The Best Places To Eat In DeKalb Market Hall - New York - The Infatuation

"This stall keeps their Fuzhounese and Cantonese food simple. You just choose your meat (duck, bbq pork, chicken, or crispy pork) and it’s served over noodles or rice. We prefer the rice combo, because it comes with bento box portions of meat, steamed rice, broccoli, a hard boiled egg, and a mini bun. The $4 curry fish balls are also worth trying. There’s rarely a line during lunch, so sneak over to this sleeper hit while everyone else is getting their soup at Hana Noodle (see below)." - neha talreja, will hartman, bryan kim, willa moore

Google
I’d recommend this to anyone looking for a quick and tasty lunch for good value. I got the soy sauce chicken rice bowl, which was simple but very well-prepared — juicy, succulent and flavorful chicken, very fresh vegetables, and half a boiled egg over a bed of white rice, that’s complemented well by the scallion condiment they provide on the side. It also comes with a small dessert bun (either red bean or egg custard) which was the perfect way to round out the meal. And it was a decent price considering all the food and the quality of the meal!

Google
I absolutely adore the pork dumplings here! 🥰✿ It’s a cozy little spot right in front of Trader Joe’s, where you’ll find the sweetest ladies—both young and old—taking your orders. I can’t wait to come back and enjoy more delicious dumplings!

When you spend your money on buying food from a restaurant or take out, it's important to know what kind of people are cooking and serving your food. I'm leaving this review because I visit this food hall about 1-2 times a week. I've eaten here a few times and the food is. . . okay. Out of all the delicious food at this court, there are better options worth your money. But the main reason of this review, is today I visited Mr Lins, and while I didn't buy lunch this time, I needed a fork and asked kindly if they had an extra fork or pair of chopsticks. The woman behind the counter, standing in front of a pile of plastic forks and cheap wooden chopsticks, replied, "no. For customers only." You can say this is fair response, but it's worth noting that I don't think any business is worth supporting that wouldn't help someone out in such a small way, and to be rude about it at that. I went over to wok fusion kitchen, and they gladly gave me a fork with no hesitation. I guess this is more a review for the sake of character only, but worth noting and definitely worth thinking about when choosing a business to support.

Google
Delicious food. I got the roast chicken over rice. The bun included is a sweet bun. So dinner and a dessert. The sauce included was some ginger, lemongrass? oil concoction that I drizzled over the veg. No soy sauce included but it's not like it was needed anyway. Simple but delicious and filling.

Google
The food was really good, and it was even better with the sauces they provide in the side. I order the Char Siu bowl, and I added the ginger sauce they provided and it was so good. The bowl comes with steamed veggies, sweet pork, white rice, a boiled egg, and an egg custard mini bun. It was very filling, I would recommend to anyone!!

Google
We've been coming for years and love this place and their rice noodle soups! Everyone is so nice and they have the best prices in Dekalb market! I recommend the fire meat (Huo Rou) with fishball rice noodle soup! Find them in the back by trader joes!

Google
Horrible. I have no other words to describe how bad this place was. The price really dictates what you should expect. I ordered a wonton soup, peanut noodles, and char siu yellow noodle soup. Everything tasted bland, the noodles were overly soggy, the pork had no depth of flavor, there was one teaspoon of peanut sauce on the peanut noodles, the broth was basically salty water, etc. I would understand that for a cheap meal you could get around with something quick with only a few ingredients but there’s no excuse to have such a bad product with also bad costumer service. Just an overall horrible experience. This is probably the one stand at Dekalb Market that I would NOT return to.

Google
I had there duck before and it was alright at that time it was $7 dollars for a serving. I had the duck today and the price for 1 serving was 8+ tax so one serving was $9.25. They give me 3 small pieces of duck for $9.25.

