"One of Austin’s best-known and most prolific sushi restaurants, Uchi, is making its way to Miami. The news came out at a private dinner during last week during SXSW (South by Southwest), according to Eater Austin. The restaurant first debuted on the Austin scene in a refurbished house in 2003, and is described by many as “altering the city’s culinary identity.” Uchi made a name for itself with its nontraditional (albeit pricey) seasonal sushi and rolls, and is a mainstay on Austin’s Eater 38 map. It’s also known for its popular sake social happy hour that offers deep discounts on wine, beer, sake, and bites like hand nigiri. The restaurant won plenty of accolades over the years, including a James Beard Award for Cole in 2011, and has expanded to locations in Houston, Dallas, and Denver, along with opening “sister” restaurants including an Asian smokehouse, a cocktail bar, and a more informal Japanese-style eatery." - Olee Fowler
