The 10 Best Healthy Restaurants in South Florida, 2019 - Eater Miami

"Named after a region in Venezuela, this family-run eatery centers its menu around yogurt made daily on-site. The breakfast menu boasts good-for-you items like the orange bowl with yogurt, orange marmalade, chocolate chips, and coca nibs or the power bircher muesli with yogurt, oats soaked in orange juice, chia, maca, apple, banana, orange, shredded coconut and a super seed blend. For lunch, try the green balance bowls like mung beans and sweet carrot or turmeric cauliflower and tricolor quinoa, both of which come with either yogurt cheese or tahini yogurt dressing. Its yogurt can also be found in some Miami locations like Proper Sausages, Golden Hog, Artisan, and Panther Coffee." - Alona Martinez

Yelp
Best Feta cheese salad ever! The hot matcha latte was perfect with it. Warm comfortable seating in clean upscale shopping center.

Yelp
Pleasant experience at the French influenced cafe, even with the busy Sunday morning crowd. The prompt service, tasty meal and cozy decor was key factors with my positive visit. The server, Janette, was efficient and the food met my expectations, especially the fluffy pancakes and well prepared eggs with bacon and a side-car of maple syrup. The price of $12 for a meal like that seemed reasonable. The bathroom was well maintained and modern, with nice touches like the gray and white marble flooring including an affixed automated hand dryer. It's always a good sign when a cafe pays attention to the cleanliness and details in areas like the restroom, especially in a busy setting, which enhanced the overall ambiance of the cafe.

Yelp
The food was good here. The service was also good. I would equate Borsalino to an upscale Cuban venue. They have some innovative takes on traditional Cuban dishes. What I liked most is there fresh squeezed juices. They also had coffee. The lavender latte was amazing. I am not really a fan of the coffee they use. I had a double expresso and it was just okay. The salmon Bagel sandwich was great. I had a short Rib open faced sandwich. On this occasion the short ribs were dry. It was like a pulled beef, but dry. I think they were having an off day. On another note, I saw other patrons with rice bowls and they looked amazing and the portions were quite generous. All in all, a great experience.

Yelp
Tried this place a few times to give a fair chance. It is very warm and inviting to go into. For me, that was the best part of this cafe. Menus are on paper that is both worn with very tiny print. It's on a clip board which isn't very user friendly. When you order coffee, they serve a small cup and do not come back to top off or ask if you need cream. The menu sounds better than it tasted. For a very small restaurant with few tables, you'd think they would come back to check to see if anything else is needed. They were out of their potato's so substituted lettuce with the eggs. Would not go back for a third try, not when there are many other good options available in the area.

Yelp
Cute breakfast/brunch spot located in plantation off university next to the LA fitness. Plenty of parking and they offer both inside and outside seating. Service was friendly and drinks/food came out in a timely manner. I tried the cinnamon bun latte , which was tasty and not too sweet. For breakfast I had the pancake and eggs, unfortunately the first plate came out with an obvious long hair on it- but it was quickly taken back to kitchen and a new plate was made. My girlfriend had the truffle potato and eggs which smelled and looked great! Portion sizes and prices were good! I would definitely go back!

Yelp
My friend and I decided to have brunch and we were met with very great service. Our server was very attentive and made sure to check on us constantly. The ambience of the places like upscale coffeehouse. It was very nice and chic. I love a clean look in a restaurant. I will say that my Matcha latte was good, but I wasn't the biggest fan of my Borsellino breakfast sandwich. The reason being is because the croissant was so greasy. When I was reading the menu, I expected something different on my plate and that is not what I thought it would be. This place is recommended for a little date, brunch, taking your furry companion as they do have outside seating, and maybe a group of 5 to 6 people. I would give this place a second chance to me because I felt like the particular item wasn't up to par for me ..

Yelp
I had a solid breakfast I picked up to go... I ordered the following : Cuban Pork Benedict Bougatsa Lavender Latte Soo yummy! And worth a try if you are in the area. For those dining in, enjoy and happy dining!

The Black Rabbit O.

