I wasn't expecting this at all! No seriously, my sister gave no warning that we would be entering a fashionable restaurant for her celebratory dinner. So in we went to this gorgeous room with finished and unfinished looks blending together splendidly. Underdressed or not, a good time was on the horizon.
Our server was amazing at dealing with the large group people. She listened to everyone, made good suggestions, served well and checked in with us at all the appropriate times. If anyone can fend off my cousin's jokes, I'm impressed.
We ordered a bottle of champagne for the table and a few Ace bread baskets with olive oil and wine. Starving, each bread basket laid on the table was devoured in no time. Weird that a place like this charges for the bread but it was nice to have something to munch on before the appetizers.
I ordered the baby eggplant as a starter that came loaded up with onion, beef, mushrooms and parmesan cheese. Not only was it incredibly cute but it was delicious and I savoured every bite. There were a few spring greens alongside and that was fun and tasty to mix in as well. I definitely sopped up those juiced with some more bread.
What did I have for a main, you ask? This was intense. Not at first because when I took my first glance at the half rack of lamb I thought it wouldn't be enough. But sure enough it was and the flavours going on were amazing. Rack of lamb with citrus yogurt (separate little bowl), creamed spinach and curry lentil, wild rice, orzo, currant salad. I was mixing and matching and mashing all the flavours together and every combination worked. The lamb was cooked to a perfect and juicy medium rare. The racks themselves were lovely to look at, almost dainty and pretty with their cute size. Each morsel was a treat.
When it comes to dessert, it's best to just say yes to whole menu. So we did! After the waitress repeated the offerings to us about six times, we ordered it all up. I found them to be good on the whole though nothing was outstanding to me. Various chocolate cakes, mousses, etc. topped with a gooseberry. The only surprise was the Greek yogurt but it would have done even better if there was something in there to cut through it, make it more desserty- maybe just more of the burnt almonds and honey.
Any whosers, don't you want to eat all this? Of course, you do. I suggest you do.
