"This laid-back bistro dotted with music memorabilia speaks loudly of the passions of one of its owners – food and music. The blue and white dining room with its open kitchen sets the mood for a food and music journey. The chef reinterprets Taiwanese classics with western techniques, as pickled glueberries and barrel broiled chicken find their way into the menu. Oo-peh-tshiat, or assorted offal and meat platter, is jazzed up with western spices." - Michelin Inspector

Yelp
Soup dumplings!! Get them here. There's a reason why Din Tai Fung is as popular as it is. While this location isn't as busy as some of their other locations (101 and Sogo come to mind), you still have to wait about 20-30 min. And they won't let you in unless your entire party is present. This is because you only have 2 hours to eat. That said, we didn't feel super rushed either. Aside from the dumplings 'y favorite dishes were the bird's nest fern and rice sponge cake with azuki red beans. Both are so unique and delicious. Definitely can't find that fern dish in my neck of the woods in the polar opposite hemisphere. Very fresh, quality dishes. More on the pricey side for sure, but this pace is great to try once in a blue moon. Also cool to see behind the scenes as kitchen staff wrap dumplings.

Yelp
A must-try restaurant when visiting Taiwan! Expect a long queue--about an hour--but trust me, it's worth the wait for their delicious food and wide selection. Their Xiao Long Bao, shumai , hot and sour soup and lava bun are absolute standouts--always the best !

Yelp
On a Tuesday early afternoon, I waited about 50 minutes for a seat at Din Tai Fung in Zhongshan. This restaurant is on the second-level basement floor of the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi next to Zhongshan Station. To reserve a spot in the queue, you go up to the front desk to retrieve a small paper with your number and a QR code to scan to order online. I ordered the spicy pickled cucumber, pork xiao long bao, truffle and pork xiao long bao, pork chop fried rice, and snow mushroom sweet soup. While waiting, I ordered online and walked around the large department store this restaurant is under. As expected, the dining experience came with a loud and busy ambience. I observed the staff occupied with confirming orders, providing food, refilling tea, and removing unused dishes. I wish that the soup dumplings had a little hotter broth. However, all of the dishes had high quality and made for a delicious and filling meal.

Yelp
the fried rice wasn't as eggy, pork chop wasn't as flavorful, and the truffle pork xlb wasn't as soupy as I remembered. dan dan noodles were still yummy though and everything was so cheap yay

Yelp
American Tourist Review: These exist in the US but it's not the same. It's way tastier and cheaper here. The soup dumplings are so delicious and each dumpling is packed with tons of flavorful soup. It got REALLY busy and we came just after opening. We waited probably almost an hour so be prepared to hang out and walk around the mall

Yelp
Their xiaolongbao are as good as I remembered from my time in HK. I ordered sweet potato leaves, which are my fave veggie. My boyfriend ordered the shrimp fried rice, which was also good. Their jasmine green tea was also a major highlight. Service was really good, too! And the ambiance was fairly classy.

Yelp
Din Tai Fung Mitsukoshi Nanxi Restaurant 104, Taiwan, Taipei City, Zhongshan District, Nanjing W Rd, 12號B2 I am at the ORIGINAL and the FIRST Din Tai Fung in the world I just enjoyed an incredible dinner at the original Din Tai Fung in Taiwan! I can hardly believe that everything I tried only cost $64.00! The xiao long bao were absolutely amazing, along with all the other dishes. Wow, what a fantastic deal at just $64.00! I'm so amazed by the incredible power my girlfriend #21 has! When we got to Din Tai Fung, the staff escorted us directly to the cozy room on the 3rd floor without any wait. It was such a delightful and fantastic experience. Even though I was tired from all the traveling, I felt so grateful for this special treatment.

Yelp
Even though Din Tai Fung is available in the States, one must visit when in Taipei! I absolutely love the food here. It's consistently good and as always it's busy! The wait wasn't that bad though on a Thursday afternoon. Restaurant is clean, food is great and staff is nice- what more can you ask for?

