Tldr: The hosts are lovely, the food was delightful, and the room was so comfortable. Some highlights: This ryokan has an amazing mineral-rich outdoor onsen, one of the best I’ve ever experienced in Japan, and is right next to the famous Tsubo-yu bath. The dinner was great. We ordered the shabu-shabu course, which was served with onsen water, and every other dish was delicious. Breakfast was also filling and featured some of the best grilled fish I have had at a ryokan. I slept like a baby with the sound of the river right outside of the room. The hosts helped us find our way to the Kumano-Kodo trail and were very sweet people! Thank you! 10/10 would recommend Yoshinoya Ryokan!

Possibly the best and most abundant dinner we've had in a Ryokan in Japan. We had ordered the Oguri-hankan course and it was a feast of Japanese delicacies. It could possibly be too much as we really struggled to finish everything! The hotel is nice too, with a beautiful outdoor bath, and clean rooms.

Ryokan Yoshinoya is what a warm and welcoming Ryokan should be. Excellent amenities, all the perks of the location and onsen, and delicious Japanese cuisine served in their charming dining room.

Finished hiking the Kumano Kodo for the day and caught the bus to the little gem. ||Was the off season so there was only 5 people staying in the whole hotel - this mean that the private onsen got a lot of use! The rooms are Japanese style with tatami mats - but they have everything that you need. The toilets and wash basins are out in the hallway not too far away.||The food was really quite good and plentiful - did not leave a skerrick behind. That private onsen was the highlight of this establishment and its proximity to the bus stop - less than 100 metres!

Nice place. A little dated but not a huge deal when your exhausted from hiking and all you want is a nice meal and hot shower. The ladies onsen is hot! REALLY HOT. Starting running cold water in it as soon as you get there so when you're done showering you can hop in without scalding yourself. The staff were very friendly. There are definitely mosquitoes to watch out for so keep your doors closed. Fabulous home prepared meal.

This wasn't my first choice of accommodation in Yunomine, I ended up there because the place I chose was already fully booked. It was the worst of all my accommodations in the Kumano Kodo and the most expensive. ||The place is nice, a little dated and not the cleanest. It has an outside onsen which was really nice. My room was ok as well. The japanese style showers are downstairs but my room was upstairs. 'the wifi only works downstairs which isn't a problem for me but it's worth mentioning. ||I arrived in the afternoon and had to leave early the next morning so the owner told me he couldn't provide breakfast for me, even though I had already paid for it. ||I can't comment on the food as I am a vegetarian and they don't cater for it and wouldn't adjust the menu so I couldn't eat any of my dinner.||I felt like their customer service wasn't up to standard and I didn't feel welcome or comfortable as I did in all the other places I've stayed in Japan. ||I wouldn't stay there again. Not good value for money.

We stayed here for one night after completing our hikes on the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage routes. The inn was excellent, and we especially enjoyed the private outdoor onsen. The owner and his wife were especially welcoming. Also the dinner and breakfast were excellent. I highly recommend this Ryokan!

day # 3 on our self guided kumano kudo hike. arrived by bus and departed by cab. again, the address is listed as tanabe, and the town is yunomine. this was a very unique area, built around a UNESCO world heritage hot spring bath, the tiny tsuboyu bath, a sacred site on the kumano pilgrimage route. the inn had a number of rooms, entirely different than our first ryokan with 1 and our second with 10. sinks in the hallway and separate washrooms also in the hallways. wonderful private onsen steps away from the inn. use ones key and turn the sign to used, and all yours. outdoors, gardens around it. very hot water, just what the body needed. the inn was clean and well run. wonderful meals. a t.v. with the world rugby game was set up in the dining area, very thoughtful of the owners. and appreciated! wandered the few blocks of the area built along the creek before we settled in for the night. a unique experience.
