"Jalopy Tavern is the little bar connected to the Jalopy Theatre, a folk music venue in Red Hook. It’s the de facto hang for a community of musicians, and anyone else who wants to get into the honky tonk spirit. Every night, folk and bluegrass bands squeeze into one side of the narrow bar—and things can get wild. It’ll take a shot of well whiskey to keep up with the erratic fiddle-playing, and two more to start swing-dancing across the room like the regulars. If you head to the back patio for a cigarette, you might find an impromptu guitar circle or late-night dice game, and on quieter evenings, they put blues on the speakers and Jeopardy on the TV. Just try to avoid anything Southern-adjacent on the food menu. The food isn’t that great in general, so this isn't the time to order a shrimp po’boy." - Neha Talreja
