The Silk Street Mall in Beijing is one of the city’s most famous shopping and tourist destinations, and it’s much more than just a place to shop. From the moment you enter, you’ll notice the hustle and bustle, with colorful displays everywhere and corridors packed with shops selling almost everything you can imagine: clothes, bags, watches, accessories, handicrafts, electronics, and even Chinese cultural souvenirs. What makes this mall special is not only the variety of products but also the way business is done here. Bargaining is an essential part of the experience. Initial prices are usually very high, but with a polite negotiation and a smile, you can often get items for half the price—or even less. This makes the whole experience enjoyable, almost like a playful challenge with the vendors. The mall itself is modern, clean, and well-organized compared to the old open-air Silk Street, but it still retains a lively, traditional spirit. You’ll also find small restaurants and cafés where you can take a break after exploring the multiple floors. The silk and fabric shops are especially worth visiting, with some offering tailoring services to make custom clothes on the spot. It can get crowded, especially on weekends or in the evenings, but that’s part of its vibrant charm. For anyone visiting Beijing who enjoys shopping or simply wants to experience the atmosphere of a bustling local market, Silk Street Mall is a must. It combines shopping fun, cultural discovery, and a taste of authentic everyday life in China

秀水街 Silk Street/ silk market is a mall instead of an actual street as they have been reorganised as a shopping block instead of vendors selling in the street. Shops selling silk wears, fashion, bags, jewelleries with brand or no brand copies , phone electronic accessories etc. A Degree In Bargaining skills is much needed here. It is a test of patience and waste of time as items are marked up double or triple its selling price, we can hear shouting and arguing of prices between shopkeepers and customers every now and then. However there are also many pleasant and charming shop owners over the rude and naughty few! Just soak in and enjoy some culture. The cafe and restaurants served delicious food. Fusion House Restuarant is a definitely a must go after hours of shopping to fill your empty stomach and rest your tired feet. Feast with your eyes :P

Good quality goods and plenty of room to bargain for a discount if you are patient and persistent (with warmth). less full so not so overwhelming. The mall is clean and organised. When you arrive it looks unassuming and quiet. Just take the lift down one floor and keep exploring further down, this is where the real market begins. Don’t buy from the first shop - see what you like then look further, you can always do back if you choose. If you can do this, you’ll be happy you did. Best place to get prescription (made within 30 minutes) and sun glasses. Great handbags too - just check, smell, look closely for a grain in the material and take your time be sure it’s leather. There is a definitely mix here as expected.

A nice high fashion shopping mall. It is located a little outside Beijing city center. You can walk there (around 1 hour) or take a taxi (20-30 minutes depending on traffic conditions).

Silk Street is no longer the icon it once was, but value is still there if you know how to negotiate. Quality varies widely, so inspect items carefully and don’t be swayed by the first offer. Posted prices are often several times higher than what you should pay, so consider them an opening move rather than a reality. Bargaining is essential: start low, counter in small steps, and be ready to walk away—vendors commonly call you back with a better price. Aim for a price you’re comfortable with rather than chasing the absolute minimum. You can land strong discounts across categories, from textiles and accessories to small electronics and souvenirs

If you are looking for nice chinese silk tops/ fashion, bedding, scarves. Then this should be your destination. I was put off and actually almost removed from my plan because of the low rating. But honestly after going there, I regret not allocating more time for it. I bought some nice tops, shirt, 100% silk pajamas and pillow cases.

I walked this market maybe 25 years ago when this was outdoors like a regular Chinese Street market. Today it's actually a building I believe six or eight stories tall with two basements floors. I really wanted to go down to basement level two, the note said some Chinese original designers are down there. Unfortunately we were caught by one of the merchants, they are very persistent. They took us upstairs to their private showroom and showed us some stuff that let's just say are not the original. The building is very clean and fairly quiet. You have lots of time and space to roam

Very quiet, hardly any customers. Shops were mainly selling same merchandise and rather expensive too. Very competitive. Can be very unpleasant to shop there as shop assistants came pushing their products as you walk by. As a result, they are very open to price negotiation.