Yelp
Food was excellent. I had the smoked salmon and egg croissant. The croissant was probably the best I've tasted so far. Really crispy. However, my hash brown was missing the white sauce with capers that is shown in the menu picture. Despite this, we still thought everything was great. The orange, carrot and ginger fruit juice was fresh and tasty. The dishes have picked onions which give them a nice tangy flavor. We tried the lavender coffee and mocha coffee and they were good too. My mom had an egg omelette which was really big. She liked it. The place is small but there's seating both inside and outside. We would return here again.

Yelp
It was OK. I loved the coffee best. I ended up ordering the Montecristo sandwich, nothing like a regular Montcristo. The service was good though, our server was attentive and sweet. Ambiance is very warm and welcoming, quiet too. Not sure if I'd be back for more.

Yelp
Borsalino has a bold and cozy atmosphere, perfect for anyone looking to change up their scenery while working remotely. I tried the chicken pesto (no bacon) and a fresh green juice, both made to perfection. My server, Sarah, was amazing and made the experience even more enjoyable.

Yelp
Went in to do some work and get some lunch and coffee on a weekday afternoon. It was the perfect atmosphere to zone in on my work and also enjoy myself. Was there for a few hours. The ambiance was really nice, very chill and cute inside. Definitely a small place. But the staff were super friendly, and my Chicken BLT with Arugula salad was delicious. Definitely would recommend.

Yelp
How many overhyped brunch+lunch cafes can you find in south Florida? Too many. And how many can deliver on every pretty much every category? Not many at all! Borsalino is the real deal. A charming bistro cafe setting, chill vibe, lovely wait staff, and absolutely excellent menu: Check, check, and check! I cannot understate how wonderful Borsalinos menu is. This isn't your ordinary throw an egg on top brunch menu. From the omelets, breakfast platters, montecristo, and even croissant Nutella French toast....every menu item seems to come with a creative twist. The smoked salmon croissant is good as advertised: beautifully smoked salmon, wasabi mayo, pickled onions, and cherry tomatoes nestled in a soft and crispy buttery croissant. It simply hits the spot. Did I forget to mention the refreshing homemade juices? Borsalino shines where so many other brunch spots miss the mark. Sure atmosphere is important, but a great menu over everything!

Yelp
A daytime eatery that hits the mark! Parking: It is in a strip mall with ample parking, even if you have to walk a bit! Drinks: they have a great selection of natural juices made from scratch! Food: a wide selection of breakfast and brunch offerings. Pancakes, eggs, croissants, potatoes, meats, etc. I dined solo and had green juice, the borsalino breakfast. Both were top notch! Service: service was good, friendly and quick. Atmosphere/vibe: it is a small spot that also offers Al fresco dining. The decor on the inside is really cool - looks like a speak easy. There is a large table outside that can host a large party. Also many smaller tables outside. The view is of the parking lot so not much to see but still offers good people watching! It is casual. There is an LA Fitness next door and many people stop here for a healthy post gym meal. Age group: all ages but didn't see any small kids but I think they would enjoy and be welcomed! Bathroom: clean as a whistle Return: yep,for sure

Yelp
We were actually planning on going somewhere else; and then we ended up trying this place by accident. What a great find! It's in a strip shopping center on University Drive, just a few blocks north of Peters Road. They are open for breakfast and lunch; with plenty of indoor seating and sidewalk dining. Decor is very cute. It's considered a "coffee bar," but they actually have a very attentive wait staff. When we first received our menus we couldn't believe how many food and drink options there were: salads, sandwiches, omelets, and the usual breakfast items like French toast and pancakes. I decided on the bacon, cheese, jalapeño omelet, without the jalapeño. It was cooked to perfection! There was lots of bacon and it was very cheesy. It also came with a yummy small arugula side salad. The price wasn't bad at $14. My mom had the Nutella croissant French toast. It looked and sounded so good, and she loved it. It was loaded with Nutella and also just $14. She couldn't finish it. In addition to all the usual coffee and tea options; they also had a few wine and beer options. My mom had a nice glass of Pinot Grigio with her breakfast. It may have been our first time here; but it certainly won't be our last!

