"Traditional Specialties Along the Limmatquai At this 18th century guild house along the Limmatquai, tourists huddle under blankets around outdoor tables indulging on “fondue à discrétion” (all-you-can-eat fondue). Meanwhile, locals dine upstairs on traditional specialties like the meaty Zurich “Ratsherrentopf” (Councillor’s pot) of beef, veal, pork and roast bacon served with carrots, peas and rösti in an atmospheric setting of carved pillars, coats of arms and oil paintings. Our dinner here was perfect. We sat at a table with a view of the river and churches, though shaded from the sun. Service was very attentive. The food was delicious and not overpriced. We ordered the white wine soup with grapes, which was tasty and unique. We also had beef and macaroni, and chicken weinerschnitzel. Both were amazing. Make sure to get the potato and cucumber salad! I only wish we had room for dessert.

Google
Great location in front of in river so chill for outdoor tables. Staffs were friendly and attentive. The food tastes were fine(I expected more) and it’s a bit too salty. The vibe was great. Easy to find by google map. No reservation needed.

Google
We had an amazing experience. The food was excellent – especially the meat dishes, which were prepared with great care and quality. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming. Everything was perfect, and we’ll definitely come back again!

Google
Very unique experience. Visited mid March so it was cold. Open air fondue was so awesome, with thick blankets and candles and a bubbling pot of hot cheese. All you can eat served with potatoes, bread and small pickles. Service was friendly.

Google
Lovely and fancy restaurant. We had a table reserved on the first floor, and it was overlooking the river. The service was extraordinary, and everyone was very nice. Their beef steak is one of the best that I have ever tried. The meat was so tasty, juicy, and flavourful, and it melted in the mouth. It was my birthday and at the end of our meal they gifted me with a birthday dessert with a candle 🎂 I definitely recommend this restaurant. Wear something fancy ✨️

Google
Great meals, serviceman's atmosphere. Was seated when it was cold and cloudy and not very busy but as soon as the sun came out around 2pm it got very busy. Thankfully I'd already ordered and started eating by then. Had a salad and traditional Swiss Rosti which was delicious but lots of food so decided to take it home for breakfast tomorrow.

Highly recommend the hot chocolate with whipped cream! Although servers should smile a little bit more... lovely place to sit outside and enjoy a quick snack / coffee

Google
It’s an expensive tourist trap. “ all you can eat fondue “ is inaccurate. We only got a few gherkins and potatoes and couldn’t ask for more because Our waiter was nowhere to be found from the time he dropped the food until he came back with the check. So all we had was cheese covered bread . Then thanks to our waiter not coming back to take off the heat, the cheese burned in the bottom of the bowl so it wasn’t even edible. I wouldn’t go back and I wouldn’t recommend you eat here either.

Yelp
Oh, this was so romantic. I had dinner for one and the waiters took such great care of me. I sat under a blanket (which they provide) indulging in Glühwein and delightful and rich fondue, laced with brandy. I dreamily dipped my pieces of German bread, little boiled potatoes and vegies in hot gooey cheese, and filled my belly with all that warmness. The scenery was enchanting. A tram ran past the front of the terrace of the restaurant every 15 minutes or so, people heavily dressed against the cold, were bicycling by. The buildings were fairytales draped in their little Xmas lights, the river shimmered. What a beautiful memory ...

Yelp
Amazing experience. Outdoor seating with fur covered chairs, wool blanket for the lap and heated bags for hands. The waiter gave suggestions and we started with a warm cocktail followed by fondue and white wine. Plenty of food for both of us. Great experience.

Yelp
Recommended by Conciere at Park Hyatt- upscale place with excellent service and food! Service was attentive and top notch - shout out to Chleo and whole team for welcoming vibes! Their wasabi pea starter soup waas delish! Assorted bread rolls were good but were room temp- would be better served hot but still everything was tasty and especially the wine - so smooth

Yelp
I thought it was a good dinner place: reasonably priced with a nice atmosphere. Their upstairs restaurant is more "fancy" dining experience, and downstairs has a casual vibe. Menu has plenty of choices without being too overwhelming. The portions are huge! Service was decent enough :) Location is very central, easy to find. Drinks were delicious! Loved their gluhwein with amaretto.

