This is a historic and well-known hot spring inn. The room had its own private hot spring, so I could enjoy it anytime I wanted. The local craft beer was absolutely delicious. I didn’t know much about Ehime’s beer before, so it was a pleasant surprise.

We loved almost everything about Bettei Oborozukiyo. It has a classic Japanese aesthetic, but is actually quite new, modern, stylish and fresh (it was established in 2015.) It's also small, private and quaint - it consists of only 19 rooms, which is a big departure from many of the mega hotels that litter the Dogo Onsen landscape. And it's only a short walking distance away from the main tourist sites in the area. All in all, we couldn't have asked for much more than what Bettei Oborozukiyo offered.||||We booked a "G-Type Special Room with Open-Air Bath" (Room #307, "Oborozuki" to be specific), the highest room category at the property. It's a nicely laid out and tastefully furnished and decorated suite room that features not one but two open-air, free-flowing Onsen (hot springs) baths. One is small bath (large enough for only one person) and is completely open air, while the second Onsen is much larger, and can be either fully enclosed or open-air, depending on whether you open all of the sliding glass windows. You really get the best of both worlds here. We had the smaller Onsen set to a hotter temperature and used it to quickly warm up our bodies, while the larger Onsen was set to a slightly lower temperature - allowing us to spend a longer amount of time enjoying the bath. It was pure bliss. It's worth noting that every single room at Bettei Oborozukiyo has at least one open-air Onsen bath, which is a real luxury and probably the main reason people would visit Dogo Onsen in the first place. And the Onsen hot springs water comes from the same source as the one used by the famous Dogo Onsen Honkan public bath house, so you know that it's going to be a special experience. A few other advantages of our room - it featured two separate toilets (Mrs. KI-NRT loves separate toilets!), and a bedroom that is completely separated from the main living area, which allowed her to take a peaceful nap while I was conducting a video conference with business partners.||||Meals for all guests are served in private dining rooms, which was nice (although if we were to nitpick, we prefer to be served in our the actual room that we're staying in.) And the Kaiseki meal was delicious and beautifully presented. While it was not the best meal we've ever had, all of the ingredients were locally-sourced and super fresh, especially the awesome seafood that was offered (including sashimi-style.) And the Iyo Beef Sirloin "Shabu Shabu" hot pot was a great way to enjoy the local meat delicacy. Both dinner and breakfast were served by Riyo Miyauchi, a charming, engaging and enthusiastic young lady who was born and raised in the area, prompting us to ask many questions about the region and learning a great deal about Ehime as a result (especially the food.)||||Given that Japan was in the middle of a big pandemic wave, it was great to be able to enjoy top quality Onsen in the comfort of our room, without having to result to the communal bath at Bettei Oborozukiyo, or at Dogo Onsen Honkan (we would've definitely checked it out if not for COVID.) That, coupled with its convenient location, small room count, great food and friendly and attentive service, made our stay (and visit to Dogo Onsen overall) a very memorable one.

Stayed there for two nights. We loved the calm and quiet atmosphere of the hotel. The room was spacious and very clean. The private onsen was big enough to stretch my legs. The food was really great and we got big tummies every time we left the restaurant :) Although the staff members knew only little English, they always tried their best to understand what we said. They even tried to use translation app on their iphone to show us the translation! Don't be scared with the price. It worths!

Oborozukiyo is the prefect retreat in the heart of the history hot spring town of Dogo, Matsuyama city. Traditional Japanese suites with impeccable cleanliness and perfect privacy, with en-suite bath with constant direct supply of Dogo hot spring. Dinner is extremely high quality Japanese course dinner, and common space at lobby provides refreshments and drinks including drought beer. Most highly recommended if you like to enjoy the highest quality Japanese Ryokan, perfect privacy, and one of the best Japanese dinner.

The Oborozukiyo Hotel and Onsen in the Dogo area of Matsuyama is a beautiful upscale hotel. One of the original hotels in the area, it's been beautifully renovated to a gracious and beautiful blend of mostly Japanese, with some Western, architecture and decor. Our first floor suite is spacious and well designed; it could accommodate another person or a couple. The two rooms can be separated or open: one is tatami, and would be set up with futons for sleeping; the other is carpeted and hardwood with Western style beds. The open washroom, snack area and outside bath are in the common area. The shared toilet is in its own room, and outside both rooms, accessed through sliding doors from either. Screens to the outside bath and patio can be lowered for privacy. The bath is large, and available 24 hours; the temperature can be adjusted. The patio is nice for relaxing and cooling off after the bath, and has a great view of the garden. Terrycloth robes are provided. There is a massage chair if you don't want to visit the masseuse. The snack area is stocked with complimentary drinks in the fridge. Two packages of good quality  coffee are provided, more can be requested.

The hotel is pricy. Hotel is nice but the service is not Traditional Japanese standard. ||Huge room with Open-air bath, Free MiniBar and massage chair in room. ||Breakfast and Dinner also not bad. The hotel itself is ok but just like 5 Stars Resort standard. ||I am sure they are Top 1 at Dōgo Area but the hotel is missing something. ||||Anyway, it still good hotel if you look for 5 Stars resort at Dōgo Area.