Yelp
Food , service & ambiance was great! 10/10 would recommend & definitely come again! You can taste the quality. Love all the options & how you're able to modify without any trouble.

Yelp
We tried this place out after walking by going to Zona Fresca and Fit Life. This is our honest opinion. We stopped here to grab something quick after the gym and before going shopping in the Fountains. We walked inside and it was loud. Wow. Super loud. I definitely think they either need to play some kind of background music or put some noise deadening in the dining room. The tile and walls just make it unbearable. We asked immediately to just go outside. Our table was wobbly, not a great table to try and eat on...but oh well. My water spilled as the table rocked back and forth. The green juice was a waste of money. It tasted like celery juice. It lacked any flavor and the glass was chock full of ice. My red juice came out, then the waitress picked it up without explanation and talked to herself as she walked away with it. Ten minutes later she came back with my red juice. It was WAY better than the green juice but again, the glass was filled to the top with ice. Not worth it! We ordered the Borsalino breakfast and the platter. The potato hash thing that came on the side was not good. The eggs were good, the sausage and bacon were good on the platter. The tables do not have basic condiments like salt and pepper, we could not ask for any either since we were outside and there weren't servers asking if needed anything. The sandwich was good. My toast on my platter came dry, barely toasted and no butter or jam. I had to ask for jam and it taste like basic grape jelly. Blah. I wanted to like this place but it was a miss for me. Hopefully they read these criticisms and continue to improve their business.

Yelp
Cute cafe in Plantation! Love the decor inside. Staff were very friendly. Looked like an extensive menu. Located right next to Publix and La fitness with plenty of parking. Enjoyed a matcha latte. A little on the pricy side.

Yelp
My family and I stopped in at Borsalino in Plantation after seeing it advertised on Yelp, and I'm really glad we did! This is a great brunch place with some delicious food and coffee. Now, normally I'm a sweet brunch gal. Unfortunately pretty much every sweet option at Borsalino had nuts, so they were off-limits for me. However after looking at the savory menu and tasting the food, I didn't miss it too much! My smoked salmon croissant was flawless - perfectly flaky croissant, deliciously salty salmon, I even enjoyed the pickled red onions (something I almost always remove). The potato galette was really nice too, with the capers and lemon dill sauce. Portions were huge, easily something that could be shared. I also LOVED the chai spiced latte I got. The staff initially did make a small mistake and brought it to me iced, however they quickly remade it for me and it was fantastic. Really rich espresso, nice frothy top, with a lovely depth of flavor from the spices. I sampled some of my table's cuban pork benedict and seared ahi tuna sandwich, and both were delicious. The pork was so tender and had great flavor, and I loved the flavor of the tuna with the nori sprinkled on top. The interior kind of feels like you're sitting in someone's living room - it's cozy, and invites you to camp out. I think this would be a great place to get some work done during the week, or to come sit and catch up with friends over the weekend.

Yelp
INCREDIBLE . If I could have it at that, I would, but I'll elaborate. Ran here from Pembroke Pines for some great breakfast food. Its in a plaza with plenty of parking. It's small, compared to some of the more well known breakfast spots (First Watch) with seating mostly for 2/4 parties. We arrived around 1230 on a Saturday and were seated right away. Wouldn't recommend this place for large groups. Staff was quite pleasant and time efficient. The space itself was really well decorated and really fit that late Sunday morning, chill vibe. The FOOD. I did not expect this quality from this little place. Reading the menu, they were throwing around words like "truffle oil", "short ribs", "tartine" and "monte Cristo" and I was skeptical if a small place like this could deliver. Well, They. Freaking. Did. I got the short rib tartine and the flavors were . Everything cooked perfectly, even my sunny side up eggs were perfectly runny without the egg white being gross. My boyfriend got the monte Cristo and it had this delicate citrus flavor that was so delicious. We also enjoyed an iced lavender latte and cinnamon bun latte and it was the first time my boyfriend has found coffee he likes since becoming an at home barista. Definitely get out here and give these guys your business, they're doing it right!

