10th Mountain Division Hut

We visited Froelichers hut which is one of the many beautiful 10th mountain division huts! With a exciting hike up to the Hut that perfectly accommodates the adventure of the wilderness around you!

A hike up but beautiful scenery and flowers. The hut is closed unless you have a reservation. The composting outhouses are open.

Drove to the trail head with a good chance of snow in the forecast. Beautiful Four mile (+/-) ski and snowshoe in to the Hut. We started at the gravel pit and parked down the road about a half mile. The trail is well marked with blue diamonds. We used the tracks downloaded from the 10th Mountain Division website on our phone GPS. We found it most helpful since the trail was under fresh snow. The cabin is beautiful and cozy. Accommodates 16 comfortably with one main bedroom area and two showrooms. It snowed another two feet while we were there and had to shovel the walkway to the outhouse. Water was easily available by melting snow and the hand pumped cistern. There are plenty of gas burners to heat water and cook on. Great family FUN....

Great spacious hut, beautiful views, all the necessities you’d need- but very rough road & very stinky bathroom.

2 overnights here, christmas 2016 - what a wonderful place. great skiing, did homestake peak. Great hut!
