Authentic Turkish grill, lahmacun, gozleme, adana kebabs
"The majority of Green Lanes’ smoking ocakbaşı action occurs in Harringay, but down by Newington Green, plenty of people know that 01 Adana is just as good, if not better than snazzier options further north. We’ve relied on this ginormous Turkish canteen for years, whether it be for a swift, satisfying lahmacun (no garlic or chilli, ever) or a post-pub Friday night dinner of juicy adana kofte, grilled onion salad, and one more Efes for the road. You’ll get a mix of gruff locals and i-D magazine-worthy Dalstonites, depending on the time and the day, and come most Fridays and Saturdays there’s a pleasing hum to this big strip-lighting-lit room. The meat cooking here is very good, and sitting down with your most trusted carnivorous friends for a mixed grill is always a good idea. That said, when hanger strikes, a wrap has never let us down. Food Rundown Lahmacun 01 Adana’s peynirli lahmacun is an irresistible bit of gooey salty sacrilege. The cheese, of the indeterminable-but-salty-and-excellent-at-melting variety, is an unsurprisingly happy match for a handheld snack with meat and mince. That said, a classic always goes down well here too. photo credit: Giulia Verdinelli" - Jake Missing
"01 Adana’s airy, canteen-style room can fit groups big, small, or singular and a midweek meal of adana kofte and beautiful singed onion salad in pomegranate molasses never goes amiss. If time isn’t on your side, this Newington Green spot is still perfect. A solo bowl of mercimek corbasi (lentil soup) always hits in winter or a freshly made crispy lahmacun (with salad, but hold the sauces) is a winner on-the-go." - rianne shlebak, sinead cranna, jake missing
"Few things make us happier than opening the fridge to find a few takeaway boxes filled with hummus, cacik, imam bayildi (stuffed aubergines), cold beyti kebab, some salads, and flatbread ready to warmed in the oven for good measure. That’s often the situation when we order from Adana 01 in Newington Green." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing
"Green Lanes Grand Parade rightfully gets plenty of attention when it comes to ocakbaşi restaurants, but the Newington Green end shouldn’t be ignored either. As well as a fine lahmacun specialist, you’ll find 01 Adana. Everything from the spiced adana kebabs to their grilled onions is fresh and delicious, while the mercimek corbasi (lentil soup) is a winter essential. The room is big and bright, and open from early morning until midnight, making it a no-brainer when you’re moving in numbers or on your own, and need somewhere delicious to eat." - jake missing, daisy meager, heidi lauth beasley
"Though the term ‘Turkish pizza’ is used commonly enough, it feels like a disservice to a brilliant Middle Eastern dish. That said, 01 Adana’s cheesy lahmacun is an irresistible bit of gooey salty sacrilege. The cheese - of the indeterminable-but-salty-and-excellent-at-melting variety—is an unsurprisingly happy match for a handheld snack with meat and mince. It’s not the best lahmacun in the world anyway and, well, we have been known to throw some chilli sauce shaped fuel into that fire as well." - jake missing
