Where to Find the Best Bagels in Atlanta | Eater Atlanta

"With locations near the Galleria in Cobb County as well as in Duluth, Dunwoody, and Roswell, 101 Bagel Cafe has become a popular spot for bagels and bagel sandwiches over the years. The New York-style water bagels from this shop come topped with schmear, hummus, or even peanut butter. But it’s the bagel sandwiches here that bring folks in, including a corned beef reuben, turkey, bacon, and cheese bagel melt, and an egg and cheese bagel done five ways." - Beth McKibben

Like many of us, road-warriors, the crave hits you at a stoplight and you are really wanting a yummy toasted bagel sandwich. Which is what I was on the hunt for before my Friday started. Decided to hit this place versus Goldberg’s up the street And the place was a bit dingy. Service was excellent and friendly staff. Ordered and everything bagel with egg white and avocado and was a fairly quick order. Was shocked to see my walk out the door price was almost $15 including tip. The bagel sandwich was fairly decent, but felt the everything had too much salt on it. Nevertheless, it was an OK experience, but not giving it four stars because the price was so expensive. I’ve had much better bagel sandwiches in New York that were twice the size and 1/2 the price - but who’s counting. This is East Cobb and you get what you get I guess. UPDATE: I’ve added my review for Goldberg’s up Johnson Ferry for comparison.

Coming to this location it was amazing. Greeted by everyone and the staff were very attentive when taking my order. The lady at the register even repeated my order to make sure it is what I ordered. From the process of ordering my food and receiving it, I can see that they dedicated and made sure the food is right. Even with abit of rush hour, the staff still made sure to get to everyone equally. I would definitely come back to this location for my favorite smoke salmon bagel!! Thank you cafe bagel team here in Roswell!! See y’all again!!

All right let's start with the least important thing here, atmosphere looks like somebody opened up a place and didn't have any money for any furniture so there's two tables one booth definitely designed to not encourage people to hang around. Now let's get to the important thing. I have been to several of these locations. I used to enjoy the one on Cobb parkway. I've visited this location 3 times and when I'm hungry for a lox bagel I tend to forget previous disappointing experiences. So, this morning I stopped in with a friend and order a Nova Lox everything toasted all the way extra capers. When I'm spending the price that they charge for a Lox everything bagel all the way toasted it should come out looking like the picture with a reasonable but not heaping mound of cream cheese on both slices, thinly sliced purple onion, thinly sliced tomatoes, thinly sliced smoked salmon, a fresh firm but soft bagel...But everything on this thing was so chunky🥺 I can't even bite through it. The bagel was hard...like really hard, the Nova lox is thick instead of thinly sliced the onions are big chunks, the tomatoes are nearly 1/4 inch thick. There's no way to neatly eat this and it's so hard I can't even use a knife and fork to cut the bread. I I don't plan on coming back, there are other great options in the area. Just be aware that best this place is inconsistent.

Alright, here we go again. I posted a lengthy review last time and the owner apologized and made it right. Tried to give this place another chance after multiple screw ups. First off, they were out of multiple bagels at 9a. They were out of egg whites, there was an issue with the avocados (the main reason my wife wanted to come). Last time we came they were out of hummus. Anyway, ordered a bagel with cream cheese, son ordered a bagel sliced, not toasted(simple right?). 20 minutes later, my bagel comes out with barely any cream cheese and not toasted. The only reason this isn't a 1 star is because the lady at the front was nice. They honestly should have refunded the whole order, and given gift cards for how poor the experience was. I tried to give this place about 5 chances. No more. We are done. Best of luck, unfortunately they need it.

I used to go to the 101 near Cumberland but then this one opened nearer to home so I started to go here. However the bagels at this location are inferior. For whatever reason (deliberate or accidental) the bagels are always over-baked in my opinion. Here is a photo of the plain bagels I purchased this morning. Too brown on top and hard and crispy. I wish they would fix this and make softer bagels so I can choose whether to eat untoasted or toasted!

This place is awesome !!! I got the Nova bagel + a dirty chi and my husband got a hash brown bowl. So delicious!! And service was amazing! Great place to become a regular!

Google
Great to see 101 Bagels here in East Cobb. Stopped in today to see what they had to offer and they were ready! Stocked up with main bagel varieties you expect. Delicious infused morning blend coffee to get my day started. They also will be adding cold brew coffee soon he mentioned, might have to try that. My wife got an everything bagel & I got jalapeno & cheddar, let's just say we'll be back for more bagels and telling all our friends and family how good it was.