Yelp
First time dining here after always walking by. Wasn't impressed with the dumplings. The taro boba was tasty. Located in the basement level of the shipping plaza in the food court right in-front of Trader Joe's. The dumplings need a new wrap recipe, the flap part was too hard like it was over/under cooked. I like authentic soft dumplings. I'm not sure how they prepare them but need updating. The taro was tasty and made with non dairy creamer. I chose tapioca as classic topping. Best thing I had. The taro and brilliant costumer service saved the review. I'll one day try other menu items but not anytime soon.

Yelp
Slightly tucked away (near Trader Joe's) in Dekalb Market, this place has delicious authentic Chinese food. The char siu is very tender and flavorful, and the portion is enough to keep me full and satisfied. I also got the wonton soup which had a lot of wontons and some greens. The wonton skin was thin and slightly chewy in a good way. They have lots of other platter options that I'll definitely come back for!
google avatar

Ro R.

Yelp
Okay service was good, but food was disappointing. I asked for wonton and fish ball soup only, but they gave me noodle soup instead and didn't like the fact I got noodles and they weren't good. C got the char siu and she advised it wasn't good.
google avatar

Leilanie E.

Yelp
The wonton soup here is amazing! It isn't like other Chinese restaurants with the yellow broth and super thick wonton noodles. The wonton wrappers are perfectly thin and the broth is delicious. The wonton soup also comes with a few pieces bok choy and broccoli. There is a generous amount of wontons included (about ten).

Yelp
Wandered around the market hall and found this place in the back. Thought it was decent and fast Chinese takeout food. I got the Char Siu over rice bowl and the Curry Fishballs. Rice bowl was good -- they actually had the bright red char siu that I'm used to getting from my local Chinatown butcher shops. It also comes with a steamed roll, vegetables, and an egg. Really solid meal combo and filling. The curry fishballs were also good for an additional snack to share with another person. Overall I enjoyed it, and they were efficient and didn't have too much of a line when we went. Definitely go check them out!
google avatar

Jessica M.

Yelp
Wonton soup was phenomenal. Made fresh with fresh broccoli. I had to wait for it as they cooked it but we'll worth it for a fresh soup that wasn't overly salty.

Yelp
Was looking for something new in Dekalb Market and stumbled on Mr. Lin. Its really tucked away near the trader joes. I ordered their 3 meats bowl. I dont eat pork so my only options with the soy chicken and roast duck. I got 2 portions of duck and one of chicken. I will say the 3 meats bowl isnt actually a bigger portion of meat than the single meat bowls its just you get variety. It comes with rice a boiled egg and some veggies (bok choy and broccoli). It was simple and delicious both meats were flavorful and tender the roast duck especially. I sort of wish the boiled egg was seasoned or something but besides that I was pretty happy.
google avatar

Leilani S.

Yelp
This place is hidden and all the way in the back over by Trader Joe's. Was craving a boba and decided to give this place a shot. Got the strawberry tea and a mango tea and they were both sooo good and not too too sweet. The mango is sweeter than the strawberry. Workers are nice and not bad for about $5 each.

Yelp
Guess who needed some noodles because again, noodles solve all of life's problems? Decided to treat myself to roast pork noodles for dinner- again, super good noodle soup, topped with broccoli, bok choy and pieces of roast pork. The roast pork was very tender and juicy, and the skin was crispy as well! A satisfying meal for a good price ($10.80+tax)
google avatar

Grace L.

Yelp
It's a little hard to find because it's hidden in the Dekalb market hall. It's surrounded by closed shops, so it's not obvious that they're open. But it's on the side closer to Trader Joe's. The service was super nice and pretty fast! Huo ruo rice bowl ($15) - this comes with crispy pork belly, broccoli, rice, an egg, and a bun. It feels very home-y, though I would never be able the recreate the crispiness of their pork belly. It's not a big meal, but definitely enough to fill you.
google avatar

Shashi R.