Yelp
Liked this place! Came for late lunch. Great location. Was seated inside. Got the following: Olives, cheese and sausage for app: 3 stars! Very good - appealed to all of our people in our group Sausage with onions rosti: the onions were 5 stars as was the rosti. The sausage, while cooked well, was lacking in flavor. 3.5 total Bacon/egg/rosti: 4 stars. 5 stars if the egg had been runny but ours was fully cooked. Would still get again and make our egg preference known We prefer German sausages as side taste preference Would come back for the rosti!

Yelp
I am glad I tried fondue while in Zurich due to all the recommendations and hype behind it however I would not recommend this particular restaurant. The service was quite poor and food itself didn't have the taste you'd expect and was bland. It is nice that they have blankets outside for if you get cold. The view of the river is also nice however the tram will be passing every few minutes.

Yelp
This Restaurant has great ambience. Sitting outside is very delightful. Zürich geschnetzeltes was amazing. Super tasty. Highly recommend. FIVE Stars

Yelp
Location, location, location! On a nice day nothing beats having a beer and meal overlooking the scenic river and beautiful architecture. Plus lots of people watching on the busy sidewalk. Zürcher Geschnetzeltes mit knuspriger Butterrösti: So I had this same dish earlier in the week at Zeughauskeller, but here it was literally half the portion for a little more. Like they give you half a rösti instead of the full round; where's the other half??? This is what some call "shrinkflation". It was tasty though, with nicely seared cuts of veal in a luscious mushroom cream sauce. Guess you're paying for the views, not the portion, here.

Yelp
We dined in the 1st floor restaurant at a window table, lovely view and ambiance inside, despite very large private dinner in adjoining room. Food was excellent but at this point of eating out every meal for two weeks, my appetite was limited so we shared courses -- first the apple and celery salad, which was refreshing with crispy apples and a light dressing -- followed by lamb with rosemary potatoes and perfectly cooked al dente vegetables -- with a Swiss red wine. Always room for dessert and the apple fritters and berries mille feuille did not disappoint. Very happy to have found this resto as most places in Zurich are very touristy so it was great to find a spot where most of the people dining upstairs seemed to be residents.

Yelp
Our tour guide recommended us this traditional Swiss restaurant which is actually an active guild in the old city. It's Christmas Day and luckily for us this place was still open after 7pm. Many other places tend to close early or else they are off for the holidays. The set 3 course was 85 per person. We ordered from the menu instead. On the ground floor you have the option to sit outside and order the fondue. We went upstairs where you can be seated surrounded by the old architecture. They take your coats to put on the rack outside. We were seated in the corner window table. Idk maybe that's where they seat the Americans? Im just assuming from the other reviews lol. The view was great though over looking the river. Salmon wrapped in leaf 5/5 the leaf was boiled and editable. The red dots were very spicy - I loved that kick. We were recommended the red wine made in Zurich - paired well with the fish. Fish - perfectly crispy and soft. The rice was cooked well. The sauce was great. Plenty of steamed spinach. Portion size was big. The sprouts on top was seasoned and gave a nice crunch. According to our tour guide earlier in the day, Zurich is a water city - I just had to try a fish dish. And it was amazing. Veal - the mushroom gravy was very good. They were very generous with the gravy. The pasta soaked it up well. Veal was tough though. The yellow and green beans were very yummy. Chocolate cake was a lava cake. I loved the deep and rich chocolate flavor, not just sugar. The woman's bathroom is right out the door on the second floor. There's another mens and womens bathroom upstairs.

Yelp

Yelp
I gave 2 stars because the setting outside along the river is lovely, and inside is also very nice. However, I ordered a cheeseburger, and the meat was so foul, I could not eat it and had to sent it back. Hard to imagine bad meat in this part of Switzerland!

