The Best Coffee Bars in Los Angeles, According to Eater Editors | Eater LA

"This longtime cafe now has four locations throughout Southern California. Whether visiting 10 Speed in Santa Monica or Sawtelle, the coffee is strong and well-made. All the cafe’s locations are solid places to hang out for the day, especially the cozy Calabasas location, which has tall, expansive windows and exposed wood beams. 10 Speed recently expanded further east with a new location in Frogtown along the Los Angeles River." - Mona Holmes

Cute coffee shop in a really neat old building with a great outdoor patio with some beautiful old trees. We got a couple of yummy pastries and coffees and enjoyed breakfast outside. Very cozy and quirky place, would definitely come back.

Google
The first impression of the coffee shop was really cozy and beautiful. It’s connected to the restaurant Pedalers Fork. The coffee was good, but honestly, the prices felt way too high for what it was. After we got our coffee and sat down, we wanted to order food, but they told us we had to go back to the hostess first before we could even order. It felt super inconvenient, so we just decided not to order anything else. If you’re combining a coffee shop and a restaurant, it would be nice to make the experience a bit more comfortable and easy for guests.

Long time fan of 10Speed. Every location is great though personal fave is Calabasas one. Love that they roast upstairs there. Drinks are great and staff is very nice.

Google
10 Speed Coffee is a hidden gem tucked behind Calabasas Rd in a quiet little nook--not exactly the kind of place you'd stumble upon unless you're lost or in-the-know. It's a sleek, cozy spot, but the two entrances make the line feel like a choose-your-own-adventure-especially when it's busy and the baristas are working at lightning speed. The back patio is where this place really shines--shaded, peaceful, and centered around a small decorative pond that adds a surprisingly zen vibe. It's ideal for a first date, a quiet work session, or tossing around big ideas (my wife and I treat it like our unofficial creative office-slash-people-watching HQ). The cortado? Strong, smooth, and Cuban-grandma approved--which is a gold standard in my book. The avocado toast is a sleeper hit: arugula, sesame seeds, cucumber, a dash of spice--it's basically an edible spa day. Now, about those ceiling heaters. They're always on in the mornings and will slowly roast you like a free-range chicken. You can ask to have them turned off, but it becomes a weird social dance with the table next to you--do they want it off? Are you the problem? Still, between the strong coffee, great food, and tranquil vibes, it's a solid spot. Just bring a fan... or maybe a rotisserie timer.

Google
The serene outdoors on the coffee the food is just weird ordering or like no direction or sign and the staff was too busy to notice my confusion. But that food was amazing and one I understood what to do everyone was lovely

Google
Love the coffee shop - baristas not so much. Been giving them the benefit of the doubt but more than a couple of times I wait for them to stop talking to each other (socially not work related) in order to place an order and then seem upset once I do order. They usually don’t call out the latte or names since I’ve gone there so I have to make sure to look at the coffee bar to ensure that my coffee is ready. Otherwise, the coffee is good and great place to study. Unfortunately I won’t be coming back :/

Google
Great place to grab a cup of coffee in Old Calabasas. Super helpful staff who know their coffee, utterly fast service and a very cool spot - sort of an oasis type thing that you would not expect from the exterior. Breakfasts looked very good - and a ver fashionable crew dinning in the combo bike shop-bar-restaurant. Sounds strange - but it works!

Stopped for coffee break. Such a great coffee taste. It’s been years since I started going to this cafe. Every guests I introduced satisfied with coffee flavor. Definitely for coffee lover spot

Yelp
10 Speed Coffee is officially one of my must stops when visiting the San Fernando Valley. Walking into this café feels special as the ambiance is unlike any coffee shop that I've been to before, offering a bike shop, bar, and cafe hybrid interior surrounded by beautiful green in a comforting open space. The ambiance here is unmatched. If they had one of these in San Diego, I'd surely become a daily regular to get work done or study. There is plenty of room, and the space is simply beautiful - it makes getting work done that much more rewarding. The drinks are tasty - especially the maple lattes (both iced and hot are delicious). The baristas steam the milk to perfection and pour excellent shots. The drinks taste artisan and hand crafted by baristas who care about the product they make. They do not offer too many flavors or drink options, but sometimes less is more. The pasties are also good. I will be honest and say they did not blow me away and that getting a pastry isn't a must get when I visit this spot - but a sweet treat is always fun to get. The entire experience from start to finish feels special. The prices are steep, even being a bit expensive for me (coffee is a huge part of my budget). However, I am willing to pay for the experience offered. I can understand if this deters people from becoming regulars. Also, the line can get long, and the set up for the line can make the bar area feel too congested. Parking is fine, though the roads leading to the café can be confusing (I'm a San Diego driver, so forgive me lmao). But again, the trouble of getting here is well worth the wait. Kiley was incredibly kind and made me a delicious latte on my first visit. I wish that I remembered the name of the barista who helped me on my last visit, but it's apparent that service is a huge plus. 4.7/5 rounded up to a 5. I can only imagine how much cozier this spot gets when it's cold, raining, or when winter hits. Stay tuned for an updated review.