Google
Really 4.5 stars b/c of a few caveats. Really like the concept, store layout/decor and the staff is super welcoming and accommodating. I got the lox bagel (plain) and asked them to double toast it. Most places barely toast a bagel. I like mine to be "browned" so they double toasted it which made it pretty darn hard. That's on ME NOT THEM. Next visit, I'll just go with a single pass. The bagel was huge so it overwhelmed the cream cheese and lox and onion. I'd suggest more of all three, particularly the cc "schmear". Finally, the tomato wasn't all that and was barely tasted. Good tomatoes are hard to find. I prefer the TN variety but it wasn't distasteful. Maybe switch to Campari tomatoes? They rock. The pleasant surprise were the hash browns because at $10, it's not a "cheap" sandwich. In summary, recommended. I will be back. PS: Get little labels so I can identify the bagels!

Yelp
Bagels are super fresh and jalapeno cheddar bagel is the best. Has a cheese crust and perfect kick

Yelp
My eight year old granddaughter gives it five stars for the rainbow bagel. I also like the food. And the iced coffee comes with ice cubes made out of coffee instead of water! They also have a window so you can see the giant vat of boiling water they make the bagels in.

Yelp
I was very impressed with my first experience here. They really do make the bagels in house. I snapped a poor picture of the oven and the boiling kettle behind glass adjacent to the area where you order. The staff were very friendly- I think they are working the kinks out of being only open for two weeks- but she is going to be exhausted repeating the names of the bagels to every customer. (She mentioned that the tags for the bagels have not come in so it is a sea of round items behind her to name when asked). I had a plain bagel with bacon, egg, and cheese. It was a giant, fresh and fluffy meal- almost too much for one person. I most certainly will be back! Great experience

Yelp
My favorite bagel place in Marietta! The nova and lox bagel is always delicious. It's usually not busy and a great place to chill or work.

Yelp
first time in Marietta was great. second time was horrid. bagel was cut in the wrap paper and upon pulling out the bagel from the bag, the huge disgusting blob of what amounted to. half tub of butter, peed all over my pants and shirt, completely destroying my clothes with grease. took one of the bagel halves in butter to the cashier and recommended they not add so much butter and cut through the paper. she said ok. didn't offer a better bagel - never again

Yelp
My breakfast sandwich tasted good till I discovered a clump of hair on it. I understand a single stand here and there but this was a clump. Needless to say this was my first and last time here.

Yelp
I like the bagels and hate they closed their Cumberland location. This location has a pretty bad gnat problem. There were about a dozen flying over and around the sink at the front counter. Not a great experience trying to look past bugs flying in your face to pick out a bagel.

Tiger M.

Yelp
My absolute favorite bagel store to visit whenever I want to wait more than 45 minutes for two bagels.

Yelp
101 Bagel Cafe is now open in East Cobb! Since their opening a few weeks ago, I have ate here twice and enjoyed both times! The customer service is great. All of the staff are super friendly and even remembered me from the first time I came in. I tried the Everything Bagel with plain cream cheese which is amazing! They make all of their bagels daily and you can really taste the freshness. They have a very large breakfast menu and I look forward to trying more of the items! Everyone go support this new amazing business!!

Niah F.

Yelp
I had to leave a review because yes they are a bagel spot but their breakfast is sooooo good. I love their muffins, blueberry, apple cinnamon & that pumpkin yum! I tried the loaded burrito today and added spinach, hmmm so good . I also tried the Spiced Apple Cider and I usually get one from Starbucks but here is a larger cup, taste just as good and I love the lid, I mean it has a holder for the little top closer thingy. Oh and see how huge the muffins are. You gotta stop by, I wish I had a location closer to Smyrna.

Yelp
The food is decent here but it is not worth the price or the 40+ minute wait and complete chaos that is going on behind the counter with the staff. When I arrived there were only 3 people ahead of me in line. To take those people's orders was at least 15 minutes. At this point I nearly turned around and left but decided to just wait it out... I ordered one of their iced coffees and had to remind the cashier to give me the coffee cubes (the people behind me also had to remind him). While waiting for at least 30 minutes for my food to come out the person making the food called management at least twice to complain because they didn't have any hot coffee made, were out of some bagels amongst other things. One person requested a refund and went to bagelicious and others were complaining up a storm. Would not recommend.

Yelp
I've been craving bagels for quite some time and kept seeing 101 Bagel Cafe off a road I take most days. The menu has tons of options to choose from and all I knew is I wanted an asiago bagel. I ended up getting the TBC Melt which has turkey, bacon, cheese, a chipotle sauce, and I added red onion on an asiago bagel. Look at the picture - it was beautiful and perfectly toasted. I had high expectations after seeing it in all its glory but was a little disappointed to say the taste wasn't what I imagined. It was overall pretty "meh" and the bacon almost tasted burnt but the chipotle sauce gave it a nice kick. Since it was a to-go order, the hash brown was mushy but if you eat in the restaurant it will probably be a different experience. I think IF I'm back, I'll try a different bagel and their cream cheese because they seemed to have a lot of options. I will end by saying the staff was 12/10! Fantastic customer service, so they get another star for that. I looked lost (I'm a very indecisive person) and they gave me their recommendations and steered me in the right direction.