Yelp
We went the other night but they were already not taking any reservations, so we tried this morning and we got in right away! We had quite a few things, the famous juicy pork buns (it was truly juicy and tasty), spicy won tons (it wasn't too spicy but had tons of flavor), beef brisket noodle soup (I love the thin noodles, flavor was outstanding), pork sui Mai, sweet and sour ribs (it was a cold dish but really tasty and tender)! It was crazy busy but the service was excellent and noise was pretty loud! Definitely you need to get there when they first open at 11! Otherwise you will have to wait!

Yelp
The most amazing soup dumplings is worth the long lines. Service is amazing considering the amount of customers. A must try restaurant if you are in Taiwan.

Yelp
Din Tai Fung Mitsukoshi Nanxi Restaurant delivered! The same food in Taipei is so much tastier than in Canada. Loved everything we ordered. Don't miss this chain when in Taiwan.

Yelp
I really wanted to try DTF on this trip to Taipei but the pork/cabbage and fish XLBs were just average and fried rice was decent. The restaurant is clean and service was good. It was nice to try it once.

Yelp
When you come to Taiwan, you must visit din tai fung. Yes, this is a chain in US but it was originally founded in Taiwan. We didn't wait too long -- around 20 minutes. They give you a number and will give you an estimate on how long you need to wait. Since this is located inside a shopping center, you can shop around during the wait. The xiao long bao (soup dumpling) is to die for! It already tastes amazing in US but it tastes so much better here in Taiwan. I've only been to DTF in Portland and Seattle so there are some differences. There are more selection here in Taiwan and you get the option of choosing half or full portion in TW vs the set number in US. So if you're ever interested in the truffle xiao long bao and don't want to pay the full price for 5 pieces, this is the place to go! The beef noodle soup is a Taiwanese staple and the soup base is so yummy! It's savory with a slight tang to it.

Yelp
Good service, variety of dumplings, for the price, can find other alternatives and more reasonable, drunken chicken is overpriced and the most expensive cold dish. Good to try the first time.

Yelp
We returned to this Din Tai Fung location again 30 minutes before the department store doors opened. By 10:45am, there was already a line forming outside on the street. Din Tai Fung is one of a few restaurants located in the department store basement. At 11am sharp, the store doors opened and literally people poured inside. Old men were RUNNING towards the down escalator. Luckily my husband can run faster. Go honey go! By the time me and my niece and nephew caught up to him at the restaurant entrance, he was smiling with relief that he was the 5th person in line for a table. We were seated right away. Ordered so many dishes - cold and hot veggies, several baskets of xiaolongbao, soup, fried rice, pork chop, noodles, that the waitress asked us dumbfounded, "Are you sure you can eat that much food?" YES! This time however we also ordered DESSERT - the custard lava bun was a warm, custardy treat and the chocolate xiaolongbao was filled with a rich dark chocolate that tasted like a gourmet brand. If I lived in Taipei, I would be eating here everyday. Really.

Yelp
Din Tai Fung is the place to go for dumplings if you are a foreigner. They make ordering the delicious food so easy and it is very friendly to other language speakers. The dumplings are excellent and so is the rest of the food. Be ready for a way for the food as it is extremely popular, but it is definitely worth the wait. The price, assuming that you over order on food, which you definitely should is around $25 per person, which is a serious bargain.

Yelp
We ordered 80 dumplings for 2 people... But oh man, it was the best! These days I have been really missing Taiwan's Din Tai Fung. I know they have branches all over the world, but somehow their dumplings here feel extra special . Their dumplings were incredibly delicate; it felt like eating a bubble followed by a flavorful explosion Savory or sweet, in soup, dumpling, or wonton form, @dintaifungtw has every dumpling you can think of! These are just a few of my favorite ones from that day; you definitely gotta try it out if you ever go to Taiwan!

