The Best Bars and Pubs in Ottawa and Gatineau | Eater Montreal

"The name might be uninspired (it’s literally the address of the bar), but 107 Fourth Avenue has done a tidy job serving Glebe dwellers affordable and interesting wines without obscene mark-ups for over 15 years — a warm, unpretentious winner with some tasty snacks, too." - Tim Forster

Google
Really nice spot! We have been many times before but this is the first time leaving a review. We sat at the bar which was really nice! Food and atmosphere are both amazing and makes you want to come back! We will DEFINITELY continue coming back that is for sure!

I came here with my boyfriend for Friday date night, and we had a great time! We ordered two glasses of white wine and two pizzas, and we thoroughly enjoyed everything. I loved the Grove Mill Sauvignon Blanc (fruity with a clean finish) and would recommend! You might miss this place if you aren’t looking for it (especially in the winter), but the cozy atmosphere and friendly service are well worth seeking out. I’ll be back!

Small and cozy bar. Margerita is not good. Wines are good. Menu is limited but the few existing on it is good. Hallumi and bacon wrapped dates are interesting. Frites are not good. Pizzas could be tried..

Great , cozy and relaxed atmosphere. Amazing and tasty food. The cheese platter, grilled halloumi and chocolate desert were excellent, served quickly and with friendly smiles. One glass of wine led to a bottle...Sensational wine and drink menu. A hidden gem in the Glebe.

Google
Not a wine bar as suggested, just a small restaurant that has wine. My red was served warm and with a piece of cork in it. Service was very slow. Music/atmosphere not great. Ended up leaving to go to better spot instead of ordering food as we had intended.

Julia has been our fav for so long until now…Melanie, you are the perfect blend of humour and amazing service. Thanks for a great evening and we will back to see both of you.

I was here on a Wednesday evening for a few drinks. The staff are friendly and they’ve got a great selection of wine and cocktails. I would love to come back

Yelp
We were looking for a place to sit outside and enjoy a light dinner. This was the perfect spot. The appetizer and cheese board were lovely. The staff friendly and inviting. Overall, a very pleasant evening!

Yelp
Awesome little spot for lunch with a diverse list of wines sold by the glass or bottle. We stopped in here and it was very quaint and quiet mid afternoon. Intimate, the server was very attentive.

Yelp
This place was great for me personally, as it was my birthday night which is usually a holiday and I figure maybe it was a bit quieter that night/not as crowded. The atmosphere of the place is very nice if you like dim lighting. Though it might not be for everyone. It's a small place and feels quite cozy; would be great on an off-night to just wind down and have a good conversation with someone one-on-one - the music is not too loud. The waitress who served us was very nice and happy, very pleasant to be around, and dessert ended up being on the house because she heard it was my birthday! Pleasant surprise, didn't expect it :) The food itself was great. The dessert I think the waitress said may be different depending on the night? But I had chocolate mousse with chocolate bark, super yummy. Their steak sandwich was really good with the mushrooms and the fries that came with it were addictive! Great night overall!

Yelp
Very cool little place. Sort of out of the way from the main street so it has a bit of intrigue to it. The decor is cool, with a combination of cozy living room and robots? (you'll see if you go). Plus the music selection was perfect for the mood. The wine list is well rounded with some great cocktails and liquors if you're not big on wine (I recommend the pink lemon spritzer). The menu is comprised of a number of staples as well as other dishes that change depending on available produce. I think the prices of some menu items are a bit high, but I got the charcuterie and it was a great value for the portions and quality. All of that being said, I do find it a bit annoying that they don't seem to have their cafe menu posted anywhere.

Yelp
I wasn't expecting this at all! No seriously, my sister gave no warning that we would be entering a fashionable restaurant for her celebratory dinner. So in we went to this gorgeous room with finished and unfinished looks blending together splendidly. Underdressed or not, a good time was on the horizon. Our server was amazing at dealing with the large group people. She listened to everyone, made good suggestions, served well and checked in with us at all the appropriate times. If anyone can fend off my cousin's jokes, I'm impressed. We ordered a bottle of champagne for the table and a few Ace bread baskets with olive oil and wine. Starving, each bread basket laid on the table was devoured in no time. Weird that a place like this charges for the bread but it was nice to have something to munch on before the appetizers. I ordered the baby eggplant as a starter that came loaded up with onion, beef, mushrooms and parmesan cheese. Not only was it incredibly cute but it was delicious and I savoured every bite. There were a few spring greens alongside and that was fun and tasty to mix in as well. I definitely sopped up those juiced with some more bread. What did I have for a main, you ask? This was intense. Not at first because when I took my first glance at the half rack of lamb I thought it wouldn't be enough. But sure enough it was and the flavours going on were amazing. Rack of lamb with citrus yogurt (separate little bowl), creamed spinach and curry lentil, wild rice, orzo, currant salad. I was mixing and matching and mashing all the flavours together and every combination worked. The lamb was cooked to a perfect and juicy medium rare. The racks themselves were lovely to look at, almost dainty and pretty with their cute size. Each morsel was a treat. When it comes to dessert, it's best to just say yes to whole menu. So we did! After the waitress repeated the offerings to us about six times, we ordered it all up. I found them to be good on the whole though nothing was outstanding to me. Various chocolate cakes, mousses, etc. topped with a gooseberry. The only surprise was the Greek yogurt but it would have done even better if there was something in there to cut through it, make it more desserty- maybe just more of the burnt almonds and honey. Any whosers, don't you want to eat all this? Of course, you do. I suggest you do.

