Windham Hill Inn

"How did it strike you on arrival?Like you've stumbled onto some quaint cottage in the English countryside. The foliage is perfectly overgrown and you feel as if you're visiting a friend's home rather than a hotel. Once you've entered, you're met with ultra-cozy fireplaces and overstuffed chairs. Nice. What’s the crowd like? It's for anyone looking for a non-fussy and intimate stay in Vermont, where perhaps AirBnB lacks the service you're after, but you still want to maintain a house-of-your-own feel. How was check-in, getting to your room, and all that?Check-in, much like the overarching vibe of the property, was warm and friendly. There wasn't any complex sort of technology. The good stuff: Tell us about your room.We stayed in a queen with fireplace room. Unlike any other room I've stayed in, this was ripped right out of someone's English country house, with its green carpet, rich colored accents, and brick fireplace. Was simple and darling. Some of the rooms had a deck. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase? There wasn't much more to the room than the basics. Terry cloth robes and iron we'e the biggest bonuses. Room service and food: Worth it?This is the kind of place you want to lock yourself up in during your stay, and luckily you're not far from great food. At the on-site restaurant, the menu is seasonal and they do traditional favorites well. Start with the crab cakes with avocado and gazpacho sorbet, and then move onto the honey glazed roast duck with rhubarb sauce. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.The genius of this place is that it's literally a home-away-from-home, and there's isn't much more to it. They do offer a summer picnic package, were they'll arrange a gourmet outdoor meal for two. Bottom line: Worth it, and why?If you're in the area and looking for a cozy stay with a meal that won't disappoint, give the Windham Hill Inn a whirl. Wouldn't be a spot to visit if it's out of your way or to make it a sole destination." - Corbin Chamberlin
