We stayed at this beautiful hotel in Schiltach, and it was honestly one of the best experiences we’ve had traveling. From the outside, the house was charming with a small cozy terrace, and the location was absolutely perfect, right in front of the river, which made it so peaceful. The owner, Michael, made our stay truly unforgettable. He welcomed us like we were part of his own family. He was always kind, helpful, and genuine. The way he spoke about his life, his wife, and his passion for hosting guests showed what a big heart he has. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, I slept so well during our stay. The bathroom was also spotless and modern. My whole family loved the place and felt completely at home. At night, the quietness and the sound of the river made the atmosphere even more magical. We also had dinner at the hotel the first evening, and the food was excellent. Michael mentioned that he might retire soon, so if you have the chance to visit this year, I highly recommend it!! Meeting him and staying at this hotel was something special. If you enjoy nature, peace, and a genuine human connection, this is the perfect place. We would love to come back!

Fantastic people giving fantastic food in a wonderful environment. A place really worth visiting, because of the pretty town of Schiltach, the food (not much to choose but great meat) and the people.|Particularly inspiring and summer time, close to the river.

Schiltach is one of the prettiest little towns in the Black Forest, and I'm glad we chose to break our journey overnight here. This is an old building by the river, with free parking outside the hotel. The owner Michael is fluent in English, friendly and very accessible - he is also the chef of the restaurant operated on the premises. Michael upgraded us to a large suite from a regular double room, which was very thoughtful. He also provided advice abotu the town, and I enjoyed our conversation about German political leadership and its future! The beds were comfortable, and mattresses seemed new. The guest house may be in need of some touch up/refurbishment, but everything was perfectly functional and clean. Good value, and central location for Schiltach.

What a lovely stay at this wonderful town and this beautiful hotel. Perfect location, at the central heart of the town, from the window you can look at the beautiful houses and river, with the green Black Forest in the distance. The owner is such a friendly and helpful person, he greeted me whenever we met and was always happy to help with anything that he could. He also recommended me a lovely little hike of the Kirchberg trail next to the town, which provides me the first taste of the tranquility of the one and only Black Forest area. The room was small, but goes with everything that I needed. Clean, organized, beautifully decorated with just the right amount of personal touch. The night was cool so even though no fan or air conditioner, it felt still very comfortable. Highly recommend if you are a solo traveler and at the same time look for a comfy, budget-friendly place to spend your few days in this quiet, magical town. Mia

This is a great place to stay if you're looking to be based in the heart of Schiltach in a homely, informal setting. Michael is a warm, friendly host and makes you feel immediately welcomed. Where other hosts/hotels might have more specific guidance e.g about other services available, Michael will simply respond to your requests as best he can to ensure your stay is comfortable, so be confident to just ask for what you need. A small dinner menu is available with meals cooked to order by Michael. A wholesome breakfast spread can be provided at a reasonable extra charge. We enjoyed beginning each day with fresh rolls, cheese, hams, boiled egg etc. Our room was clean, spacious and met our modest needs. A kettle in the room would be a helpful extra for making tea / coffee, but wasn't missed as we were typically outside enjoying the view of the river from Michael's terrace with a nice local beer in the evening. The room rates are appropriately modest, reflecting the available facilities etc. This is the perfect base for local hikes. Train and bus trips are easy to navigate and help non-car drivers explore nearby towns. Local museums, cafes and restaurants were all really good and everyone was very friendly. A relaxing stay which we were sad came to an end.

Wow! We loved this place! Zur Alten Brucke and its proprietor, Michael were such a highlight of our trip. While exploring some towns in the Black Forest we found the picturesque town of Schiltach and decided to walk around and see if we could find a restaurant. This place is a hidden gem. As we went inside we were greeted with the warmest hello and smile of our entire trip. As it was mid-October and past the tourists season we were the only ones in the restaurant. Michael is very fluent in English which was helpful, even though I am conversationalist in Google translate. He brought us some English menus and we placed our beer order. The beer was excellent and the food was wonderful. Everything tasted fresh and was served with a smile. After a couple of beer I asked Michael about a local hotel, which he replied that there was one very close by, that was inexpensive and had a complimentary breakfast. I said great and he said that he would happily set a reservation for us. We were up well into the night drinking beer (and maybe a couple of shots) and were joined not only by Michael but also his son. We later found out that the hotel was up the stairs the restaurant was part of the hotel. The accommodations were wonderful and just as quaint as the rest of the town. Everything was clean and in good working order. We were able to enjoy the sound and view of the river in front of the hotel. The next morning he had prepared a breakfast fit for a king. We had fresh bread and pastries from the bakery next door, bacon and eggs and fresh fruit. We were also fortunate that the town was having a farmers market the next day. After checking out we walked around the town and were greeted by so many folks along with their crafts and food. I highly recommend that if you are anywhere close, stop by and see Michael, have a bratwurst and an apple strudel and pint or 6 of beer and plan on staying the night. I don’t think you will be disappointed.

If you want some peace and quiet this is a great location. Also you will meet the most hospitable owner/chef you will ever meet. Michael was very kind, helpful and the restaurant food is excellent. There is not too much to do in town, but it is a beautiful relaxing place. It is central to your day trips to other towns or sites in the area. I would definitely recommend a day trip to Colmar, France. It is a very picturesque town with great restaurants. Parking at the hotel is on the street in front of the hotel. I think it is two hour parking in the day time, but we were gone during the days. If you are looking for tourist stores, there is none in this town or in most of the nearby German towns. You will have to go to Lake Titisee or somewhere like that where it is more touristy. There is a great little bakery nearby for morning treats and coffee. Our room was on the back which had a private patio overlooking the alley with beautiful historic homes. The front rooms do have a view of the river. I would definitely stay here again!

A gasthof is exactly what you get when you stay here. The owner treats you like his own family or friends and will make sure you have everything you need for a great stay in this beautiful picturesque town. Michael made us feel very welcome with a surprising gift at breakfast, a very nice touch! Snacks without ordering for them, brought out on the terrace with a beer in the evening was a surprise as well. Without all the unnecessary luxuries you have a comfortable stay at a very good price!