Yelp
Good food, service is meh. The food was great, lots of by the wine selection. I have sat at the bar on several occasions and I am skeptical about how fast they move their wine. It is a wine bar so having a good selection by the glass is a must, however with the number they have, and with the amount they seemed to be moving, I really wonder how long those bottles are open for before they are finished, and if they are serving wine that is oxidized at the end of it all. I don't seem them finishing those bottles in three days, which I think should be the limit for wine to be served in a resto. the server was snobby, didn't seem to know much about the wine on the list beyond little bits like 'the owner likes it' (well I hope the owner likes it or I would wonder why it's on the list.) Absolutely nothing from Prince Edward county because they've "never liked anything from there" AS IF this blonde didn't seem to know anything about wine so I wonder how she could judge a whole county's worth of wine? Heavily old world wine, I'm guessing that's what the owner prefers, because there was little from New world countries, and I don't think they really had anything Canadian. For a wine bar they aren't covering a huge selection of styles of wine and I don't think they're really thinking about keeping their product fresh either. An enomatic would be a great choice but I think this place is very low-tech so maybe just cutting down their by the glass program a bit would be a good idea. I would suggest splitting a bottle of something fun

Yelp
Nice, intimate space. Okay wine list. Correct but unremarkable steak frites. Highlight was friendly efficient servers. Bit this place is too small and too classy for drunken boors yelling eff bombs and smoking by the front door. This is not a sports bar.

Yelp
This is my go-to restaurant in Ottawa. It's a small friendly upscale place, mostly frequented by locals, a few steps from Bank Street. In good weather there is a cozy deck at the back (it's there in bad weather too, just not as much fun). The servers are great, the wine list is good and the steak frites is awesome.

Yelp
Who has a wine bar in a retrofitted house? These folks do! We walk up to this relatively nondescript house just off of the popular bank street and enter into another world. The place is downright sexy - brick, low lighting, a long bar, leather furniture and what I think it a patio off the back. Their menu was pretty extensive with respect to food and drink! We had a cocktail and some wine and topped things off with a pecan / pumpkin tartlet with a side of sheeps milk ice cream. Solid way to end our night, but we would gladly start and maybe stay all night next time. Also - the music was awesome too which really brought the experience home. The only reason why it lost a star in my books : they have a cocktail menu ( awesome) but they weren't super creative with them...switch it up a bit and I will be back!

Yelp
This is a cozy upscale restaurant with pricey wine and food, but it has a nice atmosphere. They have a full bar, which more prominently sells at least 30 wines by the glass or bottle. The high prices make this a place of indulgence or maybe somewhere to go to dress up, have a relaxing drink and sit with your friends or date. The dark and intimate atmosphere also makes this a great location for getting close to someone. They have a patio that looks onto Fourth Avenue and a back deck that are both licensed year round, but they're not heated. I'd also suggest dressing up a bit when you go. When I went awhile ago, my friend and I wore jeans and we were treated with some snobbery.

Yelp
Tight little wine bar/bistro with a huge, and I mean huge, selection of wines. Love hanging out here and taking in the various flavours from the kitchen. The bartender has a good sense of humour and he kept us giggling the whole night. I'll of course continue to frequent this little hidden gem and I can happily recommend this tiny little place to anyone looking for an upscale hangout. By the way, It's so small and tucked away that if you blink you will miss it so stay sharp while looking for it!

Yelp
Cute, cozy bar set in a row house in the Glebe. This place could serve as both a romantic date venue or a spot to meet up with friends. Diverse wine list and the tapas/appetizers complement the drinks well (particularly the cheese plate and baguette). The bar staff are extremely patient and helpful. A lovely place to spend an evening, weeknight or weekend, summer or winter.

Yelp
Great selection of wine. Good food. Friendly and attentive service. My wife and I come here every few months to relax after work. This is what a small neighbourhood wine bar should be.

Yelp
I enjoyed the food, drink and atmosphere here very much. I plan to return and have told many people about it. Highly recommended

Yelp
Nice place with pretty reasonable prices. I sat outside so I can't comment on the atmosphere.
