not on a regular lunch day.

Yelp
I had a pretty good Sunday brunch experience here in Central. Food: for a buffet in Hong Kong, the brunch buffet selection was lacking. This was made up for by the unlimited drinks! I was totally inebriated. Perfect condition to be in - I was planning on a 15.5 hour flight afterwards. Service: not the best - servers were not responsive and actually rather inflexible. I was impressed by the woman at the counter who greeted us, though. Be sure to check your bag in at the counter because there's really no space at the table. Decor: the place had a great interior designer. Wish the tables weren't so close together, though. Buy hey - it's Hong Kong - most people are tiny. I hardly fit...

Frank L.

Yelp
Didn't record my phone cancellation and billed me HK$700... Called to dispute this and the receptionist was extremely rude. After she couldn't come up to an effective reply to how I have phone records of my outgoing call and how my party size (2) didn't qualify for the cancellation fee (parties of 6+) she said she would have their relationship manager get in touch. No response so far but imagine that person will be just as inept.
google avatar

Jacky L.

Yelp
Horrible business practice: Reservations were made in advance for a party of 3. I arrived and was promptly informed of dress code violation, then they asked me to wait for their manager. I suspected perhaps they were going to make an exception since I was in a summer dress but wore flip flops because of the summer heat.. surprisingly the manager was called to sternly tell me the same message and mention that they had already turned away one guest this morning. This puzzled me because I saw no purpose for asking someone to wait further for another rejection, especially since I was not throwing a fit and more than willing to leave. [Spoiler alert: I found out later that they planned to charge my friends credit card anyway... without telling me.] I left offended and annoyed. My smarter friends, however, knew official cancellation was required, so I had to go back up with them. Zuma was going to CHARGE us, even though we showed up, was denied entry, and refusing to allow us to cancel . After a good half hour, they then relented and allowed us entry on a ridiculous condition that I stay confined at the table and be served "SO I DON'T CAUSE DISCOMFORT TO OTHER GUESTS" Mind you, I watched other guests in shorts and haviana "sandals walk in (the upgraded haviana version flip flops, they just didn't allow my basic haviana flip flops, apparently those with the additional plastic strap at the back were considered sandals.) This is a buffet lunch, and did they expect me to pay full price to be humiliated like that? Just let us cancel and leave without being so rude. I'm all for honoring dress code violations but this kind of business practice and guest treatment is appalling. There are plenty of amazing restaurants with better quality of service and acceptable business practices.

Yelp
service : meh, the hostess at the very front was kind enough, but the two ladies working the bar level were a bit stand off ish. The entire restaurant/bar/lounge was empty except for one table of 3 men at a tall table and one business meeting in a corner. My friend and I asked to sit at one of the sofa seats and the server/waitress was reluctant and told us that when the restaurant would get busy we would have to leave....... excuse me? We are paying customers and the place is EMPTY! cocktails : we ordered two: both from their "signature cocktail " menu. They were both pretty bad. Not a balanced cocktail what so ever. upside: -comfy sofa chairs ( which we got to stay in through our visit...since the restaurant was empty for at least 2 hrs -_-). There is an outdoor seating area below the bar/lounge level: but all the construction around it kind of ruins the beautiful ambiance. -there is wifi :) -"good" location.
google avatar

Lily F.

Yelp
Got the premium tasting menu, quite high price for the food they serving. Large quantity but lack of creativity and imagination in the dish. I would recommend just go for a la carte instead of tasting menu. Because you can get a nice 8 course meal at a 2 star restaurant with that price. Which is better. Disappointed. But it is a nice location. And the environment is excellent, like the design of the open kitchen and the second floor bar. Just need to get better with the food.
google avatar

Stephenie H.

Yelp
Great food but terrible service. We asked if our wine was coming soon 3 times during our meal. We didn't get our wine until after our mains finished which were poorly timed as my dinner date finished his main before mine came out. We were going to order more if we liked the food, but they never gave us the opportunity to enjoy the place.
google avatar

Everett L.

Yelp
Omakase is the way to go and Zuma has two options. I was just very glad that it was a company dinner rather than my own dime, so I can't complain too much. The al fresco patio is quite captivating and enjoyable. The food was good, but focused more on the fusion than the Japanese. Zuma can exist anywhere in the world and be indistinct, they can do so much more with their proximity to unique cultural influences of he region.
google avatar

Yelp
An update to my review- after posting my review on social media, the manager finally got in touch with me and has addressed the situation. Although it had to come to bad reviews via social media, it was at least addressed.

Yelp
Best zuma ever The choclate raspberry dessert is one of the best i have ever tried.. Dessert chef is wow.. Very trendy , lively chic.. Must go to in hong kong..

Nick S.

Yelp
It's New year's Eve dinner and my wife pick Zuma. We actually flew from Bangkok to celebrate the New Year 2019 in HoThis is the best Japanese buffet I have eaten! The oysters served are very fresh and tasty. Kudos to the kitchen management, the oyster meat was beautifully extracted from the shell and placed back to the shell perfectly. Such details you cannot find in 5 or 6 star restaurant as well as fine dining restaurants. It convenience the dining guests in eating and appreciating the oysters. The marinated sliced fish was flavorful. The sushi was great with perfect equalization of fish and the sake rice. The fish texture was smooth and melt in your mouth together with the sweet and tender sake rice. The shrimp tempura was fried with perfection. Light crispy batter with tender prawn meat! The fish fin belly was another gem in the buffet. It's tender meat is velvety soft, fresh and sweet. In general, the buffet food was freshly cooked, with controlled quantity. Hence, the hot food is temperature hot which you cannot find in other high end restaurants buffet! Our main course Ribeye steaks sauce is too acidic and sour. We felt that the sauce did some unjustified elements to the beef. Environment was great with music volume building up the volume momentum as time passes by ! Service staff Gary provides warm, friendly and professional service. However the managers looked tense and with stern faces as compared to their friendly service staff. Maybe they just want their service staff to perform impeccable service to the guests! I will definitely come back to this restaurant again if I happen to visit Hong Kong again!

Yelp
After being seated in a quite hurried fashion, I was surprised that it took me almost 20 minutes to flag someone down to take my order. My order was brought to me everything at one time. After that, the wait staff vanished. If there is anything else I needed or wanted to change, I had to leave the dining area and walk to the bar and ask the bartenders to help me out up to and including my check. The food was good, not the greatest but good. The service, very very difficult for me to pay US$100 for a meal when the service it does not accompany it.

Yelp
Great taste testing sushi menu and I highly recommend the house sake....the view from from the upper bar area over looking the Hong Kong bay!!! Amazing...come here for the food, stay here for he view

Yelp
I think the sunday all you can eat brunch is worth going to. They only have 11am and 2pm seating, but it's very difficult to get booking, and you need to put down your credit card information. I think this place is overpriced, but I do like the food. So I would go only for all you can eat Sunday brunch. 3 star Bc it's over priced. Otherwise 4 stars.