Yelp
Truffle Pork Soup Dumplings!!! This is a MUST order!!! My hubby and I never had Din Tai Fung in the US and thought we should try it while we were in Taipei. I did not have high expectations as I heard mixed reviews . We live in NYC, therefore, we have easy access to a bunch of soup dumplings also. But dammm, we stand on the love side!!! This location is in the basement of a mall and no doubt it's busy even after lunch hours around 2:00pm. We put our name down and was quoted 80 minutes. No problem as our hotel is about a 20 minutes walk and we wanted to drop stuff after shopping anyway. We returned within an hour and apparently our number was called already, no issues as they just put us as next. Simple! We already have our order ready for they gave us a menu to mark up what we wanted when we put our names down. Smart! Hubby and I shared the Chili Cucumber as an appetizer and thought it was okay but I loved the crunch of fresh cucumbers. The first dumplings to arrive was the classic pork dumplings, I was pretty impressed with how thin the skin was and it holds up so well. I tend to like thicker skins. The broth was so flavorful as I bit into it! It was the perfect bite sized for me. Now comes the star, the Truffle Pork Soup Dumplings. My hubby dislikes truffle and I thought it was such a gimmick but ordered it anyway since a friend of ours recommended. The waitress gave us a brand new spoon and recommended that we rinse our palettes with tea before having it. So we did. HOLY COW, BEST DECISION EVER!!! We both LOVED it and it was the best dumplings we had that day!!! Next comes the Crab Soup Dumplings which usually are my favorites. Crab flavor was really good and I love the natural sweetness of the bits of crab meat. Hubby usually likes Vegetable Dumplings which are decent here. I was sooo shocked that we both ended up loving DTF as much as we did. Now we can only dream about these amazing soup dumplings!

Yelp
I tried the XLB at various restaurants before I decided to conclude with this one. As my stay in Taipei is coming closer to a closure I can now say, this place has the right to proclaim they have the best XLB and atmosphere. The fact that you can charge at this location doesn't hurt either. Every time we visited DTF, we're told there's a 20 minute wait. The location in Dongmen does not honor charge. We started off with pork XLB, stir fry spinach, chicken, DTF house special appetizer (yup, that's the name of their appetizer), sticky rice with pork belly, shrimp and green squash xlb, and the spicy wontons. Our favorites are the pork XLB, stir fried spinach, chicken, sticky rice and spicy wontons. In other words, everything. Our waitress was so sweet and the service was exceptional. From now on, we're going to be faithful and come here only for XLB... And everything else.

Yelp
If you like Dim Sum, you are in luck. Din Tai Fung, in Taipei Taiwan is the real deal. While there were some obvious tourists here eating, everyone else were locals...and for good reason. I came here at dinner time on a cold rainy evening...not too far from my hotel. I did have a little difficulty finding the restaurant, but only because it was on the B3 basement level...don't waste your time on the elevator, take the stairs. When I arrived I waited to see the receptionist and be given a number...let's just say the restaurant was packed and an equal number of people with numbers waiting for a table. The wait went somewhat quick, perhaps 30-45 minutes. I was seated in a nice location, order was confirmed... First out came the local beer that I selected...fantastic. Then came the hot & sour soup...ohh this was fantastic...!!! Coming out next and they became ready...was the various dim sums I had selected. This was heaven...so very yummy...!!! What a perfect meal. If in Taipei, I recommend your consideration, a perfect restaurant...host, service, meals...5-star all the way.

Yelp
I had initially planned to visit Din Tai Fung within Taipei 101 but the early lineup was easily over an hour long. Instead I came to this excellent location situated in the basement level of Mitsukoshi Nanxi Store, close to Zhongshan metro station. The restaurant was also packed but thankfully the lunch lineup was about 20 minutes. First off, it's neat to watch the kitchen staff in white aprons meticulously weigh and prepare each dumpling by hand. My order of soup dumplings (xiao long bao) arrived fresh in a steamer with precisely 18 thin folds each. Upon taking a bite, the pork soup released from the sagging dumpling was very flavourful and clean. The side orders of house seaweed salad and spicy wontons were also good but the soup dumplings were certainly some of the BEST compared to others in Shanghai/elsewhere that I've had. There are many other steam dumpling variations on the menu at Din Tai Fung; I finished with ones filled with melting chocolate sauce for dessert. Overall this was yet another decent and affordable meal experience in Taipei, as the locals definitely savour their food. The wait staff was friendly, efficient and attentive, even picking up my umbrella as I was about to leave without it. Din Tai Fung's consistent soup dumplings combined with its service and family atmosphere makes it a local favourite and backs its Michelin reputation. Interesting clip of how their soup dumplings are handmade: https://youtu.be/rY7HawoU-Cw