Yelp
Mid range quality Chinese food in the food court of Albee Square Mall. Located in the basement near to the exit of trader Joe's. Noodles with peanut sauce 7/10 Wonton soup 7/10 Xiao Long Bao 6/10 (no soup inside) It's more worth it if you go through the seated app and do pickup. https://seated.app.link/LpBEkFrNT3

Danyang Z.

Yelp
We frequently order take out from here. It's always ready in 10-15 min and the noodles are yummy! I also like their wonton egg drop soup as well.
google avatar

Irene L.

Yelp
If you are looking for healthy and not oily Chinese cuisine check out this spot. The food is made fresh and it taste good. It is not heavily seasoned and not overly salty. I ordered the curry chicken with rice and the curry was creamy and delicious. Not greasy and they added some freshly steamed broccoli. Service was fast and friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
Way at the back of the hectic food court that is Dekalb Market, sits this unassuming gem. Super tasty and authentic duck, chiashu, and/or fish ball soups (or over rice) with big crunchy pieces of fresh broccoli and Bok Choi. And plenty of other tasty things at very reasonable prices for the quality. Super solid noodle joint.
google avatar

Lilli S.

Yelp
Solid rice bowls with reasonable portions of well seasoned meet (I got the ginger soy chicken), fresh broccoli and bok Choi, a boiled egg, and a delicious, rolly-polly, almost soft-pretzel-tasting steamed bun. The sauce that was drizzled over the bowl was savory, not to salty, and just enough to coat the rice without drowning it. Though I could easily eat this every night for dinner, I am looking forward to trying some of their flour noodle soups next time. The shop is tucked away from the noise and not crowded at all with respect to the rest of the vendors within the dekalb market.

Nicholas C.

Yelp
This is a great spot to pick up authentic Chinese food after work, but it's slightly overpriced for what it is. I usually get the roast duck or char siu rice bowl along with the vegetable dumplings, which comes out to around $20. Bowls are always fresh and well seasoned, but the sauce can be a bit too salty for my liking. Will definitely continue coming here, but wish the bowls had more protein and less rice ;)
google avatar

Suanne L.

Yelp
100% Mr Lin serves authentic Chinese food, more Cantonese and FuZhou style than Szechuan (i.e. Han Dynasty) which fills a needed gap in the DeKalb Market space. For $7, you can get a pretty solid wonton noodle soup. They also serve barbecued meats over rice and fish balls. Overall, the menu is short, but very affordable compared to the rest of DeKalb Market. Today I got a wonton noodle soup. The soup base is clear chicken broth, flavored with scallions and ginger. This is a much cleaner noodle soup than at Han or at Hana. The noodles and wontons are cooked well, springy, so it is important to eat them ASAP. The wontons, while it says mini on the menu, really are mini and a bit disappointing just due to size. But the flavor is on point and the price is fantastic. I would 100% love an option to add extra veggies or a soy sauce egg on top. Looking forward to trying more of the menu!
google avatar

Sarah T.

Yelp
I had some soup dumpling. It was tasty, but there wasn't much soup inside, and the dumpling itself was thick. I'll probably try something else at some point, though.
google avatar

Tiffany L.

Yelp
Not bad but not great either. If you're craving for Chinese bbq meat, I recommend getting the roasted duck over rice dish which comes with an egg and steamed bao. It's good comfort food but overpriced and not enough of the good stuff (meat). Would consider it a 4 star establishment if they added more protein to the rice dishes :)
google avatar

Marisa M.

Yelp
Love love this place. I wanted to try this for a while. What steal, great noodle soup for 9 dollars?!?! Mmm so delicious and a huge portion. I got the wonton noodle soup which had 8 pork wontons and a ton of noodles in it. Plus broccoli and bockchoy. The noodles were so fresh tasting and the wontons had a great texture and taste too. The broth was like a warm hug. Could have easily split this with another person. I would definitely come back again. And on a cold rainy fall/winter day when you just want some good soup to warm your soul come here! Super yummy.
google avatar

Mel B.

