Zunfthaus zu Metzgern

Right in the center of Thun, can see the castle and around end of November there's a big Christmas tree nearby (right in front of the building) Went here for a family dinner, we were glad we came early (we already reserviert), but later at night it was full and very very loud, it was hard to hold a conversation. Food was good 👍🏻 Portion is big, prices are average. I had rösti because it's my fav Swiss dish, but it was a little bit too salty (maybe from the bacon). But all the other family members had a pleasant dinner! So it was just the rösti or my tongue.

This restaurant was a hidden gem in the heart of Thun and a highlight of our trip. The meals were prepared with ingredients of incredibly high quality making for a phenomenal experience. The service was out of this world as well, being some of the best in Switzerland. A special mention to Kreshnik, our waiter, who was patient and extremely kind.

Went here for a meal, while in Switzerland, and got some traditional swiss food. It was amazing.

Super central, I was not sure what to get. Switzerland is pricey enough. Went for a calzone and it was the best I have ever had. Enjoyed the food and wine.

The food was great, the waiters are very rude. Usually in Switzerland I have been treated well… I wouldn’t go again because of the treatment of the personnel, I can find great food with a good customer service in many other places The ratings are high maybe because a lot of people are rating the hotel only.

Switzerland is expensive, and finding a place to stay that had what we needed for a reasonable price was difficult. We booked the Zu Metzgern and weren't sure what to expect. I wasn't overly thrilled with a shared bathroom, but we had a lovely stay and I would recommend this hotel to those traveling to the Thun area. It is a good value. The property was clean - our room was a good size with lots of windows and an excellent view of the square, restaurant, and if you peaked around the corner, the castle. This could not be beat. The shared bathroom was clean and the owner was very friendly. The location was ideal for exploring Thun and not too far from anything. The only bad thing I can say about the property is that in our room, we had many windows overlooking the square and the curtains didn't keep out all of the light - so it wasn't the most restful sleep, but everything else was great! We ate at the restaurant - it was busy all the nights we were there. I enjoyed the risotto. My companion had a bratwurst and wasn't overly impressed, but there were several other dishes that passed by us that looked excellent.

Spent 2 days recently in Thun and had the pleasure of eating dinner one night in Zunfthaus zu Metzgern. Had just arrived from 3 days in Fribourg and wanted to eat some meat dishes after overdosing on cheese (Fondue, Raclette, Assorted Kaese & Brot) in the Suisse Romande. The Zunfthaus did not disappoint. Our server, Karin, and her co-server were excellent in describing the house specials. There were three of us and after a pre-dinner drink we settled on: House Specialty Cordon Bleu with Roesti, Lisa's Spezial RindHackfleish in pastry puff with vegetables and potatoes, and Bauerbratwurst with Onion Sauce with Pomme Frites. All were prepared satisfactorily and delivered in a timely manner. Excellent taste to all, good portions and we were more than satisfied. After the hearty meal we relaxed with a coffee and schnapps and my charming dinner companion, Mlle. Puma decided to order an exotic dessert - The Stripper's Pole, I think it was called. This concoction of layered ice cream was covered in high proof schnapps and ignited producing a mesmerizing light show on the table. A bit pricey and labor intensive (Karin didn't seem to overly enjoy the intricacies of preparation but she was a good sport). It certainly added some "zing" to the evening and it, along with the other schnapps consumed, made the walk back to the hotel more festive. Traveler's Tip: Great views from town square outside restaurant. Zunfthaus zu Metzgern, a comfortable, traditional establishment I would gladly visit again.

Unbeatable and quiet yet central location, really cute rooms. You fall asleep easily with the sound of the fountain on the nearby square when you leave your windows open. Don't worry about the shared bathrooms as they were always clean and smelled good. Highly recommended.