Yelp
When arriving to 10 Speed Coffee, the parking was great, plenty of spaces to park! The vibes of the coffee shop were awesome! The decor was amazing, if you love bikes then this is a great place to grab a bite and a coffee to relax! The seating was also plentiful! We ordered an iced vanilla latte and a chocolate chip walnut cookie. The coffee was very creamy and delicious! We loved that you could actually taste the vanilla flavor too! The cookie was also very tasty especially with the walnuts! The prices were also very reasonable! The service was good, employees were friendly! This place is definitely on our top list of coffee shops to come back to!

Yelp
Interesting coffee shop + bar + bike shop combination in a ranch-style building just south of the highway. Parking is plentiful in a large lot, and a valet comes out to help organize as it becomes full. Street parking is available around as well. Atmosphere 3.5 out of 5: The coffee shop portion is when you first enter, with a bunch of booth tables and high chair/tables. There's even a loft area up a ladder. We arrived relatively early, and there were already a couple of people starting their day there. We enjoyed the quiet morning atmosphere as the sun rose - though there was an absence of electric outlets (or maybe we just couldn't find them). I liked how the sit-down area was distinct from the ordering area, so you were able to work at a distance from people ordering near the front. Service 4.5 out of 5: You order at the counter at the front, and the ladies working made our orders super quick. There isn't a water station, but they were happy to fill a cup up for us. Tables are self-bussed. Food 4 out of 5: Good coffee and tea overall - nothing incredibly special but definitely above average. The pastry I ordered was also good. Value 4 out of 5: Average pricing overall for a coffee shop. I would recommend this coffee shop overall as a well balanced start to the morning if you're in the area!

Yelp
Cute little coffee shop, hidden inside Pedalers Fork, past the bar. Theres some outdoor seating available next to the bike repair shop. Interesting find! The coffee was fine. I saw they also had a small selection of muffins and pastries ( I was also visiting around 2pm so they might have had more in the AM). Service was friendly.

Yelp
Open early with strong coffee! Such a cute location with friendly folks I had a drip coffee and it hit the spot, great beans. The everything filled croissant is the bomb. Like literally a bomb of crumbs and seeds everywhere when you eat it. Always a great sign of a good pastry

Yelp
Mya helped answer all of our coffee questions! She was very helpful and very sweet. We got a hot matcha and an iced matcha and they were both fantastic. The matcha flavor was amazing!! The vibes were on point. Great place to get coffee and pastries with friends and a great place to work! Very cute outdoors seating area too!!

Yelp
I love it here , the ambiance is so chill, if you are a bike fan it's the place to be. The service was good as well. I did not try the food , I only had coffee here. Overall I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Yelp
The coffee and pastries are A1 and to die for! Coffee is of superb quality and taste. I'm quite the coffee snob being a former barista myself and cafe definitely takes pride in picking their beans. As for the baristas and skills...super professional, and skilled. I'm kinda sad my Rosetta photo didn't come out because it was exceptionally pretty. Atmosphere is beautiful inside the restaurant seating and coffee bar area. Only issue I had with this place is most of all the seating is for the restaurant -___- Calabasas can be very chilly in the early morning being that it's near the beach and mountain range area of the SFV. Lots of parking but it does fill up quickly because of the restaurant.

Yelp
Another awesome latte from 10 SPEED COFFEE. Strong roast. A full latte is good with their beans. The line to order isn't that long - still inside the cafe - AND it went by quickly. The location is convenient (close to the freeway exit) and the area and space is definitely more tranquil than most. There's a lot of chairs and tables to sit down in.