Yelp
First time trying this chain with my husband. We both got a sausage, egg and cheese on a toasted bagel. I got an iced chai tea latte with vanilla. I love that they used frozen coffee cubes instead of regular ice. It was cool to have it melt into a dirty chai latte! Overall, our bagels were okay but I really enjoyed my iced latte. It was pretty busy but we got our food and drinks fast and the lady checking us out was really sweet!

Rachel H.

Yelp
Although service was friendly and good, the food not so much. Thought I would try it instead of my usuals that I go to. Not sure why my asiago bagel was orange on the inside, and it didn't taste like an asiago bagel.

Yelp
Started off strong, but now is a complete cluster. Routinely out of half of the menu, service is horrible and wait time is regularly 40+ mins for simple orders placed in advance. Staff loudly cursing and yelling at each other. Humorous if you enjoy a show but not great if you're hungry/in a rush or want to eat what you ordered.

Eileen B.

Yelp
Tried this place for the first time I will NEVER return. It was so bad we left there and our order right in the trash. The omelette was uneatable and you couldn't find the cream cheese on the bagel.

Yelp
First visit today and will be going back soon. Great bagel, egg and sandwich options. Delicious!
google avatar

Ken M.

Yelp
Delicious, fat bagel with a traditional chewy center and crunchy outside. Had the Taylor Ham and cheese, simple but very tasty. Place is small but about four tables outside. Look forward to coming back to try more.

Yelp
I was excited to hear that a New York style deli was coming to Dunwoody. The bagels were delicious and I will go back to buy more. The place is really a take out place. We sat at one of the few tables and was given our food in a bag.

Maya Y.

Yelp
I ordered a half dozen bagels of 6 different kinds. They were average at best. Nothing wrong with customer service, but just like the bagels, it was pretty mid. Not really worth the drive over from Marietta.

Manuel E.

Yelp
I've had the California Bowl and The Power omelette on separate occasions and they were both delicious, flavorful and a great breakfast to start the day. Will definitely make this my go to breakfast place before work.

Yelp
We love Bagel 101! Closest to NYC bagels in the south you can find. The menu also includes lunch items and muffins. Great beverage choices. Relaxing environment. Window where you can watch them making bagels!! Friendliest staff and super quick on making your food. Perfect place to stop in for a quick meal before school or work. This place just opened and we have already been around ten times. The everything bagel is really good! They also have rainbow colored bagels that children would love. Going to take my nieces when they are in town. Very happy to have this great local business in East Cobb!

Rob L.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. Bagels are amazing as well as the menu selections BUT, please change your plastic cups. They are so flimsy that it is hard to put the top on it without collapsing the top. Almost impossible to carry. 5 stars if the cups are changed.

Nikki M.

Yelp
Went for the first time on Sunday. The egg and cheese bagel was good, but they didn't have the iced coffee (I Cubez and the only reason I went in the first place).. they only had decaf. When I told the girl working there (not sure if she was the manager) she was so rude and just had a bad attitude. Honestly, I would have expected them to maybe refill one of the iced coffees. It was only about 12:15pm and they closed at 3. To make matters worse, when I asked for a refund for the iced coffee, she told me that I'd have to wait until she got done serving everyone in the line - literally about 6 people, before she would do it. I'm not sure if I'd go back. I'd rather go to Goldbergs down the street. I've never had an issue with the waiters/hosts being rude over there and the bagels are just as good in my opinion.

Christian C.

Yelp
It's really frustrating ordering (correctly might I add), being charged, getting a receipt, getting to the restaurant, only for the order to apparently not exist. If I could give zero stars I would. Do not ever order online from this restaurant.

J H.

Yelp
Great online ordering and clean store, friendly staff. However the bagels were very soft and bread-like, not dense and chewy as our family prefers. And the eggs on the sandwiches were fried or steamed discs, instead of a nice scrambled blend. Coffee was weak and tasteless. Overall nothing wrong, but with Goldberg's just a few blocks away, we won't be back here.

Marah M.

Yelp
Shout out to that cashier Permida (sorry if I spelled that wrong- I've got a cold) she was super attentive, polite, and overall a great cashier 10/10 would recommend. I got a bagel with avocado but I could tell it was made with love. P

Mark C.

Yelp
This place serves legit bagels. Excellent bagels. Yelp says I need more words to post this review... so I will because these bagels are that good. They're delicious.

Robert V.

Yelp
Probably the best breakfast in the East Cobb area. Do not be fooled by the name, there are many unique items to try here. My bagel and hash brown were delicious, I also tried their wild berry drink and it was great also. Definitely recommend

Rob E.

Yelp
Holy cow. Bagels were awesome, great flavor and texture was perfect. Tons of choices for innards - my wife got the 101 Trio and I got the Sliced Nova with egg added. Hot coffee was smooth and tasty. Noticed on the way out they have coffee ice cubes to go in the iced coffee - genius, will try that next time. Great and friendly service. So happy to finally have a good bagel place in my area!
