We tried this restaurant out for the first time earlier this week. We had reservations and the restaurant was pretty quiet on a Monday evening. There were patrons scattered in different sections of the restaurant. We were very surprised by the size of the place.
From the outside, you can tell it must have previously been used as an office building, but the owners have completely changed that around. Not only is it a nice, cozy, dimly lit restaurant, but it's also massive and includes a covered "outdoor" seating area that is very reminiscent of a house in the village with the ceiling fans, low lighting, wooden fixtures, and the comfort of what felt like someone's living room. The ambiance is very good for a date night, family gathering, or an evening of getting your best mates together to enjoy dinner.
The menu is interesting and has a lot of amazing dishes. While we only got one appetizer on Monday, the appetizers almost sounded like small meals and are definitely shareable ranging anywhere from boerewors and sosaties to mussels and sliced rump steak. We ended up getting the lobster spring rolls which are delicious, just like all the reviews say. The peri-peri aioli goes well with the rolls.
For the main courses, I ordered the cape kingklip which was good but I don't know if I would order again. The fish was good and it was prepared well, but there was nothing "special" about it. It was a milder fish, so therein lies my issue. The mister ordered the catch of the day and his fish came on a bed of Spanish rice with a mango salsa finish and a side of mixed vegetables. His was better. But I digress, the food was quality and cooked very well.
For drinks, I ordered the Cape of Storms - it was okay. They have a good wine selection. The mister ordered a glass of the Neil Ellis "Amica," which happened to be a very refreshing and light wine. I would be interested in trying their Ken Forrester next time. Our server Sean was great. He was also very persuasive. Everything sounded so good when he explained the menu. Overall, he was very informative, hospitable, attentive, and knew his stuff! I'll probably ask for him next time.
I would be interested in going back and trying the different menu items.
