"At Downtown LA’s new basement bar, Bar CDMX, opening Friday, August 25, bartenders pour draft mezcal, tequila, and rum cocktails while another shakes and stirs a range of classic drinks. Rock music and arcade games — both in Spanish — add a playful vibe to the 3,000-square-foot space below Seven Grand, which also houses a pool table beneath framed prints by Mexico-based artist Beo Hake; mirrors hang above wooden booths, each labeled with a different Mexico City neighborhood, and Victorian woodwork contrasts with concrete walls in a design by Jared Meisler. The drinks program pays homage to Mexico City and emphasizes agave-based spirits and rum, with four drafts (margaritas, mojitos, mezcal palomas, and tropic thunders made with rum, orgeat, pineapple, lemon, and ginger) and stirred and shaken classics including a mezcal and rum punch, a caipirinha, a mezcal margarita, a carajillo, and an Old Fashioned made with a spirit of choice. The entrance is easy to miss and marked by a neon sign with the CDMX name and a pair of broken glasses; soft opening is Aug. 25, grand opening Aug. 31, and daily hours will be 3 p.m. to 2 a.m." - Virali Dave