Yelp
Meeting a friend for coffee and conversation with an option for outdoor seating and available free parking in early morning (7:15 meet up). 10 Speed seemed a good place to try (parking lot behind the restaurant). Short line to place our order. Just coffee for me, latte for my buddy. Small selection of bakery style munchies to go with the coffee. We each went with a blueberry muffin. Total cost was around $20. My coffee was very flavorful (not bitter at all). And the muffin was delish. The cafe itself is very high ceilings with nicely spaced tables. I guess they have free internet access since literally everyone else having coffee at that hour was working on their laptops. When the tables started to fill up, we moved out to the patio on the side of the cafe. Lovely setting away from the street and parking area.

Yelp
Continuing the quest for the ultimate chai latte! The positives first... folks working here are friendly and kind, which is helpful considering the number of folks in line for coffee/ tea. The staff is also making drinks for the restaurant so a good attitude goes a long way. Now the chai latte review... ordered a chai with oat milk ...it was hot . Sprinkle of cinnamon on top was a nice touch. That's about it for flavor, though . No spice, I mean it was like drinking hot oat milk with cinnamon, nothing more. Be prepared to wait in a Sat morning, and credit cards only are accepted. Parking can be difficult as the Farmers market is happening at this time.

Yelp
**Matcha Magic at 10-Speed Coffee in Calabasas!** If you find yourself in Calabasas and craving a chill spot to sip and relax, 10-Speed Coffee is where you need to be! This cozy café perfectly blends a love for cycling with a passion for exceptional drinks. I went for their matcha latte, and wow, it was a game-changer! Smooth, creamy, and perfectly balanced, each sip was a little moment of happiness. Inspired by the deliciousness, I whipped out my journal and dove into a blissful writing session. The vibe at 10-Speed Coffee is just right. The cycling-themed decor adds a cool, quirky touch, and the seating areas--indoors and out--are super inviting. Here's the fun part: as I started journaling, I noticed that my matcha latte, cell phone, and water bottle all matched in color! It felt like the universe had conspired to create the perfect, Insta-worthy moment. The staff here are absolute gems--friendly, welcoming, and always ready with a smile. Whether you're a cyclist taking a break or someone just looking for a peaceful place to hang out, this café is a winner. In short, 10-Speed Coffee in Calabasas is a must-visit. The matcha latte is a standout, and the whole experience is pure joy. Don't miss out on this awesome spot! ‍

Yelp
6.3/10 Coffee has a super bitter taste. I got a vanilla iced latte with an extra shot. The vanilla has a strange flavor. It's not that it was bad. It was just okay. Wouldn't go back though. The shop itself is cute though.

Yelp
Trekked over to Calabasas for some coffee. Really good coffee being served here at 10 Speed Coffee. Menu is pretty simple and straightforward. Ended up picking up a cup of their Iced Vanilla Latte. Coffee was very good and strong. Will definitely be coming back for some more coffee. Service was great and fast. Place is small and gets very busy.

Yelp
This spot is a must stop whether you're at the farmers market or just passing through the area! The baristas are sweet and patient. They are helpful in helping decide what drink would be best for your preferences! I love chai but not all chai is the same. I love a spiced chai and theirs is one of my favorites. The inside space is beautiful too! They roast their beans on sight which is such a neat thing to watch!
google avatar

Blairr E.

Yelp
Would give 7 stars if I could! The ambiance by the creek is fantastic. For a quieter scene, I recommend Mondays because the neighboring restaraunt, pedalers fork is practically empty! This is the only place I have found that hand whisks their matcha and it never disappoints. I always get mine iced with plant based milk and maple syrup. The maple and matcha compliment each other well! The price of the drink is well worth it for the care and preparation, as well as the high quality of the matcha. I could die here and I'd be okay with it. Everyone is really friendly. No matter how busy they are, I always feel like care and preparation in put into my beverage
google avatar

Yelp
Best coffee on this side of the valley! Super friendly baristas and I love the way the coffee shop is tucked away in the back of a restaurant. The coffee is strong, I usually get a cortado. My husband and friends like the iced matcha lattes. The flavored syrups are always good and home made. I love that you can always grab your drinks to go or have them prepared in a mug and sit down and enjoy the cafe . Great place if you are in calabasas area

Yelp
Located in the backdoor of Pedalers Fork in Old Town Calabasas, this original flagship 10 Speed Coffee is a great little escape to get your morning Joe and enjoy some great conversation under a two-wheeled landscape. This location is where they micro-batch roast all of their own coffee - and it shows. The coffee is bold, extremely flavorful and delicious. The staff is very friendly and delivers the caffeine quickly. 10 Speed Calabasas offers a few small bite options, but if you need to refill after a long ride, the kitchen at Pedlars Fork can deliver a hearty meal to carb load or even evening drinks on the outdoor patio. There is even a full-service bike shop to get your chains lubricated, should you need extra attention. Check out 10 Speed Calabasas for Cycling Nirvana.
google avatar

Isabel B.

