The Ecce Homo Convent was a highlight of my short trip to Jerusalem. Within the Old City and on the Via Dolorosa, it provides the perfect location from which to discover this exciting city.
It is situated at the second station of the cross on the Via Dolorosa and is a focal point for Christian pilgrims from around the world. It is close to all the market shops and stalls and close to a host of cafes and restaurants. I understand you can eat dinner at the hostel, but I cannot comment on that as I did not do so.
Breakfast is a rudimentary affair with tea, coffee, bread, jam, cheese, cold meats and creals. It is absolutely sufficient for anyone's needs before they head out for the day.
The rooms are small, quite spartan but spotlessly clean. I spent next to no time in my room, so this was fine for me.
The call to prayer from the Al Aqsa mosque is very loud in the morning, but in my view adds a real sense of Jerusalem to your stay. There is no doubt that you are within this historical and ancient city when you hear the prayers wafting out over the Old City first thing in the morning. This should not annoy you - embrace the experience.
The staff are very helpful and the Nuns are pleasant and accommodating. This is not the place for you if you wish to sit up into the early hours partying. The doors are closed at 11:00pm. This suited my needs perfectly, as there are so many things to do in Jerusalem, I was up early each day to explore.
Would I come back here? Absolutely!
