"Bicycle Habitat started as a small storefront on Lafayette in 1978 by Charlie McCorkell, who as the director at Transport Alternative, promoted bicycle advocacy from the start, and had a hand in adding bike lanes onto Manhattan's busy streets. Today, it has expanded next door and into other neighborhoods. The Lafayette store divided into a road bike store and a performance cycling store, and boasts the largest selection of bikes in the city. People-centric from the start, the store offers bike rentals, a repair shop that runs workshops, and free tune ups on your bike for life." - Julia Guo