Yelp
Amazing coffee but sometimes it can be inconsistent. I try not to go when there is a long line of people (usually Saturdays at brunch time). However, the baristas are always very patient and nice. The location is very nice although you should note that the cafe is towards the back entrance as the front is a restaurant/local brunch spot.
google avatar

Rose B.

Yelp
Love this place! I've only come for coffee and a pastry, but I am completely satisfied every time I come here. Such a cute ambiance and the coffee is very good.
google avatar

Karlyn B.

Yelp
The menu didn't seem too flattering but there are quite a lot that they would accommodate especially when you have a picky 13 year old. I had the crab cake Benedict and it was beautiful. There was so much flavor and as you can see, the eggs are very orange which means the chickens they come from eat a healthy diet of plants and protein.
google avatar

Katie O.

Yelp
This place is so cute! There is free valet parking which makes it super easy. My friend and I got a vanilla latte almond croissant and a matcha! The line was long but it went super fast. Would love to come back again!
google avatar

Liza K.

Yelp
Very cool coffee shop in Old Calabasas. There's plenty of seating indoor and out at various heights including bar tops. The aesthetic is unique and peaceful, with lovely shaded patio and lots of plants and decor to look at while you sip on your coffee. There is a bike shop in the back which is cool to see and also a loft where it appears they roast their coffee in house. Will definitely be back and possibly bring my dog and work on their patio!

Sam S.

Yelp
At this point I have been to all 3 10 speed locations in LA county and wanted to give my final review out of all 3. This location is the best! My usual order is the vanilla latte. The barista was super helpful and kind so I appreciate them explaining to me the different drinks and how they are made. The drink itself was perfect amount of coffee and vanilla. The sweetness was perfect and the ice was solid. Love this location and highly recommend it!
google avatar

Udi S.

Yelp
10 Speed Coffee is a hidden, unique spot with a big aroma! If you want quality coffee, a great vibe, and pleasant people behind the desk, this is the place to be. They put great attention to every drink they serve. You must try it!
google avatar

Elias S.

Yelp
Is this the best coffee spot? No. Will it suffice? Yes. The staff didn't have the best service but it had caffeine that can get you through your day.
google avatar

Gohar K.

Yelp
Really delicious cold brew. Love stopping by during my trip to the farmers market on Saturdays. A nice cold cup of coffee and farmers market, what more can you ask for. Great location Great service Great coffee and sweets Great ambiance
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
The place has a great location and great garden view or beautiful patio seating. I had the steak sandwich and my wife had burger and both were delicious. The French fries were amazing. If you try one time this place you will definitely will be back.
google avatar

Chavet H.

Yelp
Such a great place to grab breakfast and relax in their wonderful atmosphere! The drinks were so good that I would even stop in a gran ie to go. The chai tea latte was great, not too sweet and not overly spicy, just how I like them!

Mike S.

Yelp
Good stuff here. Bikes are cool. Rad there's a bike shop there. Loves the margarita pizza.
google avatar

Victoria M.

Yelp
Fun little pitstop for cyclists in the Santa Monica Mountain area that even has a bike shop and repair shop inside! I was just passing through after having lunch across the street and decided to check it out. There is a cute seating area outside where we sat with our dog while enjoying a mocha and iced latte. There were also people working remotely with their laptops. Vibey and cool atmosphere; we'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Sasha F.

Yelp
They make a nice matcha latte! My favorite pastry is their pop tart. The service is quick and professional. They keep the line moving!
google avatar

Diondra B.

Yelp
Cute coffee shop tucked away. Theme is biking, so they have a lot of bikes everywhere. I got the pumpkin poptart, which I enjoyed.

Kylie H.

Yelp
What's not to love?! Amazing matcha/coffee and even better service. Sean is always amazing and has such great energy. Best cappuccino and matcha in the valley!!!

Madeline B.

Yelp
Really cool coffee shop! Lots of seating and unique designs! Located near a cute western town for shopping. Coffee is expensive but worth it if you want to enjoy the atmosphere for awhile. I ordered an avocado toast and loved it as well!