Yelp
This restaurant is in a great location right along the river. You get to do some great people watching and also get a view of the city on the other side of the river. The prices are quite reasonable (cheaper if you sit outside versus inside). The menus are available to download on their website. I recommend the poulet schnitzel (breaded chicken cutlets). They cost 24 CHF, which is cheap for Zurich and this part of town. They come with crisp and delicious french fries and a fantastic side salad of really fresh greens. I also tried the macaroni with beef & applesauce 24 CHF, which was less exciting.

Yelp
As a single diner, I understand getting less attention. However, dined on terrace, mainly ignored. Asked for one of the more expensive entrees, and was brought bread ends/crusts to start. My rosti was burnt in the bottom, and veal was very tough in my Geschnetzeltes. No one came by after serving to see, if I was happy or needed another glass of wine or anything. While Zurich is expensive, this was priced in line with others and yet food and service were not good. Overall, a disappointing meal for CHF 50.

Yelp
I stopped over at Zurich for one night. It was an early spring night. This restaurant is right along the river front and famous for the traditional Swiss dishes. I ordered the cream soup Weissweinsppe, which is a little bit like clamp chowder but more flavored in cheese and milk. The Zueri Filet mixed with kidney was quite interesting. The dish was prepared on the side table, serving with hash brown kind of potato. The local Pinot Noir went well with the meal. The atmosphere was relaxing with some Zurich senior citizens dining around me. The lead waitress was very helpful in explaining the Swiss diet. The chef treated me with the cheese wrapped cucumber topped with sweetened tomato. It's quite tasty. The second floor dining has some view of the clock tower across the canal. What a great way to spend a night before moving to Brussels.

Yelp
I ate at Zunfthaus zur Zimmerleute twice on this trip to Zurich. The weather was warm so quite nice in the late evening, so I grabbed a table outside; in the front of the restaurant where I would have a river view, but off the street itself. With a nice table it's a great place to relax, have a beer (or two) and a nice meal. The beer is always served at the proper temperature and the price is quite reasonable, as is the price for wine. In Switzerland both wine and beer are both priced below NYC standards....which makes them one of the few commodities that are. For dinner I had the chicken schnitzel which was exceptionally tender and nicely seasoned. It came with an order of fries...which were perfectly cooked and nicely salted...so I did in fact indulge :-) The waiter/waitress service was quite pleasant and the staff are multi-lingual for anyone who doesn't speak German. Overall, a great place for a nice reasonably priced evening meal. I'll be back when I'm next in Zurich!

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant right on the waterfront in Zurich, service and food were both exceptional. Waiters were extremely attentive to our needs, recommended several excellent bottles of wine. For our main course we had the Chateau Briand. It was one of the best steaks I have eat. Sliced and served table side with an excellent accompaniment of roasted vegetables and delectable fries cooked in either duck fat or beef tallow. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a fine dining experience in Zurich.

Yelp
Really charming place next to the river bank. On a crisp night you can enjoy people watching on a sheepskin covered seat while you eat a delicious feast.

Yelp
Overall lovely setting right on the water and good food. Had the veal with hash browns Swiss style which were amazing. Service could have been better. Desserts are a must there !! It was me and my brother and we split a salad, main dish , and a dessert and was around 70chf. I thought that was pretty good and if you have someone who is willing to split you can try more and save money if on a budget. We are doing that now at restaurants to try the good stuff but also save money. Cool place I suggest you go.

Yelp
This venue is in a lovely old building. The location is wonderful - it looks out over the river, and everything is particularly festive in December when there are Christmas lights everywhere. Tip: It's just a short walk from the city center, but in the winter be sure to bundle up because it's gets awfully cold! The restaurant is particularly lovely to visit at night. It's usually busy, with a diverse menu that has something to suit almost any taste. The wine list is also quite good. Prices are fairly high, but that's standard for most restaurants in Zurich.
google avatar

Yelp
The one food we absolutely wanted to eat while visiting Zurich was fondue. Even with it being 80 degrees outside we ordered fondue. The ambiance of the restaurant was nice and quiet. We sat looking out towards the water. The fondue was some of the best ever! The potatoes come in a little fabric bag and are the best addition to the fondue! As are the pickles, pears and bread! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for great fondue with the best view!