Yelp
I love Borsalino! It's tucked in right next to LA Fitness and it's a great casual spot for brunch. I love the outdoor seating option but the inside is so tastefully decorated. Everything we order is always delicious. Today was Cuban pork Benedict. My favorite thing so far was the short rib tartine! This spot is perfect for a small party of four. It's a pretty small space and they can accommodate more if needed. Service was great and food came out quickly!

Yelp
Food was good I got the yogurt and granola and it was awesome , we also order a hot cocoa and the potatoes breakfast

Yelp
Came for a coffee and place to read, staff is really friendly and attentive, prices for drinks aren't bad at all. Interior is nice. I ordered a flat white and it was lukewarm, foam over-steamed, and espresso burnt. I would probably not order the same thing if I were ever to come back
google avatar

Yelp
Nutella pancakes are the size for a child; pancakes were dense premade frozen afterthoughts disguised/frowned under syrup and Nutella; avocado smash toast bread soggy not toasted Servers are busy on their phones should learn some hospitality treatment

Yelp
Cute, quaint little cafe in the LA Fitness plaza. I've passed here several times but overlooked it until I needed to use the Tesla charging station and wanted someone nearby to eat. So glad I tried this place bc I was pleasantly surprised. The coffee. Bomb. For breakfast, I did the truffle potato egg something? It was really good but I think next time I'll say hold the pesto or at least very little as that was overwhelming for me. If you happen to be nearby, give it a try!
google avatar

Yelp
Another great help find. The food is fresh and delicious along with a refreshing ice coffee. Service was great! Bali was helpful and efficient with his service. The place is cute and a really nice place to enjoy brunch without all the craziness.
google avatar

Mark V.

Yelp
Been here a few times, and usually, both the service and food are on point. However, service was way off today. Waters were never refilled, and the server only checked in when it was time to check out. The food took longer than usual to be prepared, and there was an unannounced substitution on one dish. The charm of Borsalino wore off a bit today.
google avatar

Marinel D.

Yelp
Very cozy spot. I ordered the Borsalino Breakfast which was delicious. The side of potato it came with had a lot of pepper for my liking but none the less delicious. The pancake was fluffy and moist. And I highly recommend the White chocolate iced Latte. It was so good I ordered 2 of them! The server was very attentive and quickly noticed our food was taking a little longer than usual due to their printer being down. Over all my experience there was great and will be back.

Yelp
Service was good, I had the beef sandwich it wasn't bad don't think I would order again though wasn't really memorable.

Yelp
I came in on a Tuesday at 9:30am. It wasn't too full- there were 3 tables taken. The decoration was very nice and fancy, but also had cozy vibes with the touches of a rug for example. I was greeted immediately with a smile. The menu looked amazing. I wanted to try everything but decided on the Avocado Smash Toast and a hot oat milk latte with sugar free vanilla syrup. Coffee was served first with a cute heart as design! I love coffee art !!! :) It didn't take long before food was served. It was DELICIOUS. I enjoyed every single bite and did not want it to end. The price was fair. Overall, excellent food and service. Can't ask for more!
google avatar

Stuart M.

Yelp
' a excellent option for breakfast. Just be advised that some of the portions are quite large. Our eggs, potatoes, and truffles are a good example. If you have a huge appetite, go for it. Otherwise there are plenty of other good options. Our second dish was an example. A bacon egg roll with fried onions on a brioche. Also very tasty, but with a more manageable portion size. Their coffees are top notch. Eat here with confidence. The service was great as well.
google avatar

Sonia K.

Yelp
My friends and I checked out this local place for the first time and really enjoyed their iced lattes and breakfast dishes. The iced lavender latte was delicious with strong flavor from the coffee and lavender and served in a fun glass. I enjoyed it with a greek omelette that was super fluffy and stuffed with olives, tomato, onions, and feta cheese. It is super cute and clean inside with both table and sofa seating. The service is great here because the staff are very friendly and attentive.

