Where to Drink in Guadeloupe

In Guadeloupe, drinks and meals go hand in hand, and not just as sundowners. Locals wash their appetizers down with a classic ti' punch or perhaps a planteur rhum punch as an aperitif, while wine and fresh juices accompany heavier meals. As a result, restaurants double as excellent bars, each well-stocked with a variety of local and imported drinks. Credit: Collected by Lebawit Lily Girma, AFAR Local Expert

Ti Robinson

"Ti' Robinson is your classic Caribbean driftwood beach bar, looking like it just washed up on shore yet serving the best cocktails around. But this bar packs even more in its punch, since it’s located on a small offshore islet. Easily reached by a five-minute boat ride from La Datcha Beach in Gosier, locals and tourists flock here to spend a day away from the mainland, swim in shallow waters, and enjoy fresh cocktails and local meals."

Zoo Rock Café

Restaurant

"At night, Gosier’s Marina in Grande-Terre turns into a big nightlife hub. One of the most popular and long-running spots is the lively Zoo Rock Café, a bar, restaurant, and lounge where a DJ spins popular international tunes while cocktails flow and a mixed crowd of locals and tourists dances the night away. Late-night grilled eats are available. Theme nights are popular here—check their website before you head out."

LA TOUBANA HOTEL & SPA

Hotel

"White Night Beach Party La Toubana, one of Guadeloupe’s most exclusive beachfront hotels, hosts a white night beach party every Sunday around its infinity pool and beach. Open to the public but with the white beachwear requirement enforced, the outdoor event includes an international DJ spinning the latest tunes on one of the archipelago’s most beautiful beaches. There's a sumptuous all-inclusive buffet if you arrive before 2 p.m. and pay 50 euros, otherwise the cover charge is 25 euros."

Guadeloupe

"Set along the beach at Langley Resort Fort Royal, Kawann Beach Bar is a chic but casual option for cocktails on the sand. Sample a local rhum mixed with fresh fruits and snack on pizza, sandwiches, and other bar bites all day and night until midnight."

Sushi bar 971

Permanently Closed

"Gains Bar is a hip cocktail joint set al fresco at the Saint-Francois Marina, attracting after-work crowds and well-heeled locals. Doubling as a sushi spot, you’ll also find live music nights and various cultural performances, including gwo-ka drumming and oriental dance shows. It’s a great place to share cocktails and platters of sushi and to enjoy some music. Tables fill up quickly so it's best to reserve ahead."

New Ti Paris

Restaurant · Guadeloupe

"Set off the beaten path in Le Gosier, New Ti Paris is a local favorite for its artsy bar atmosphere and nightly live music performances. Jazz, funk, and biguine —an African-inspired Guadeloupean rhythm—dominate the sounds of visiting local artists, while the pizzas and cocktails flow. Expect people to get up and dance when the music gets really good. It’s a solid pick for a chill local night out."