Yelp
I get a little confused with this place, because they post their "1st Floor" menu on their website, but apparently it's different (and more expensive) than their ground floor menu. Anyway, I wanted to take my mom to dinner at a nice (BUT AFFORDABLE) place on her last day in Switzerland. OH! And a semi-healthy one. We had shoved her full of the delicious Swiss food for the past two weeks, so she was ready for some light options. I laughed to myself silently as we walked along Limmatquai because I figured everywhere was going to be waaaay too steep. And then we walked along Zunfthaus and glanced at the menu, just for the heck of it. And ta daaaa! Meals in the 20s and 30s!? What's this you say!? Why! I think we shall take a seat. And there was a beautiful seat outside as well! I ordered the fried chicken crusted with cornflakes... around 20CHF. The chicken was crunchy on the outside, with a soft juicy inside. It was complimented with a yummy berry jelly. I was happy. The chicken caesar salad was ok. All the toppings were good, but the salad itself was pretty bitter. And the schnitzel was a regular old schnitzel, but it wasn't bad at all. We topped everything off with a coupe denmark... it was deeeeeelicious. The food was pretty good, the price was great, and the location was tip top. I was really satisfied. I have heard this place is also wonderful for fondu and traditional Swiss food, but I have yet to try it!

Yelp
This is an excellent restaurant with three different dining arrangements. You can sit outside on the fur covered chairs complete with swiss blankets (no joke) and eat Fondue. You can dine in the bar area or go to the formal restaurant upstairs. The Swiss love the outdoor experience and they take part in it even when it is cold. Authentic Swiss cuisine. Great fish and veal dishes. The air dried meat appetizer is a must try. Excellent service and great stop for the real Zurich experience. Vital Statistics: Forget going here on Friday and Saturday and maybe Thursday without reservations in the upstairs section of the restaurant. You will need to settle on the bar area which I did and it was nice. Good prices on wine and beer. The hard stuff is pricey.

Yelp
My husband and I had to be in Zuerich for Christmas this year due to his work schedule and since we were away from all our family we decided to treat ourselves to a night out. The Zunfthaus was one of the only places open for Christmas Eve and we made a reservation for dinner. They saved us the corner table upstairs as requested and the service was beyond amazing. The young ladies working there were so attentive and nice. And I could understand their Swiss German! The food and wine were equally impressive. We chose the 3 course menu for 99- francs per person which turned out to be a decent deal considering Zuerich. We started with a surprise appetizer of roast beef and peppers paired with a sauvignon blanc and then moved on to the lobster bisque. It was foamy and a little thinner than I am used to, but very good. The all you can eat bread kept coming (you can dip it with the olive oil and salted coal if that's your thing) and before the main course we decided on the Italian Chianti and the sugested Rossi red. The beef filet was prepared perfectly medium and was accompanied by crisp fresh veggies, truffles, and a port wine sauce. I could have done without the over salted potato noodles, but I think it was bad luck. My husband's were fine. For dessert was a plum compote topped with cinamon whipped cream. We thoroughly enjoyed our intimate Christmas Eve dinner and would love to go back again and try the outdoor fondue experience.

Yelp
Positively great 'American' style burgers. Fat and juicy, cooked perfectly; with a whole load of fries. Pair it with a mean and tall beer. Summer time means, you can sit along the Limmat River at tables. Just a road between you and the water. This place has friendly staff. Inside seating, is through an arcade. They cook vicious Swiss traditions, like Rosti (shredded potato), invigorating salads and grilled meat platters. Know your food, if you come here. If you do not; it's like showing up in Paris at the Cordon Bleu - asking: 'What is a cordon Bleu?' Powerhouse gastronomy.