Yelp
I was at a hair salon close by and wanted to get some breakfast on the way home. I saw this little gem with their fantastic menu and pictures of their food - I could not resist! While I only did take out, the atmosphere of this restaurant was so great! Lots of people which is a good sign. Everyone was very nice and I was in and out quickly! Will be back

Yelp
The food here is always great! Their coffee selections (both hot and iced) are wonderful and flavorful. Their breakfast options always have amazing presentation and great flavors. We sat outside this morning to enjoy the breeze on their patio and enjoy the food. Always consistent with the food and always delicious.
google avatar

Jackie S.

Yelp
This is my go to breakfast/brunch place when I don't have reservations anywhere else. They have indoor and outdoor seating. For some reason they always have availability yet the service and food are quality. The ahi tuna avocado pesto bowl was tasty. It was a generous portion as I had enough to take home for later. Not pictured here during another visit, I had the truffle potato and eggs. That's my absolute favorite and definitely recommend! It also has a pesto sauce and large shavings of parm. The Nutella croissant French toast was a bit too sweet for my taste. Also pictured the Borsellino juice is very refreshing.
google avatar

Yelp
NO vegan, NO gluten-free despite what it says. Personally went in today and the hostess confirmed they have nothing but lettuce.

Yelp
I'm a huge fan of the Ft. Lauderdale location by the Waverley near to the River Walk and have been a few times while here in Ft. Lauderdale. Today, I was going to the Flamingo Garden so this spot was much closer to the destination for me. It's much smaller but with the same, classy vibe. It's right beside an LA Fitness in a big shopping complex with tons of parking and a nearby Publix. After trying the Salmon Sandwich and the Avocado toast the last few days I opted for a sweeter breakfast option with the overnight oats. They were OK but I suggest sticking to the breakfast croissant sandwiches here with eggs, that's where they really shine. They're amazing. Like all bougie coffee shops, there are up charges everywhere. $1 for caramel in an already $6 macchiato, $2 for butter and jam for the $3 croissant. All these little things add up to an expensive breakfast. Pace here is much more fast with a lot of turnover - the other location is quieter and people tend to hang out. Staff were also much friendlier there. Overall - good - but prefer the first location I tried more.

Yelp
Popped into the cutest lil coffee shop while running errands the other day. I was greeted with the warmest welcome upon entering. The ambiance is super inviting and cozy. I did not have time to sit and order a meal, but I must say it was the most delicious iced coffee I've had in a long time. I will definitely be back to try other items from their menu. Love discovering great mom & pop places to support here in Plantation.

Yelp
Great service!! Luis was great from the beginning to the end. The food was exquisite! He recommended one of their most popular plate. Definitely spreading the word and coming back with friends and family.

Yelp
My gal pal and I met here for our monthly brunch on a Saturday around 11:30 a.m. We were told there were no tables available inside (only about 20 can fit) and that we needed a reservation. So, we ate outside. (It was a very warm day.) She had the short rib tartine, and I had the Nutella Hotcakes with a side of pork belly. I tasted my friend's meal, which consisted of a slice of thick bread, a layer of meat, eggs, cheese, and hollandaise sauce with a side salad. It was tasty. My Nutella Hotcakes consisted of four small pancakes topped with Nutella, coconut, granola, nuts, and a mere sprinkling (you could count them, 2 blueberries and a strawberry) of berries. The pancakes were very thick, and even though they had great toppings, at times I would be chewing on a thick piece of dough. I had to reach for some maple syrup. (I don't care for maple syrup.) The pork belly was flavorful, but a bit dry. Our bill was $45 for the two meals (no coffee, no beverages), including tax and tip. The place was packed and people kept coming and going. The server was very apologetic that we had to eat outdoors in the heat. I thought the food was OK (but a tad pricey for the serving size), and I was not bowled over by anything I ate.

