The Best Karaoke Bars In Atlanta - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"If you’ve always wanted to live out your rock star fantasy, this is your time to shine. This VaHi bar sits beneath Dark Horse and hosts karaoke nights (lovingly called Metalsome), where you can sing on stage with a drummer and guitarist shredding behind you. While it’s geared towards metal and rock, there’s more variety than you’d think—even headbangers have love for Kelly Clarkson. Ten High's small, grungy space gets crowded. Get here as soon as they open, or you’ll be waiting in a line out the door to get in." - juli horsford, nina reeder

10 High - Review - Virginia-Highland - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"There are plenty of options in Atlanta for the karaoke crazed, from always packed Monday nights at The Local to intimate private karaoke rooms like Fam-Fam. But the option we like best is 10 High in VaHi because they have a live band and a stage. It’s the closest to partying like a rockstar that we’ll ever get. Although their karaoke nights are named Metalsome and is geared towards metal and rock genres, there’s more variety than you’d think—even headbangers have love for Kelly Clarkson. Just note: it’s a dark, grungy, small space beneath Dark Horse with a single bar and if you don’t get there early (we mean like as soon as they open), you’ll be waiting in a line out the door to get in." - Juli Horsford

The owners are amazing! The bartenders are super friendly and knowledgeable. The band always seems to makes your night better with the plethora of songs they crush and make you feel like you're at a real concert. This place is amazing and if you've never been, you're missing out!

I've been coming to this show for 20 years. They are always inviting, always friendly, and the band always KILLS IT every single show. Jessica and Curt are an amazing duo, and you can tell they put a lot of time, love, and care into this place bc it shows! Shiny Kelly is also always quick to grab you a drink and make you feel welcome as soon as you come in. I've done a lot of karaoke in my life, but this is by far the best experience I've ever had! I try to go as much as possible bc it's that awesome!

Absolutely Love this place! I'm not able to swing by as much as I'd like to but I always come back when I have time. The band is amazing, the bartender is sweet as well as quick managing volume, and the sign up booth accommodates as best they can...everyone wants to be a star.

Google
Hands-down the best karaoke I've ever been to. Had so much fun Friday night that we went back again on Saturday! Definitely arrive early (starts 1030ish).

Google
Cool place. Super cute. But the lady who takes request was super rude. The bartender tonight was Super sweet. KELLY! Thank you. My husband and I bring from Texas and in the hospitality industry combined 26 + years appreciate good souls.

Definitely enjoyed my latest outing there. Atmosphere was great and the entire place was vibing. And the band was awesome. They're always lovely and know how to get the crowd into it

Google
One of my go tos for a great night. On Fridays and Saturdays you will have to show up early if you want to sing. The band is incredible. Only advice I have is to add Lips of an Angle to the list!!

Google
I give 4 stars 💫 only because the price of the drink was expensive, but I had a wonderful time, the people were nice music 🎤 was great and I felt safe too.

Yelp
I love Metalsome! A good friend introduced me to Metalsome four years ago and I have been hooked ever since! Metalsome is a live band karaoke that plays every Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 10 HIGH Club in the basement of Dark Horse Tavern in Virginia Highlands. There is no cover charge. None. It's accessible through Dark Horse, but there's a separate entrance from the street. Doors open at 9 and music starts at 10:30pm. The place gets packed after 11. The band is amazing and engaging. They play for the first 20 minutes or so while waiting for customers to sign up for karaoke. Your first time is free. After that, it's $20 per song. As the name implies, a lot of the songs are metal but not majority of the songs. They also have a good variety of pop rock, punk, alternative, garage, etc. They do not allow men to sing women's songs. There are multiple monitors with lyrics displayed as the song plays. The lead singer of the band, "English Nick" plays backup and will help you if you struggle. It's very interactive. Because the lyrics are displayed on the monitors, the crowd can and will sing along. It always feel like I am at an actual rock concert, minus the moshing and surfing. There is a small, full bar in the back. The bartenders are pleasant and friendly. The drinks are reasonably priced. They usually have a server take orders at the front of the stage and bring the drinks. I love introducing Metalsome to people who have never experienced or heard of it before, especially out-of-town guests. When my sister got married in 2016, I suggested Metalsome to some of our guests and they loved it! Maybe one day I'll muster up the courage to sing on stage. . .

Yelp
Very fun club that does karaoke in a way that I have never seen...with a live band. The singers come from the audience and get on stage. It is a fun time!

Yelp
We met some friends here last night for live band karaoke. It's a fun joint. Typically Saturday nights are rock band karaoke but last night it was Soul band karaoke. Still was fun and a good crowd but was missing the intensity due to the change in music. Last night was a little strange - there was a 90s pub crawl going in and some REALLY drunk people. I had drinks spilled on me multiple times and what convinced us to leave is when a fight broke out in front of the stage. Drinks were thrown and the crowd shoved around. But it is a club and there are always drunk people. But if you like live music/karaoke, definitely check them out!