Yelp
Simply one of the best meals I have had in years, anywhere. Try and secure the corner table (come late) on the second floor where you have a view of the river and lit up buildings. Beautiful. But everything from the "bacon roll" to the veal dish - Fried Veal steak with morel cream sauce, butter noodles and mixed vegetables - to the service was impeccable.

Yelp
After seeing that Swiss Chuchi was packed in the middle of Sunday evening for dinner, my family and I wandered back towards Zunfthaus, as we had spotted the outdoors fondue area (which was what we were hankering for). You can only eat the fondue outside given the 'strong' aroma that it generates, but even when it's cold outside, the space heaters and the heated packs of rocks (I think?) helped keep us relatively warm, even though it was cool and raining a bit outside. Our waiter was okay, although his attention seemed occupied elsewhere for the most part, and he forgot to bring our appetizer out (which was just a cured meats plate) until we were well through the first pot of fondue. As for the meat plate - it was pretty standard...nothing terribly special, and priced at the usual Zurich prices (i.e. a bit above where it would probably be back in the US). The fondue was pretty solid - despite having that smell that makes you wonder what on earth is cooking, the flavor of the house cheese mix was pretty good. My only complaint - and perhaps not a huge one, as I don't eat fondue all that often - but the vodka definitely didn't taste like it was all burned off when served, particularly as you made your way towards the bottom of the bowl. It may have helped if we were given some utensils to mix the fondue around more to mask that flavor, but it gave the fondue a bit of a curdling taste. We were given small fingerling potatoes to dip (which were solid, if a bit plain), as well as the pieces of bread (same criticism - literally just chunks of bread, nothing special). In all, it definitely came off as a very traditional fondue meal, if a bit on the plain side. There aren't any options either (with regards to the types of fondue or the dipping implements) aside from just getting a pot of fondue with bread and potatoes, but compared to a lot of the other meals I had here, it was definitely more affordable, and the covered outdoor area is a pleasant place to eat - and I can imagine it'd be quite nice when it stays lighter later on in the year.

Yelp
What is swiss food to me. It does include the basics such as air dried meat called Bündnerfleisch. Fondue is not a plastic product made by dupont or some form of hot cheese wiz product, it is amazing cheese that is then melted and you add truffle butter. Then you add the beer that has not been ruined for our safety with preservatives and heat and you get what God had intended. Can not say enough good things about swiss food except that it is almost as good as the people. By American standards it is expensive. Two people ordering wine and beer will run about a buck fifty. They have the option to eat outside and of course have all kinds of blankets to keep warm with. Make it a point to wrap your self up early and save the heat instead of trying to warm up once cold if you eat outside. Inside is nice but does not have the views and the people watching of the patio.

Yelp
We were walking across the streets of Zurich and since it was our last Swiss destination, we decided to check Fondue of our lists. We saw this restaurant and they had nice outside seating with beautiful view of Church of our lady. The atmosphere was serene and perfect. We picked the table and sat there and waited for our server to arrive. The servers were nowhere in sight and it took them 20 mins to come to get the order. First look at the menu and boy it was pricey but the shock wave hit us when we came to knew that we cannot share the fondue so it was 40 CHF for per person. To make most out of it we ordered at-least 2 option; mushroom fondue and hot chili fondue and 2 wines to pair with it. The order was served with bread pieces. We were little disappointed with both the options. There was no flavor to it besides cheese and bread quality was further demeaning the taste. we had fondue quiet a few times in US and we were expecting something better and authentic but Zunfthaus zur Zimmerleuten failed to cater to our taste buds. The wine was the only star of the meal. Couple points to note: -PRICEY -NO SHARING of FONDUE -BELOW AVERAGE TASTING FONDUE -BAD SERVICE -GREAT VIEW AND AWESOME WINE SELECTION I wouldn't recommend this place for the food but just for drinks and relaxing, this would be a great stop.

