"I spent a month on Ko Lipe and it remains one of my fondest memories: bathtub-warm water, fine sand beaches, super-friendly locals who bring in a daily catch for amazing seafood, and waters teeming with life (nearby is an island with excellent snorkeling where you may even spot reef sharks). Accommodation is still basic though increasingly offering 24/7 electricity; development worries me, so visit soon. Best weather and fewer people are between November and March, while May–October is a harsh monsoon that can shut the island down; the best access is by boat from Pak Bara." - Matthew Kepnes