Yelp
Drinks (selection): 5/5 Food (quality): 4/5 Friendliness: 3/5 Ambiance: 5/5 Workability: 4/5 Overall: 80/100 This place looks amazing with a tree-surrounded patio, wooden beams, and vaulted ceilings with a cycling theme running through. Workability is also great except for not having enough outlets. Food would be improved if they warmed up the pastries. Baristas are great if you are a regular.

haneul j.

Yelp
The barista recommended maple latte and it was a HIT! the coffee flavor is strong along with sweet maple syrup. The perfect combo! My new favorite coffee shop for sure!
google avatar

Michal G.

Yelp
This was my first time trying an iced matcha latte and it was honestly the best coffee I've had in quite awhile. Definitely recommend trying this cute coffee shop and the prices are pretty decent.
google avatar

James O.

Yelp
Atmosphere was great, location quant...but my humble opinion cashier girl kinda dry & haughty, I've been to Kenya & Tanzania visited coffee plantations...when I asked for Region of drip, she looked at me as if I didn't know what the hek I was talking about...so I differed to barista (very knowledgeable & friendly) Would I return...only if I'm in the area, I will not go out of my way! 2.90 but to be fare Coffee 3.25

Alexandria B.

Yelp
This is the cutest little coffee shop. One of the best places to get work while being outside. The food is great. Very small menu but EVERYTHING is amazing. The coffee is delicious and reasonably priced. Everyone one is super friendly & it's never a long wait.
google avatar

Celeste R.

Yelp
Very good for the maple latte the barista said it was most popular and I see why it's amazing. It's definitely a sweet treat so if you don't like your coffee sweet I'd recommend getting it 1/2 sweet but I loved it how it was. 10/10 recommend and there's a super cute restaurant and bar inside
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
Very cool vibes. Laid back and friendly service. The almond milk latte was both beautiful and delicious.I enjoyed the coconut chamomile tea was refreshing. The scones looked like a work art
google avatar

Terri C.

Yelp
10 Speed Coffee is our go-to for caffeine when we're in Calabasas. The pastries are always fresh, the lattes are tasty, and they open early. My latest visit was to fuel up before a hike in Malibu and I'm always so grateful when coffee shops open for early birds like myself. 10 Speed Coffee opens at 6am-- thank you! The staff is friendly and I'm always happy with whatever I get there.
google avatar

Amy S.

Yelp
The coffee I got at 10 speed was really good. Surprisingly. I felt as though the service could be better. It was just okay. I, too, work in food service on weekends and I try to be helpful when people come to me for the first time. There's also a restaurant connected to it. We tried to get breakfast as well but once we sat, nobody came to greet us and the QR code wasn't working for us. We spent about 10 mins sitting and trying to make it work. We ended up leaving shortly after that because all the employees were huddled up and talking amongst each other. Other than that, the place actually looks cool and interesting which is the reason for going in the first place.
google avatar

Blaise H.

Yelp
10 Speed is my favorite coffee shop in all of the valley (or in all of anywhere really). The iced vanilla latte with oat milk is perfection. I have never had anything better. Aside from the delicious drinks, they have pastry's as well as being located in a restaurant (peddlers fork) with an entire breakfast menu. It's always fun to stop by 10 Speed during the farmers market right outside on Saturdays!
google avatar

Nick A.

Yelp
I just needed a place to meet someone for coffee. I didn't realize 10-Speed Coffee was a full-on restaurant. Outside it's super non-descript. I thought I'd be walking into a coffee place but WOW, this place is awesome! Coffee seems to be the last thing on the menu here. It's actually a legit place to eat. I was only there for coffee so I felt bad not getting anything to eat but our server was cool and didn't mind we just had tea. It's a really nice atmosphere. It has a bit of a garden, outdoorsy feel. I saw some bikes for sale in the front area, so I guess you can actually get a ten-speed with your order if you want. There's parking available but I parked on the street. Not sure if there's a charge for parking or not. This is a great place to meet someone for a coffee, a meal, and a nice chat. Their hours are 6 am-3 pm every day. What a cool place. You can't go wrong here!
google avatar

Lisichka K.

Yelp
Great place! The trees outside make it feel very cozy and natural. I ordered a matcha from the coffee shop, but it tasted like water, so I deducted a star. However, the atmosphere here is fantastic. I'll definitely come back to try something else.
google avatar

Tumi M.

Yelp
Awesome peaceful vibe coffee shop with great coffee and friendly baristas. What I can say I would expect from a Calabasas cafe. The back patio has many secluded tables and it's easy to find a place to duck off and get some work done on a laptop or have a cup with a friend.
