La Valise Hotel

"How did it strike you on arrival? You might mistake this boutique hotel for just another colonial house on a tree-lined street in Roma. But that's by design: The hotel is laid out like a townhouse, with rooms divided between the first and second floors. Nice. What’s the crowd like?Gals, pack your floppy hats and linen dresses; guys, grow out your beard and grab a leather shoulder bag. The crowd here is young and trendy. The good stuff: Tell us about your room. Each of the three rooms is spacious, with contemporary interiors, large windows, and Mesoamerican-inspired wall art. The most impressive one is La Terraza—the bed literally slides out onto a private terrace so you can sleep beneath the stars. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?Beds are outfitted with stark-white Egyptian-cotton sheets and cozy comforters on colder nights. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase?Prior to your stay, the staff will email to ask about your favorite drinks and snacks; upon arrival, expect a personalized (complimentary) minibar. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down. Before you soak in that freestanding tub, don your chicest sandals and take a #ihavethisthingwithfloors Instagram of the geometric bathroom tiles. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word? The Wi-Fi is strong and free for all hotel guests. Room service: Worth it?There's no restaurant at the hotel, but room service can be brought in from Rosetta, a great restaurant down the street. The waiters will hand-deliver your meal and even set the table. What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay?Being in the center of Mexico City in what feels like your very own luxurious home. Bottom line: worth it, and why?The interior design is quirky (a repurposed satellite dish is used as a divider in the Luna Room, for example), but comfort is never compromised for the sake of design. You get the best of both worlds." - Susannah Rigg