Yelp
Ordered the char siu plate. It was delicious, but I wish there was more meat. I asked for no rice and they easily obliged for that and my request for steamed veggies (broccoli and bok choy). The total came to $13.60. Loved the little plain bun that came with it. Overall great meal.
google avatar

Tina D.

Yelp
Do not order from here. While eating my soup and noodles, I found a nail in there. So disgusting and wild!! It's covid - use some gloves!!!!!!
google avatar

Mimee S.

Yelp
One day i was feeling for something soupy and was glad i stumbled upon this place after coming out of Trader Joes. I've tried the roast duck over noodle soup. Duck was really tasty and not to mention they deboned it for you, which is a plus. Noodle was cooked right, the only thing i didn't like was the goji berries in the soup but that's just a personal preference. Their spicy peanut noodles was tasty too! It was actually the cheapest item on the menu that got me full when I didn't want such a big lunch.
google avatar

Helena D.

Yelp
This was just incredible. Go for the wonton soup, the wontons are clearly freshly made, tender, and exactly like I had them for the year I lived in Beijing. Next time I go for a supermarket run to Trader Joe's, I'll make sure to stop here.
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered at 715pm 8/18/20 one plate fried dumpling and one plate curry chicken. Took bag home and opened bag - got steam dumpling and watered down tasteless curry chicken. Not cool at all. They close at 745pm. I didn't even get a receipt since it's from the cashier outside...... Will not be going back
google avatar

Nhi D.

Yelp
A lack-luster food counter down the Dekalb food court. This restaurant offers basic Chinese rice and noodles bowls(fish ball, wonton, char siu, duck, roast pork and chicken). I ordered a char siu rice noodle and got mine almost instantly. It seems like verything was prepared and pre-packaged. The char siu was bland, lacking its quintessential red color. The broth was also lacking flavor. I paid $9.5 for the bowl yet wasn't satisfied for the quality and portion. With $9.5 in Chinatown I could get a pound of char siu to-go and eat for several meals.
google avatar

Wendrich J. M.

Yelp
One of the best spots you can find within Dekalb Market Hall. The food is very simple, clean and delicious. They go with traditional Chinese food, without many spices and blah blah. Straight to the comfort food experience, it will remind you of home. I recommend chicken over rice, the peanut noodles, fish balls, and wonton noodle soup. But their menu has a lot of choices, feel free to ask and explore. Prices are super affordable, 100% MR. Lin is really a must go. When I don't feel like cooking which is most of the time...this is my happy place.
google avatar

Bo B.

Yelp
Highly disappointed with my Huo Rou. The description is crispy pork belly, but what I got was soggy, wet, rubbery skin.
google avatar

Colton B.

Yelp
Hidden in the far reaches of Dekalb Market, 100% is exactly what you would expect. It's not Asian fusion and it's not American proportions either. It's 100% Chinese food. 100% Mr Lin if you will. I ordered the Char Siu Platter for my introductory experience. It was Dekalb Market pricing ($17) which seems a bit steep for the aforementioned authentic proportions. My western palate was most amused with the marshmallow-like texture of the "mini bun" included in the platter. Nothing was particularly "wrong" with my dining experience but I found myself wanting more (not only regarding proportions). I plan to return to Mr Lin for an alternate dish to fully explore its various offerings.
google avatar

Shiyu L.

Yelp
Ordered street noodles with peanut butter sauce. It's pretty good actually with reasonable price. Definitely will come back and try other things.
google avatar

Sheynelle S.

Yelp
I had the Huo Rou, which has crispy pork in it. It was crispy and salty and yummy. The broth had some heat to it but I could have used even more. It's very simple and clean, I personally enjoyed my food. The broccoli was perfectly cooked, I had rice noodles in mine. For the price, it's a great meal! I only paid $11 and I was completely full. Also, I ordered and literally 1 minute later the food was ready to go!

Indigo C.

Yelp
This is my favorite Chinese fast food place in Brooklyn. Authentic duck noodle soup, tea eggs and char siu. This is my cafeteria.
google avatar

April H.