Yelp
If you love xiao long bao (shanghai pork dumpling) this place will knock you off your socks! I tried this place because my wife went on and on about this place before we even got to Taiwan so we had to go to this place. Xiao long bao is just amazing. Perfect. Best I've had in recent years with really thin skin and perfectly made. Just delicious! I also tried other dishs on the menu like pork and shrimp dumpling, dandan noodle, pickled cucumber, they were all good but did not stand out like the xiao long bao. The place is always packed so expect to wait after getting your ticket and browse through the menu while waiting. This place gets a 5 star for the exceptional xiao long bao.

Yelp
Unfortunately, I don't live in a city that has a din tai Fung. Actually, the closest din tai Fung is probably 4,000 miles away from where I live, so, yes, when I travel and have the opportunity to eat at one, I'm going to take it. We ate a late lunch here in the basement of the mall. It's easy enough to spot because there is a large cartoon XLB character straight in-front as you exit the escalator. We checked in and received an order form. We waited about 20 minutes and then ate ALL the xiaolongbaos. We ordered 4 different dumplings, string beans, noodles and the crispy shrimp cake. Everything was delicious and we left full and happy. The service was really excellent. Before we were seated, the hostess asked us if we had allergies and if it was ok that there was coriander in the shrimp cake. Very thoughtful. We were served water and hot tea, which were constantly refilled. I liked the efficiency and teamwork that all the staff displays. We were probably in and out in 30 minutes. It was amazing. It was also one of the pricier meals we had in Taiwan. Now considering we were really hungry and ordered a lot AND that most places to eat in Taiwan are soooo cheap, it's no surprise that our bill was high. I'd still come back.

Yelp
When I first met my wife to be, our first meal was at Din Tai Fung, the one on Xinyi road in Da-an District, and so we've always held the restaurant chain in high regard. Din Tai Fung pays special care and focus to all parts of the dining experience from ingredients used in their delicious foods to the house made soy sauce and vinegar to the brand name chop sticks and cutlery and plates. Service is excellent and seems to be consistent at each branch, with the possible exception being the USA branches. When we're in Taipei, we don't pay particular concern over which restaurant branch we visit because we anticipate service and food quality to be consistently excellent. Our standard meals include pork xiao long bao, luffa xiao long bao, egg fried rice with pork (not the pork chop), as well as the braised beef noodle soup.

Yelp
Din Tai Fung is famous for its xiaolongbao and long waiting times for a good reason. Be sure to come during non peak hours or else you'll expect to wait roughly an hour just to get in. Due to the long wait times, you may be given an ordering sheet to mark down the items in order to save time. Service here is incredible and very attentive. We ordered the pork xiaolongbao, fried rice, and spicy wontons. Our server politely informed us about the xiaolongbao condiment ratio of 3:1 vinegar to soy sauce ratio. The xiaolongbaos were freshly made and the meat filling was incredibly delicious. I found that the soup was lacking in the dumplings and could have been hotter. After all, xiaolongbaos are known to burn your mouth! The spicy wontons were equally delicious and a must try. The fried rice was a small portion but had a pleasant fried egg flavour.

Yelp
As good as it gets for fast, fresh, delicious and reasonably priced authentic Taiwanese Dim Sum! I have had Dim Sum at the supposed best places in Los Angeles, New York and at home in Honolulu but never has compared to how delicious Din Tai Fung is every time we go. This place competes with any of the best Dim Sum spots in Taiwan as well as all around the world.

Yelp
Really good dumplings! You will want to put your name down to recieve a number. It was well worth the hour wait. (They have an app you can download to check your place in line and whether your number has been called). The dumplings were great! In addition to the XLB, they also did a great shrimp one. The Chocolate XLB are must have!

Yelp
The Xiao Long Baos at Din Tai Fung are unbeatable. The pork XLBs are the classic and most popular. The wrapper is thin and the filling is super flavorful and juicy. I'm also a huge fan of the crab roe and pork ones which are more sophisticated in flavor. I also love the Dan Dan Noodles here. They're less spicy but the sauce is extra peanuts and sesame which is exactly how I like mine. The noodles with spicy sauce is also delicious with a hint of sweetness. I came to Taipei with some friends on a holiday and we ate here twice before going back. Prices are reasonable and the service is excellent (most waiters are fluent in English, Japanese and Korean). I highly recommend trying when in Taipei!