Yelp
Amazing! Get the veal specialty with the fried roaring potatoes and mushroom sauce with just a dab of melting butter. We liked the ground floor outdoor seating. Not the views but great for people watching. Kind servers too. Good Swiss wine choices too.

Yelp
We went to the upstair dinning hall and before we had a chance to say 'four for dinner', the waitress immediately said: 'fondue is outside downstairs'. We went downstairs and were seated outside. We just arrived from Italy in the afternoon and this is the first restaurant we went in Zurich. I guess the waitress is probably right -- as Asians, we only know one kind of Swiss food, the fondue. We asked for fondue for two and some other dishes for the kids. No can't do, the waitress said. You need to order fondue for 4. Not sure if this is the norm for fondue meal here, we decided not to do fondue and order something else on the menu. Two minutes later, three Asians came and sat next to us. They ordered the fondue. It came with a pot of strong smelling cheese and a BIG BAG of raw potatoes and some bread. That's it, and it was for 60 Swiss franc each. It is obvious that it doesn't really matter whether you have two or ten people in your party, for a fondue dinner, the only difference is whether they gave you one big bag of potatoes or 5 big bags of potatoes. We decided not to try or look for fondue restaurants for the rest of our Switzerland trip.

Yelp
While strolling the raclette smelling, BMW filled, neutral streets of central Zurich, one can't help noticing all the "zunft"s sprinkled throughout, and often written in what appears to be medieval Germanic font. As a newbie to Zurich, as well as to the sing song-y Swiss-German language, I quickly Googlated "Zunft" to find out it is a guild. Immediately images of robin hood thieves planning their next royal heist while chomping on chicken legs and drinking cheap wine from golden goblets came to mind. Perhaps I have played too much Dungeon and Dragons, but none the less I decided to book a nearby Zunft for a nice Sunday Funday brunch. I asked some locals about what might be good guild near where I live and despite having my robin hood guild bubble bursted, I made an online reservation for Zunfthaus zum Zimmerleuter. Of course being on Limmatquai near the mouth of the lake, I was well aware of the "swiss" prices I would be paying. Luckily, I have slowly weaned myself away from internally converting swiss francs to euros. But sometimes the sharpness of the prices can still sting like a burst of fresh raclette as you pass by an outdoor stall during a smoldering Züri Fäscht day. We promptly arrive on time to be seated at a nice table on the first floor overlooking one of the Zurich church towers on the lake. The interior and service are so nice that you can't help but say "YES" when first asked if you would like a prosecco as an aperitif. Although I wasn't wearing green tights with a bow and arrow, I was already enjoying this pleasant and cozy Sunday Funday brunch. Unfortunately, my review ends here. The food selection is Swiss, which is the reason why I came, so I was looking forward to some nicely cooked veal with some rösti. My plus one ordered some kind of meat/bacon dish that was sure to be a winner, but honestly, I thought everything tasted OK, but didn't WOW me. In fact, I'm learning that many places in Zurich are varying levels of "meh"; this guild being one of them. One interesting thing I had with my potato soup was oxtail praline. I mean.... Seeing this on the menu confused me enough to want to try it. Wasn't sure if I would be getting a chocolate covered hazelnut praline with chunks of ox?!?! But it ended up being a seasoned cube of shredded oxtail that was fried in coating. That was pretty much the highlight and the rest was good, but no reason to rob from the reach to feed the poor. In the end we paid 100 each for wine, drinks and OK food, which for central Zurich isn't bad at all. At the same time, I knew I needed to write this review right away since this guild's unmemorablness would soon forever be stored and lost in the recess of my food-unconscious memory vault.

Yelp
If you are in Zurich, visit one of the famous "Zunfthaus" restaurants. You can't go wrong with the Veal Zurich Style; Very generous portion. They serve you basicly two plates with veal and Roesti (hashbrown).

Yelp
Excellent food and service. Great view of the river. Yelp has the location incorrect. The restaurant is actually on the opposite side if the river.
