In a tiny little village, an hour drive away from the biggest town on the isle of Skye, there's this little gem that is Michelin-rated, but really just looks like it's in somebody's house next to a small fishing village.
It was one of the best seafood meals I've ever had in my life, which is huge because I grew up by the sea and had some of the freshest seafood growing up.
The menu looks quaint -- you get a 3-course or a 5-course meal, at a pretty reasonable price. I've travelled too far to get here, so of course I opted for as much food as I can get.
We started with some bites -- fried smelt with aioli, and some bread with smoked fish butter. Then came the first course, "soup and a sandwich". Wow -- it was the best chowder I've had, along with the best grilled cheese with crab... the mister was practically crying with joy; it was his favourite comfort food, just upgraded 100000x. We would've no regrets going home just after this course.
But there's more to come! We had three expressions of scallop. So fresh, and such deliciousness! We then moved on to lobster and bay prawns, and lastly of the savory dishes, the monkfish with asparagus. I'm normally not a fan of monkfish, but here, it was expertly prepared, and tasted so delicate with the asparagus and cream sauce.
Dessert was great as well. The clootie dumpling soufflé was just scrumptious, whereas the assorted desserts had just about all the things -- chocolate, sherbet, candied sugar and cream.
I'm just glad I had a chance to visit this part of the world, and that I took some time to come to this little restaurant. It was unforgettable, and worth every single bite.