Yelp
This place was excellent. I read Din Tai Fung was much talked about prior to planning my trip to Taipei. There are many locations in Taipei, this was our first. Its in the basement of a shopping center. We got there right before they opened and right before the shopping center opened. There were alot of people outside waiting for the shopping center to open. I mean crowds. Minutes before opening, an employee came out with a notepad and yelled Din Tai Fung. So we followed. Glad we did as we didn't speak much of the language and didn't know for sure where in the shopping center they were. I thought that was a nice touch. From that point on, the service was consistently attentive. Everything came out fast. We must have had a handful of different people bringing food, water and taking our dishes away. Loved that there is English on the menu too. We had the must try Pork Xiao Long Bao and those were great. It's amazing that the dumpling wrap was so thin and soft, yet didn't tear and held the soup inside. We had the snow pea shoots, red bean buns and pork chop fried rice. Everything was good and tasted fresh. We tried the chocolate filled dumpling since it was different, but it was a bit rich for my taste. You can see the chefs making the dumplings behind the glass in the front of the restaurant. Pretty cool.

Yelp
I'm from Los Angeles, where Din Tai Fung has a few locations. I had never been to any of them however, partly because I never understood the reason for the huge lines. And I never wanted to endure the wait. Being in Taipei however, where the original location is, made me open to trying it out. Two days before I came to this location, my very first Din Tai Fung experience was at the location in the Taipei 101 Mall. It was so crazy there, we luckily got there 30-ish minutes before opening, and were the third party in line. By the time it was 15-ish minutes before opening, the line was about a hundred people long! The XLB were so delicately delicious, that we came to this location, praying that a weekend early lunch wouldn't be similarly packed. Thankfully, we were seated immediately. By the time we left, the line to get in was about 20-ish people long. Still a crowd, but way less than the Taipei 101 Mall location. Both times, our fave was the Truffle Pork XLB. We also liked the Shrimp & Pork ones, but the Crab Roe & Pork XLB that we tried this time ran a very close second to the truffle ones. The sticky rice tamales are delicious, and the peanut noodles and potstickers are too. The bean sprouts side and the water spinach with tofu skin are really good. The chocolate dessert dumplings were like molten chocolate in a wrapper. Yeah, as amazing of an idea as it gets! The taro dessert ones were comfort foody textured, and both were lightly sweet. Basically, everything here is delicious. They have really cute dumpling-head cartoon character-printed mugs, keychains, pens, stickers, etc. - even the bag for our purchases had a super cute dumpling-head print on it! It's good to know that when I get back home to LA, I can get my XLB fix. But I still think trying it for the first time in Taiwan is the way to go : ).

Yelp
The hype of Taiwan is always Din Tai Fung, but the story is that the chefs originally came from Shanghai who created these soup dumplings and made it a hit, then returned to Shanghai. With that said, it technically isn't a true Taiwanese restaurant, but there still are some things outside of the soup dumpling category (I only like the crab meat one) that I actually enjoy having. I personally like the eight jewel sticky rice which is a dessert filled with red bean. A lot of my friends come to Din Tai Fung just for the lotus rice which is blizzard, but sure! It beats having to wait until specific chinese holidays to have this dish! I also feel that I enjoy eating the chili sauce dumplings more than the soup dumplings which is a surprise, but hey, everyone has their own cravings! I do feel that the service is always great. There is a bit of a wait time and you will find that many people go as soon as they open to minimize the wait period, but be sure to grab a menu and get ready to order as you wait!
google avatar

Nils R.

Yelp
I've been to Din Tai Fung in other places outside of Taiwan and the food quality is similar but vastly different. The service is also very good. I had to wait for about 45 minutes before being seated but they have shopping and cafes nearby to keep you busy while you wait. No biggy for me. My favorite dishes were the pork xiaolongbao and the spicy shrimp wonton. They both had a subtle sweetness to them. The wontons also had a bit of vinegar along with the spice. If you want to try something interesting, I would recommend the spicy Beef trife. They are served cold and have a garlic flavor to them. They are cooked to absolute tenderness too. I will definitely come back every time I go to Taipei.