Yelp
(This review is only for Metalsome): Super talented band!! Dirty dive with warm beer and cold, rockin' women. I love it, but it's not for everyone. The people who work there see such crowds, you really have to become a regular and be great on the mic to get them to give you a little smile and a hug and not sing over you when you know you're doing great. But I still have to pay the crazy rates that everyone else does for a second song. Second duets are even pricier. You've been warned! Enter at your own risk - lol.

Yelp
This is my favorite bar! Not only in Atlanta but in this world. I've been visiting the 10 High for more than 13 years and I will keep coming until I die. The bar staff is the greatest. The live karaoke band is stellar! The tribute nights are amazing! This is a true rock bar. It's in a basement and it's loud but not distorted or sloppy. There is a professional soundman and it sounds like you have your favorite CD on 11! I bring friends from out of town there all the time. They always say we need a 10 High in our city! The 10 High is very special to me for other reason as I met my soul mate there to 11 years ago. I hope to meet you there one day because I know you will keep coming back after your first visit. The 10 High is my home away from home... Btw there is no cover. Where else can you get such great entertainment for FREE!

Yelp
You feel like you're stacked ten high in here. Which can be OK, if that's your thang. Friday night. Our medium sized group arrived well before the band et al. took stage and that wasn't so bad, but as soon as the music was on, brace yourself! We found it to be a little less mosh pit-ish around up against the far corner of the bar/stage. Drinks were good; they make it straight forward by posting a list above the bar of their available beer/liquors. They also offer a drink runner service for those who cannot squeeze towards the bar; a server will walk the edge of the stage with a tablet to take orders. Not sure how to jump on the karaoke sign up list, but I bet the list was loooong. Refreshing to hear not-so-typical song choices.

Yelp
I'm the first to review Metalsome Karaoke on 10 High Club's Yelp page. There are some reviews of it on the Darkhorse page, but that is a separate club upstairs, and the reviews should be here. Metalsome is your chance to sing with a live band. It is not limited to "metal" songs, but all of the songs are rock. The band itself is awesome. I didn't hear them make one mistake during the 4+ hours I was there. I do think they could make the vocals louder, because sometimes the band out-sounds the inexperienced singers like myself. You will be able to see the words to the song you're signing, but unlike traditional karaoke, there is no indication of when you are supposed to sign them. You therefore have to be VERY familiar with the song. Your first song is free. If you want to sing a duet or a second song, you have to pay $20. One rule they don't list on their website is that guys can't sing girl songs, which I find to be sexist and lame, because it doesn't apply the other way around. My biggest criticisms would be (1) it's really smoky, (2) it gets extremely crowded and there seems to be no effort at crowd control, and (3) no one comes around to bus empty drinks, so they are scattered everywhere. Otherwise, I had a blast!

Yelp
Mad fun joint with plenty of sing along dancing even on a Monday night. Wish we had a place this rad anywhere near me.

Yelp
The karaoke staff has definitely changed since I was last there. (Which has been about two years) The song request girl Courtney reserves songs for her friends even though you are first in line. I was told a band member requested the song, however, this guy came from the crowd. I made a comment about his voice to another friend and Courtney proceeded to get in my face and cuss me out. Very professional. We were leaving, literally on our way out because we had never been treated so rudely at an establishment and the bouncer grabbed me by my arm and I have a bruise. Why are you going to grab me when I am walking out? That makes no sense. Three of my friends and I just wanted to go out and have a good night. We have kids and never get to go out. Unfortunately our night was ruined and I will never be back.

Jessica W.

Yelp
The karaoke staff is absolutely horrible! Courtney (the girl who takes request for karaoke) in particular seems to purposely instigate customers with name calling and getting into your personal space. She also chooses the order in which you sing. So if by first judgement she, for some reason, doesn't like you... She'll push you way down the list. As well as save songs that aren't marked off the board for her friends to sing later. However, she'll tell you they are taken when you are the first to sign up. I have never in my life been treated so poorly and with such rudeness at an establishment. If I could give them no stars I would. I've seen a few reviews in regards to the karaoke staff. Maybe if they got rid of her there wouldn't be so many.

Yelp
Came here for karaoke night and was very turned off! The music hostess was extremely rude and off-putting. There was also a flagrant double standard with the karaoke rules stating that "guys cannot sing girl songs" which was rude and sexist. However presented a double standard when they allowed a female to sing a male song. I would not recommend for a night out.

Yelp
What a great time! Get there before the band starts (I think they started at 10) to get in on the front row action and be prepared to defend your spot at all costs! My friends and I snagged a spot up front and center and had the time of our lives. The karaoke singers got to live like rock stars and everyone in the crowd treated them as such while they sang! We all had a great time!

Yelp
The girl in charge of the song registration was unreasonably rude to my girlfriend when she tried to sign up for a duet. She ruined the night for our entire group.
google avatar

Stephanie D.

