Perfect Sunday roast – the beef was beautifully pink and tender, sitting in a rich, flavourful gravy, and the giant Yorkshire pudding was crisp on the outside and soft inside. Simple plating, but every element was done with real care and the portion was just right. Will definitely be coming back for this roast.

Probably the best Sunday lunch I’ve ever had in Bristol - and there are a lot of other venues to choose from. Everything was seasoned perfectly, generous portion sizes, incredibly attentive team - I’m not sure what’s not to like.

This is an outstanding restaurant. We had a perfect pre-Christmas lunch. A varied menu with a carefully balanced, beautifully cooked choice of dishes. The onglet steak was deliciously tender and full of flavour. The Roquefort sauce and shredded cabbage base complemented roast duck breast perfectly, and both the sweetbread and the tuna starters were both unusual and generous. Exceptionally for us, we had a dessert - a delicately, very creamy flavoured rice pudding. The restaurant was busy but the service was excellent and the bottle of Primitivo recommended by staff was very good and equally good value for money. We thought the bill was surprisingly moderate given the imagination and quality of the cuisine. We'll be back!

1 York Place delivers an excellent dining experience — the food is outstanding, beautifully executed, and clearly crafted with real skill and attention to detail. Every dish feels considered and refined, making it one of those places where you genuinely look forward to each course. The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, but the setting itself could use a little more warmth. The bright lighting and clean, modern design make it feel slightly sterile at times — a touch of softer, low-lit ambience would really elevate the experience and match the quality of the food. Overall, though, it’s a brilliant spot for a well-cooked, confident meal. A few tweaks to the setting and it could easily be one of the city’s best.

A perfect evening at 1 York Place. Me and my partner went last night to celebrate our 7 year anniversary and I’m extremely glad we chose to come here. Chris was our waiter and he was absolutely lovely, every dish was delicious and cooked perfectly and the wine was lovely too. Highly recommend. Whipped cod’s roe, onglet and hake were the highlights but everything was beautiful :)

Bristol, it seems, is getting good for food again. I know, I know – the foodie influencers of the world will tell you it's been great for the past 20 years, but let’s be honest, it dropped off around the same time as the pandemic, which is hardly surprising. Even before that, places were nice but never really managed to pull off the full package: food, service, decor, and that elusive ‘special something’ all in one go. But here’s the thing – in the past week, I’ve eaten in three of Bristol’s best, and I’ll say it straight: none of them missed a step. Including today’s lunch at 1 York Place. To start with, it feels authentic. A neighbourhood restaurant with a bit of swagger but also a reassuring, relaxed air. Not the sort of place where the waiters scowl at you for existing, nor one where they bounce over with a "Hey guys!" and a clipboard. Just a solid, well-run room with people who know what they’re doing. Service? Friendly, efficient, properly trained. And the food? Bang on. We opted for the £35 three-course lunch menu, which, in this economy, is practically charity. Ox cheek croquetas to start, hake with vermouth butter for mains, and a blood orange set cream to finish. The croquetas were textbook: rich, crisp, deeply beefy. The hake was moist, bathed in a silken butter sauce that actually tasted of something rather than just greased the plate. And the blood orange set cream? A perfect balance of sharp, sweet, and smooth – the sort of thing you think you'll just have a spoonful of before realising you’ve scraped the bowl clean and are now eyeing up your companion’s. Frankly, I’d go back for any of those courses alone. The fact that all three landed so effortlessly in one meal is rare enough to be worth shouting about. Bristol, you might just be back in business.

Absolutely fabulous, our first time and looking for a new spot to relax and enjoy. Sunday roast - it did not disappoint, top notch food and service - Izzy was our lady she was second to none - professional, super friendly, super knowledgeable and made us feel at home! We all loved our fabulous food, bar my husband who wouldn’t choose deep fried scallops again. I know there has been a lot of debate about wine storage temperatures in the Uk lately. I appreciate restaurants emulating cooler cellar temperatures for storage. Thankyou. However I am definately not a fan of chilled red wine at the table, as served to me here. My preference is for room temperature when served. Call me old fashioned. We had 2 bottles both equally cold. Also, I think perhaps we were perhaps unlucky.... Last Tuesday evening at precisely 9pm the restaurant went very smeechy ... either someone turned the extraction off too early or there was a slip up in the kitchen.