Yelp
Like the other locations in Asia, this Din Tai Fung boasts cleanliness, great service, and delicious food. The xiao long bao in this chain is second to none and the ones in Taiwan/China are better than the stores elsewhere. While Din Tai Fung originated in Taiwan, this specific store is not the original nor does it have a Michelin Star like the ones in China. Interior: this is one of the bigger DTFs but the wait time can still get quite long because it's located inside a shopping mall. This DTF is also very modern and organized. While there were a lot of diners inside, I didn't feel squished because the tables are spread out in a very calculated way. The manager oversees the exact lines each chair/table should be set up on. Everything inside is also meticulously cleaned and so, despite the huge amounts of traffic this DTF sees every day, there are no messes. Service: every DTF I've been to has had huge wait times. I've seen the wait for this place get up to three hours. The servers do all the can to mediate this situation. They're very friendly and will give you the menu so you can order while you're waiting. That way, the food will be ready by the time you sit down. If you're afraid of the long wait time, I would recommend downloading the Din Tai Fung app. On it, you can see the wait times for all DTFs as well as their distance from you. I usually check the app before going to a DTF so I can select the one with the least wait time. Once you get there, the server will give you a number and, if you scan the QR code via the app, you can see the amount of tables in front of you on your phone. The servers are not only accommodating they also know how to speak multiple languages. I've heard Chinese, English, Korean, and Japanese. They're very attentive to your table and this DTF is always very well stocked with employees walking around. Food: three words - pork soup dumplings (Xiao Long Bao). They will be the best XLB you'll ever eat for a variety of reasons. First, they are consistently made. You can see the workers create the XLB like machines behind a glass divider. Every XLB has 18 folds on top and they even measure the amount of meat that goes inside every one. Secondly, the skin of the XLBs are very thin but hold very well (no breakage). The thing skin also means that the XLB are surprisingly light on your stomach and won't leave you feeling heavy after your meal. My favorite XLB is the classic (pork) and my second favorite is the chicken. I didn't really like the crab one but it wasn't too bad. The truffle XLB was good but I don't think it's worth the price; the truffle pieces are big but I don't think it contributed anything significant to the overall flavor profile of the XLB. I have also had other items from Din Tai Fung. Everything is pretty yummy but I especially like the hot sour soup. I think it's really well made and compliments the XLB well. The fried dumplings were good too. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu.

Yelp
Why can't the Din Tai Fung locations in the States taste as good as the ones in Asia? I'm not much of a fan of DTF in the US but eating at DTF while in Taiwan is a must do now I'm a fan! Do you think it's something in the water? We ordered the pork XLBs, shrimp dumplings, seasonal greens, and sesame cucumbers. The Pork XLBs were amazing! They were juicy and freshly made. The pork didn't have that weird grassy flavor that the US locations have. Most importantly, none of the soup dumplings were popped upon arrival. My only complaint is that the tops of the dumplings seemed a bit dry, perhaps from over steaming? The shrimp steamed dumplings were also really good! The shrimp stuffing was generous and the skin was moist. I think I liked the shrimp dumplings more than the XLBs. The seasonal greens were garlicky and not oily at al! We were traveling so nonfried/oily vegetables were a rare welcomed commodity. The greens were crisp and fresh. The cucumbers in sesame oil were also good. They taste the same as in the States but I like the ones in the States. DTF accepts cash and card. The staff is very attentive and speaks basic English if you don't speak Mandarin Chinese. In a lot of places in Taiwan, we would get a glass or dish with mysterious lipstick/food stuck on them from the devious user. However, that would never happen here because I saw the staff inspecting each dish ware before placing it on the table. I am dying to come back to Taiwan for the DTF!