Yelp
The band was amazing. However the girl in charge of the sign ups was insane and very rude last night. I didn't catch her name but she had on a purple wig and was wearing a tight star dress. My friend and I waited for an hour to sign up for a duet and when it was finally our turn to talk to her, she told me "no, go to the back of the line." I was really confused so I thought she misunderstood me (it was really loud and hard to communicate) so we tried to tell her again which song we wanted and tried to pay the 20 dollar duet fee. She told me to get out of her face and got the bouncer involved. I tried to ask him what I did wrong, but he told me I needed to go to the back of the line and that he didn't know what happened. Meanwhile our boyfriends thought we were about to get on stage and they had ordered us shots to calm our stage fright. But they got the shots returned to them and were told that we were kicked out for no reason. The bouncer also went to them and said the same thing- that we were mistreated for no reason. We later spoke to the manager of the bar. However I don't think anything came of it because purple-wig-girl is probably a member of the band and not an employee of the bar. My friends and I will not be going back to 10 High, but I hope they get their song registration process under control. I still have no idea what set that girl off. She is bad for business and the band would be better off without her. Amazing how one person can ruin a night for an entire group.

Yelp
Was here with a date to hang a bit more after dinner. Crowded! But I can see why. The karaoke band is great! What talent. They also took a moment out to announce that Prince had died. Much appreciated as I wasn't aware until then. Folks were pretty drunk and having a grand time singing karaoke. Floor was kind of gross with a number of items thrown onto the ground. *sigh* I swear though that someone sang a sorta white supremacy song. I was like wtf - am I the only one hearing/reading this? Crazy.

Yelp
Soul karaoke needs to get their mic and lyrics on point . No prob with metalsome but lyrics are outta sync and the guest mic is super low compared to the hosts mic

Yelp
I Usually go up to 10 high karaoke every Wednesday night and sing my favorite two songs that they have. Keep in mind I just started going there in the beginning of March. Beware of the lady named Luna who host the karaoke she likes to attack the customers with insults calling them out of their name all kind of disrespect. Plus she thinks she is a celebrity or some kind of boss and here band backs her up with this silly behavior. Here I am just trying to have fun with my friends and she's on the stage embarrassing me calling me out of my name and all that such talking about I need to do other songs and that's why she's doing it. Last time I was there She do any of songs requested I just had to end up leaving. I spent about 30 bucks every time I go up there at the bar. Sam the bartender Will vouch for everything that she does which is insulting the guest and allows them to sing. Oh yeah and then when I had Approached about her about not playing my songs after putting them in about 2 1/2 hours before she cussed me out and bartender called security but I was already walking out.

Yelp
Very odd experience for New Years Eve. The karaoke was fun, but the DJing in between songs was very odd, and the staff chose to skip through popular songs that everyone was singing along to and listen to niche music ("rap-rave genre") that did not contribute to the New Years Eve environment or make the crowd excited.

Yelp
Metalsome is one of my favorite things to do in Atlanta. Everyone always has a great time: the band, the staff, the crowd, and of course, the singers. One of my favorite things that is they create a true "set list" from the songs people choose so it flows together well, rather than just playing songs in whatever order they get picked the way a typical karaoke night would go. The result is a karaoke night that really feels like being at a rock show. And it only gets better when it's your turn to get on stage... it really does feel like being a rock star! As far as the venue, it can be a little smoky (though last time I was there they had added some extra fans which helped a lot), and it does usually get crowded on weekend nights, but on the plus side that does add to the "rock star" feeling. The staff is great... the bartenders are fast and courteous, and the girls who do the karaoke signups are friendly and make things run smoothly. The drink prices are very reasonable if you want some "liquid courage" before you get on stage. And they don't charge a cover! Ultimately, a night at Metalsome can't really be described; it needs to be experienced firsthand!

Beth M.

Yelp
It's not real karaoke. Expect to pay $20 to sing and your mic won't be on. There's no screen in front of you to see words. Songs are super edited to get people on and off stage quickly.

Erica C.

Yelp
Karaoke staff was rude and unaccommodating. Ruined our night.

Debbie S.

Yelp
This place is so fun!! They have a live band that plays the music to your song of choice and you sing the words. it's really unique and it makes you feel like a. total rock star!

Ashley T.

Yelp
Don't go there if you acually want to do karaoke. Went there last night for my birthday. Stood in line for 45 minutes as sign up "started at 10:30". At 11:07, the sign changed and said '"sign up starts at 12:30". So naturally after waiting for 45 minutes just to sign up, they quickly change it to sign up an hour and a half into the future!?! Outrageous. Then naturally my party and I were ticked off after standing in a mediocre line for 45 mins, and the female running the board confronted us with "Do you have a problem!?", as if waiting in hot spot for 45 mins only to get pushed back another hour and a half wasn't enough to be livid about. Highly unprofessional karaoke staff. Would NEVER recommend this place to anyone.

A D.

Yelp
Workers/bartenders are incredibly surly. Drinks were horrible (right down the street there are bars that put alcohol in their drinks vs all mixers and no booze at ten high), and the people who go there are just awful. Just not a fun place. Plenty of good bars in the area, just go to them instead.
