A living testament to Tibetan culture and spiritual resilience. One of the best preserved Tibetan ancient town in China…decorated with cobblestone streets, old houses, prayer flag draped alleys. Enchanting to see the place

Love the whole environment here, with old street and old buildings. Must walk into the local traditional museum near the south entrance. Exploring the handicrafts and the colouring that created from the original nature stones. There is a shop with a lot of collections, really an eye opening experience. If you happen to come at the evening, remember to walk into the center area of this ancient town, there is a chance that u can see the local dancing around the fire.

This olace had a magical feel to it, lots of good restaurants and touristy shops. There’s not a lot to see here apart from the Temple. Every night there is dancing in the second square from 7.30-9pm. Don’t miss it!

We stayed within the ancient town and had a chance to walk around the ancient town a few times. Nice vibes here with lots of shopping and restaurants within the ancient town. Also very nice place for photography, especially at night.

Really impressed with the structure and architecture of Tibetan houses and culture here. Although a fire lasting over ten hours broke out destroying most of the town in 2014, Dukezong was completely restored and officially reopened to the public in 2016. Dukezong Ancient Town is situated at an altitude of 3,200m above sea level in the Shangri-La City. As one of the largest and best-preserved Tibetan residence groups in China, it is over thirteen hundred years old, and was a key stop on the ancient Tea Horse Road and a focal point for Han-Tibetan exchanges. Dukezong in Tibetan language has two meanings: Castle built on Stone and Moon City.

Old town of Shangrila with colourful riots of temples, largest prayer wheel, Ancient alleys, foodies haven and interesting souvenir shops to be discovered.

The place is magical, the praying wheels are the main attraction for people to come, especially at nighttime it's super amazing. There's no entrance fee, and it's not crowded.