Yelp
My mother and I came here for our first meal on our trip to Taipei about a month ago. I've been to 3 different Din Tai Fung locations around the world prior to this visit, but I knew that I would have to go to at least one in Taipei, where it had all come from. This particular location was not too far away from where we were staying, and is located inside a large (and higher end) department store. We got there at around 11:00AM, just before the major lunch rush, on a Tuesday, and the line was quite long. Still, they seem to be good at managing lines as they had a fairly sophisticated linekeeping system with number displays and announcements. A wait for a table for the 2 of us ended up taking about 20-30 minutes, so be prepared to wait, regardless of the size of your party. Since we had ample time to peruse the menu prior to being seated, we had already made up our minds on what to order: woodear mushrooms with vinegar, vegetable and mushroom fried rice, vegetable and mushroom dumplings, stir-fried spinach, and a soup (though I can't remember what kind exactly now). The food was as good as I remember it being in all of the other locations I had been to, and the service was impeccable. My mom, as picky of an eater as she is, also found the food to be "clean tasting" and tasty. It's definitely not as cheap as many other dim sum places you may find in Taipei, but the food has been consistent and good. I'm not sure what the other locations in Taipei are like, but this one was nice, clean, and had very friendly and prompt service.

Yelp
I used to live in this area back when I lived in Taipei during high school, but these department stores really have changed! Shin Kong Mitsubishi has taken over and there is now a Din Tai Fung in the basement. We came during off hours around 2pm and there was no wait. There were a lot of appetizers that were sold out so we didn't get any. We ended up ordering half portions of the regular XLBs and the si gua/pork ones, which you can't find in the states. Both were delicious! We also ordered some yam leaves and beef noodle soup to share. The beef broth was really good, the appearance isn't that fancy, and there's no pickled veggies to add, but it was still really rich and delicious. Overall service was prompt, but DTF prices are very high compared to other regular Taiwanese restaurants that serve XLBs.

Yelp
Finally got around to trying DTF IN Taiwan and it was everything I could have asked for. I really wish they would expand to NY, but I probably would never be willing to wait in line to dine here because I can imagine it would be madness forever. Their soup dumplings are smaller than some other places, but the quality and taste are top notch. This go around, we also ordered the spicy wonton/dumplings and those were exceptional as well. There's a reason why each DTF shop has a line out the door. I would recommend coming on the earlier side to avoid a long wait.

Yelp
I'm never disappoint when I dine at DTF. Always go home happy and satisfied! It's my first time at this branch and like all other branches, expect a long wait. We had to wait for about 35mins, but it wasn't too bad since it's inside a mall so you can walk around to kill time, helps to build up an appetite too! We ordered 8 dishes between the 4 of us and were stuffed! The xlb was excellent as always, as well as everything else. Service was excellent and staff was attentive and making sure we always had water or tea.

Yelp
Ah yes, the infamous Taiwanese Din Tai Fung. The soup dumpling masters of all soup dumplings worldwide. To this day, I have never had a better soup dumpling, and I'm not sure that I ever will. What pisses me off is that I will never be able to eat mediocre or sub-par xiao long bao ever again. We arrived on a weeknight evening for dinner, with a 30ish minute wait for 6 people - not bad! We were seated in a corner, but service was never lacking, even when we were tucked away near the back. We chose what we were going to order before going in while waiting, so once we were seated, we placed our order immediately. We went crazy since we were starving: Green Beans - ok, so yes, it sounds boring, but the flavor on these were amazing. That, or we were starving. We only ordered one, but wished we ordered multiple servings since one portion is pretty small. Shrimp Fried Rice - just ok. Nothing mind blowing, but did stave off our hunger for a little bit before the next dish appeared. AA Lettuce - since most of the summer seasonal vegetables were not available, we ordered these stir fried veggies. Standard, but necessary greens! Soup Dumplings - I could write a book about these soup dumplings. Each dumpling has the same number of folds and each dumpling is perfectly formed. After fitting the perfectly sized dumpling into your mouth, you feel it pop open in a warm glow of soup. And oh GOD, it's orgasmic. My sole regret was getting only two steamers of soup dumplings. Wonton Soup - nothing as mind blowing as the soil dumplings, but was a nice palate cleanser. There are dessert bao's and "soup dumplings", too. We got taro and red bean baos and dumplings, which were pretty tasty, but not as special as the soup dumplings, in my opinion. I've heard some locations need reservations, but this location is convenient that you just need to put your name down and take a number. Best soup dumplings in the world (at least, that I've tasted)? Hands down.

