"Handsome Dan’s is loosely themed like a bait-and-tackle shop, in the same way your uncle’s garage is “nautical” because there are fishing rods in the corner and a vintage boat calendar from 1986. A few wall decorations nod to the concept, but mostly this is a nice place to hang out, eat a sandwich, and day-drink on a shaded patio. The menu is short—think cubanos, tuna melts, and italian subs. None of them are worth a pilgrimage across town, but they’re exactly what you want after an afternoon of climbing at Austin Bouldering Project next door, or alongside a few cold beers under the East Side bar’s outdoor fans. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary photo credit: Nicolai McCrary photo credit: Nicolai McCrary Pause Unmute Food Rundown Cubano It’s pressed thin with crispy bread and a generous amount of roast pork, ham, cheese, and mustard. It’s pretty much a textbook cuban, and we’re into it. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary Italian The roll is a little thicker and crustier than other italian subs in town, but the meats are solid and the aged provolone brings just enough bite. A reliable pick. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary" - Nicolai McCrary