Yelp
A newer spot in the Dekalb market food hall, their offerings differ from those of the other Chinese vendors already present. Someone actually tried this first, then told me to stop next time I was there, so we took their advice! I wasn't feeling like a big meal so I just got the peanut noodles, which were definitely enough for me to make a meal of. The sauce was good without being heavy or greasy, and no one spice or flavor overpowered the peanut. My mom got the roast bbq pork bowl, and really enjoyed it (although she lamented the lack of radioactive red food dye, haha!) As a few others have said, one of the cheaper spots in this food hall. Definitely one I'll be back to!

Lillieg 2.

Yelp
I got a chicken rice bowl for a very low price here.... and it was delicious, a really nice girl took my order and had it out in no time!
google avatar

Rochelle G.

Yelp
I ordered the Street Noodles with Thai Peanut Sauce. It was awful. It tasted like very overcooked, sticky spaghetti with cheap quality ultra thick, smooth style peanut butter that bore absolutely no resemblance to anything Thai. I gave them 2 stars because their customer service was ok and I got my food right away because I was the only customer they had at the time. (However, the staff's command of English was so bad that I couldn't get them to comprehend that I was asking for salt.)
google avatar

L T.

Yelp
I haven't had a lot of the menu because every time I try something new it becomes a favorite that I get every time. Excellent customer service!

Ben B.

Yelp
After ditching responsibility and leaving Trader Joe's to order takeout, Mr. Lin's made me wish I had been a responsible human and gone grocery shopping instead- a rare feat. The $13 duck and rice bowl was something I could have made from Trader Joe's ingredients for $3 at most. The $12 pork bowl was more of the same... We couldn't tell the difference between the two. Even though I'm not the most culinarily inclined, what I would have made would have been better quality. The meat was dry and barely warm; the sauce seemed to be on the verge of spoiling. Included was half a hard-boiled egg, which was probably left boiling all day. The quantity of food was barely enough for an appetizer, and left me wanting more... but certainly not more from Mr. Lin.
google avatar

Alex A.

Yelp
Best fish ball soup in NYC. The tea eggs are so tasty. This place is authentic and unlike any other vendor in DeKalb Market. 100% Mr Lin!

Beth A.

Yelp
It's very overpriced for Chinese ! Not enough food and I don't even eat that much ! It's an ok expensive $14 chicken low mein !!

Isabelle P.

Yelp
Love this place. The food is good quality. Coming from LA and someone who is Chinese, it's really hard to find a good Chinese place in Brooklyn. I went to LIU Brooklyn for the school year and this was the place I went to all the time for Chinese food nearby. Prices aren't bad either. The other Chinese places in Dekalb just have to flavor or terrible flavor. Yes this place is simple and something you can make at home, but to be honest, most Chinese food my mom and I can make at home. It really reminds me of home.

Carlos C.

Yelp
This was a favorite go-to place for Chinese food when I lived in the neighborhood. I usually ordered the BBQ pork, but have tried other dishes on various occasions. Note, it's not that "American" Chinese. This is authentic, simple, wholesome, healthy, and GOOD. I truly enjoy the simplicity of a well-cooked dish made with the right (and fresh) ingredients. That simplicity is missing in most dining experiences and 100% Mr. Lin's fills that space. Great, now I'm hungry again!

Tony B.

Yelp
First time here and the food is just delicious. I finished so fast that I forgot to take a picture of the crispy pork. I can honestly eat this everyday. Service was also great. 5/5

Lilah T.

Yelp
This place is good. Not the best in the world but by no means bad. We ordered the fishball soup with flat noodles but they accidentally gave us rice noodles instead. The soup base was a bit greasy and there was a good bit of oil in the broth but it was tasty. The fish balls tasted very similar to the ones you buy at Hmart. The prices are reasonable enough. If you're looking for something other than your typical Chinese cuisine then this is a good choice.