Yelp
Finally was able to try the truffle Xiao long bao due to the psychological assistance from their price being $15 (USD) instead of the exorbitant Silicon Valley ( valley fair mall in San Jose , CA) . There was a big group of people waiting for the department store to open so that we could all rush down to B2 where the restaurant is located. The standard XLB were tastier than the San Jose location. The truffles were the maximum fungal punch you would expect from a slice of truffle inside of each dumpling. A nice touch was the presentation by a waitress of appetizers. I liked the wheat gluten (kao fu) but the soy bean sprouts weren't as tasty as in Korean banchan. The stir fried pea shoots were very fresh and tasty!

Yelp
I've never had DTF in the U.S., so I can't compare the two. My only reference was my cousin who said DTF is so much better in LA. Personally, I thought the food here was bomb, with the main two highlights being the truffle xiao long bao and noodles with chinese mustard. I might even try to get DTF in LA because of how good it was, but it wouldn't be worth it if the wait time is similar to the 50-minute wait we endured at this particular location.

Yelp
Of course you need to try Din Tai Fung when you visit here in Taipei. Waited 10min for tiny soupy goodness but all worth it! Tried Shrimp one too. I like this better!! Can't wait to try one in SD soon!

Yelp
As an ABC (American born Chinese), I had to come here and try the xiaolong bao here since I was making a pit stop in Taiwan for a few days. The place is two floors below in the mall building and there's a queue to line up before the mall even opens, but service is FAST. I think they take tips from Japan and it's very apparent at how efficient they are. My sister and I ordered xiao long bao, a bowl of braised beef noodles, watercress spinach, the special appetizer, shrimp fried rice and chicken soup (oh and the chocolate xiaolong bao - how could I forget about desert). The xiaolong bao wasn't that amazing though but the fried rice was really well done. The rice was fluffy and it had enough flavor. The appetizer was pretty good as well. If you're in Taipei, you should check it out for yourself and see if it's worth the hype.

Yelp
Although there are people who consider Din Tai Fung a rather "basic" choice, I think the xiao long bao here are actually quite good and certainly satisfy any craving you might have. Since this is Din Tai Fung we are talking about, prepare to wait for a decent amount of time due to the ridiculous popularity of this chain. Once you're in, you'll notice that there are actually several varieties of xiao long bao that you can order. I had the opportunity to try the original pork soup dumplings, the shrimp and squash, and the truffle dumplings. All three varieties were delicious; however, I thought overall, the original pork is the way to go if you want to experience the characteristic explosion of the soup dumplings. That being said, the truffle dumplings were extremely fragrant and delicious as well (they were also slightly more expensive). Din Tai Fung is a solid choice if you're looking for delicious soup dumplings. In order to avoid the lines, I would recommend going during off-hours (lunch is usually pretty busy).

Yelp
We came out here on a week day afternoon and there was no line or wait at all. I recommend coming out here to the basement of the Mitsukoshi Dept. Store around this time, Do not come out here on the week end at any time because the wait time is long. The food is very good, we ordered the Bao Long Bo- chicken and pork which are excellent. We also ordered chicken fried rice, greens with garlic, sweet and sour pork and drunken wine marinated chicken. I had some Taiwanese Gold Medal beer to go with my meal. All the dishes are excellent and the service is outstanding. They constantly fill your tea cup. The bill came to around $70.00 and there is a service charge of about $3.50. I recommend.

Yelp
Nothing makes me happier than an order of shrimp + gourd dumplings with a side of chicken dumplings. Haters gonna hate but I still love the place...anywhere in the world I might go. Came here a little after the lunchtime and got seated pretty fast...so time it right and come solo or with one other person else you're gonna wait forever for a large table during rush hour.

Yelp
Xiao long bao perfection at Din Tai Fung. So glad to come here without a wait, instead of braving the crowds around the US locations. Nice viewing area to see things freshly prepared. Glad to see other side items prepared classically and very well, like the pea shoots and noodle soups. Great location in the Mitsukoshi department store, surrounded by lots of lovely gourmet food shops (and free samples!).