Yelp
Thank heavens for other Yelpers because they led me to this place on my to way Sawgrass Mall. It's better than advertised. A small beautiful bright space serving fresh delicious breakfast/brunch/lunch food with attentive and friendly service. I would get into the specifics of how great the food is and what I ordered but I'm going to let my pictures do the talking.
google avatar

Yelp
If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I visited this location today to have brunch with a friend. When we walked in a young lady said, "sit wherever you want", (the space is very small and it was approx 80% full). After 5 min or so a tall, thin man came up to us. We thought he was going to take our order. Instead he came to tell us that we were sitting in an area meant for bigger groups so if a group were to come in we would have to get up and go sit outside ( the temp was about 100 degrees so no one was sitting outside on this day). Needless to say we got up and left since this business is willing to treat poorly the customers it already has for the ones that may never be.

Yelp
Such a cute and friendly cafe! Easy to sit down and have a meal/coffee or take coffee to go. I was immediately greeted when I walked in and the staff was attentive to me right away and explained their menu options. I came in to do to-go coffee and I couldn't have been happier. Within a minute or two of ordering, my drink was already ready. I did a pumpkin spice latte with coconut milk and it wasn't overly sweet which is what I prefer. Just a hint of pumpkin spice to actual coffee. The coffee itself was delicious. Definitely worth a stop and I will be coming back for food next!

Yelp
Located in the same plaza as the LA Fitness in Plantation, this cozy, elegantly decorated establishment is super charming for friends gatherings, a light brunch, or just some morning coffee. I originally went in to get my morning coffee. But ended up getting the avocado smash toast also. The staff was very friendly also! I'd highly recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
I LOVE Borsalino! Everything is amazing. Authentic Greek food, spanakopita and bougatsa made in house! One is a spinach pie with herbs and feta wrapped in filo dough, and the other is a custard wrapped in filo and sprinkled with cinnamon. Delicious! Pair it with a Freddo cappuccino. The best coffee! Enjoy this neighborhood gem. Kali orexi!

Yelp
Very cute space. A peaceful place to study, read, or grab a bite to eat with their indoor or outdoor seating. The food was great and fresh. The best iced chai I've had in a while. I received great customer service here as well. Definitely will be going back.

Yelp
I chose to try this place based on their good reviews and I was EXTREMELY disappointed. My sister and I ordered a lavender latte, the chicken BTL and the truffle potatoes and eggs. The lavender latte was delicious, so I had high hopes for the food. I received the truffle potatoes and eggs, tried it, and noticed that the potatoes were very hard, dry, and tasted stale. I had my sister try a bite to get her opinion on it and she said the potatoes tasted as if they are bad. I apologized to the waitress and asked if I may please order something else. The owner then came to the table and said to me "I am going to comp the truffle potatoes, but if you do not like this next dish you will have to pay for it." I had not even received the replacement dish and was confused why he felt the need to have this conversation. I explained to the owner that I felt he was making an issue before there was an issue and I had no intentions of going through his entire menu, trying dishes and then sending them back. But I do not feel that I should be expected to pay for a dish where there is an item that literally tasted stale. This argument continued for a few minutes before I told him I did not want to order anything else because I feel like he has created an issue that was not going to be an issue. The waitress was mortified by the owners behavior and apologized profusely. I left this restaurant humiliated, feeling belittled and angry that this even occurred. I have never had an owner approach me the way he has and I will never go back here or recommend someone to go here! Spend your money somewhere else that will treat you with respect and won't create a problem that was never a problem.

Yelp
dropped in after a gym workout and grabbed a quick coffee. It was actually really good. def wanna return and try other things on the menu. Staff was friendly and quick which was also a plus.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing! We were looking for a quick bite to eat and Borsalino did not disappoint. I got a lavender latte- delicious. Soft, creamy, and a wonderful balance between the lavender flavor and espresso. My sandwich was great too. Love the mixture of ham and bacon and two eggs! I would suggest getting a side of the wasabi mayo (I personally like a sauce on my egg sandwiches). We also loved that the sandwiches came with sides. Service was quick, and the inside is spacious yet cozy.

Yelp
Cute drop in spot for breakfast ! Amazing prices and cute vibes ! I will go back for sure
