Google
Such a nice Watch tower. Very interesting and of course, full of historical events to tell from it and its city, Bern. Really a great stop-by spot, a must when you'd like to see the spectacle of the watch with its figures moving at 6pm.

Walking through Bern’s Old Town, I stumbled upon Bim Zytglogge and was instantly charmed. The area around the clock tower feels like a slice of history—cobblestone streets, medieval buildings, and the hourly show of mechanical figures on the astronomical clock. It’s a lively spot, with locals and tourists mingling, and plenty of cafés and shops nearby.

Visiting the Zytglogge was a highlight of my trip to Bern. This 13th-century clock tower is not just a beautiful landmark, it’s a piece of living history. I arrived a few minutes before the hour and was amazed by the mechanical figures and the precise chime—it feels like stepping back in time. The surrounding Old Town streets are charming, full of cafés and little shops, making it a perfect spot to explore after watching the show. Whether you love history, architecture, or just a great photo opportunity, the Zytglogge is a must-see in Bern.

Zytglogge in Bern is one of those places that catches your eye even if you’re not looking for it. It’s an old clock tower right in the middle of the old town, and the first time I saw it, I just stood there staring for a bit—it’s that striking. The big astronomical clock face, the golden details, and the little figures that move when the hour strikes—it all has this old-world charm that makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. What I loved most was how it’s just part of the street, not tucked away or behind gates. Locals walk by like it’s nothing, but as a visitor, you really appreciate how much history is packed into that spot. The street around it is full of arcades, little shops, cafés, and those classic Bernese buildings with red roofs and green shutters. I caught the clock show on the hour, and though it’s short and simple, it was fun to see the mechanical figures come to life. If you're wandering through Bern, you’ll probably pass it anyway, but it’s worth pausing for. Zytglogge isn’t just a landmark—it’s a lovely little moment of Bern’s character and history.

Old Town Bern is picturesque both in the day and night. Can take Bus 12 from main square to Bear Park and return. If you stay in hotel, can get activation code for free bus ride in Bernapp. Else, can park at Casino car park but it's expensive.

Zytglogge (Clock Tower) was built in 1220 as part of Bern’s western gate, becoming a civic clock tower after the city expanded. The astronomical clock was added in 1530 with moving figures such as bears, a jester, and Chronos, which perform each hour.

Google
Its a big old clock. There is some entertaining bits on the west side every hour but dont expect anything dramatic like a giant cuckoo clock. Pretty cool though for an 800 year old piece of work.

Yelp
I can only write a review on what i've seen And the Zytglogge is something to behold? I've seen big bin in a couple of the clocks across Europe and disclock had me staring at it for about 10 minutes at a time. Looking at the detail in the architecture, I see, why this is something to behold in Bern ,Switzerland.

Yelp
The 179 ft clock tower is the oldest monument of the city with its 15th-century astronomical clock. I, and others, assumed there was going to be something special that happened every hour. There wasn't.

Yelp
Zytglogge is one of the most notable landmarks in Berne, originating as the city's western fortification when it was erecting in the year 1220. The medieval clock tower has served as the guard tower, prison, clock tower and civic memorial. In addition to telling time, Zytglogge is also an astrological clock that is divided into three zones: the black night sky, the deep blue zone of dawn and the light blue day sky. This portrays the season and time of day, rather than operating on a 12-hour basis. It also includes a Julian calendar. Of course, every hour, a bell rings loudly throughout the town. Zytglogge is definitely a sight to behold. How often do you see an 800 year old clock? Viewing Time: 10 minutes

Yelp
The Zytglogge is a very cool clock that serves as a great landmark for Berne in the city centre. This clock is a wonder of horological timekeeping in tune with Swiss tradition and also has a glockenspiel that rings every 15 minutes and does different actions. It's amazing that it still works more than 800 years later (although I'm sure with careful maintenance)! If you have an appreciation of timekeeping-watches or just want to get a free show look up and hear the bells ringing! A wonderful example of the Swiss tradition of timekeeping and carefully constructed movement of gears, springs and movement to make it all happen and keep time!

Yelp
The Zytglogge, or 'time bell' in Bernese German, is a 13th Century medieval astronomical clock tower in storybook Old city of Bern, a UNESCO World Cultural Heriatge site. It is made in the Baroque style with some Gothic elements and is an important part of Bern's charm. Sad story to it, though - it was a prison for women who had sex with priests.
