A Chile Road Trip on the I-25 from Las Cruces to Denver | Eater

"A small Raton café that can run out of food midday but offers comforting drinks like hot chocolate and regional sweets such as green chile piñon brittle; staff note many good local places close early on certain days." - Gustavo Arellano

Google
I so wanted to like this place, but I was very disappointed. I had looked all morning for coffee during my travels, and saw this place on the map. The location is cute and gives a "old town saloon" vibe, but unfortunately the coffee was terrible. I ordered the salted caramel mocha, iced, but it came out tasting like pure chocolate milk, with a clump of caramel on the bottom, and not even a hint of coffee. It was so disgusting that I threw 80% of it away. If you're looking for actual coffee, look elsewhere.

Google
This place used to be really good. Unfortunately the last 2 times we’ve been there we had to have them make remake our coffees. Today I ordered a raspberry latte and when my husband brought it to me it was soooo sweet, a bright pink color and barely tasted like coffee. I called and had it remade and as you can see in the picture I basically received flavored milk, still not a coffee taste. I think they need to reevaluate their coffee recipes and have better training for their employees. I used to really love this place unfortunately I won’t be back.

Google
Sausage biscuit was tasty. Fluffy biscuit with a sausage patty and cheese. Coffee was good and so was the spicy Chai.

David Torres

Google
Nice area. Cool shady spots are hard to find. Great coffee and vibes.

Google
Cute spot just off the highway cutting through town, I got a breve and an apple danish just after seeing the KT Boundary exposure nearby. The coffee was average, just a little too much half and half that buried the flavor of the espresso compared to other breves I have had. The pastry was just the dose of sugar I needed for an early morning, but it didn't seem very fresh. The baristas were cheery and the interior decor made for a very relaxing atmosphere. Oh, and the seating was quite comfortable—that was quite nice for my sore ass, which had driven halfway across the country by the time I visited this cafe

Google
Great atmosphere! My frappe wasn’t too sweet, and the cinnamon roll was drool worthy.

Google
Very cute place, and the coffee was delicious. I would expect to wait 20 minutes or longer for food. We ordered a breakfast sandwich and a parfait and it took more than 20 minutes to get out, despite there seeming to be an abundance of employees. The sandwich had eggs, sausage, and cheese, and the parfaits were pre-made.

Google
Limited menu, but we had delicious breakfast sandwiches and burrito. Nice place to get off the highway and have a coffee. The music was a bonus, nice emo rock, so thanks for helping us feel at home.

Yelp
Delicious lunch/brunch spot. The breakfast burrito and the waffle sandwich were especially good. The employee was very kind and allowed my family to order breakfast even though it was a few minutes past breakfast time. Quality stop!

Scott E.

Yelp
Food was inconsistebt. Prices were fine. It took over 1/2 hour to receive 3 sandwiches and a bug ran across the table prior to the meal. The staff was friendly which is a saving grace.

Yelp
Jeckle and Hyde waitress profiled and was openly surly/hostile ... followed by overly friendly to the next guess ... her type. We were made so feel so uncomfortable we left immediately!.

Yelp
Husband and I stopped here on our roadtrip to Denver. Super cute coffee shop that looks like it was built into an old bar. Staff wasn't very friendly which is why I gave it 3 stars. I would have liked to ask questions about what they recommend or pastries but they didn't seem interested in helping outside of taking our order. I had an americano and husband had a latte. Pretty basic but tasted good. I don't think we'll stop on our next trip through as it wasn't anything special.

Yelp
We always enjoy dropping in here on our way to Colorado from Texas. And on Saturday Dec 28 it did not disappoint.

Yelp
Warm and friendly! Tons of locals in the cutest down town area! Yummy biscuit sausage sandwich! Highly recomend

Yelp
As always, delicious food (we had paninis and tomato soup today). Fresh brewed iced tea. Adorable spot with families, locals meeting, travelers stopping. Service was slow today, but friendly!

Yelp
What a lovely discovery: a great cafe atmosphere and an in-the-know owner in an especially welcoming rural community! I had an unexpected encounter with the Owner of 111 Park Espresso Bar and with Raton's City Manager--and they shared much about the City of Raton's intriguing history and promising future. I'll be back!!!

Robyn R.

Yelp
Grabbed a sandwich on our way through town. They were busy, but we got our sandwiches quickly. Good flavor

Yelp
stopped here on our way through for lunch. most of us had homemade Italian cream sodas and surprisingly my favorite was the blue raspberry flavor. the soup of the day was potato and it was clearly homemade and delicious. the sandwiches were good too and everything came out quickly. servers were nice too and answered our millions of questions. cute little place to stop in if you're in the area!

Myra N.

Yelp
Good coffee, breakfast homemade biscuit with egg and cheese was tasty. Next time I'll try sausage and cheese. Delicious cinnamon rolls.

Yelp
What a find! We were looking for a local place while headed south on I-25. Decided on this place because of the menu and ratings. Fantastic! I had the Italian panini and others had the turkey wrap and salad. Everyone was happy as we rolled down I-25. The place is unique and clean. Funny signs in the bathroom and the staff are all very pleasant and nice. Iced coffee was reported as "super-duper". Definitely will go back!

Yelp
This is a great little find in the town of Raton. The staff is super great and friendly. My wife and I came here to drink some good local coffee before heading up the Raton Pass and it was well worth it. It has a variety of tables including even a Pac-Man table to play at while enjoying a coffee.

Griff P.

Yelp
Very friendly staff and cool atmosphere. Just got a drip coffee, nothing too fancy but decent. I'd come back again next time I'm in town!
google avatar

Yelp
What a gem. Awesome customer service and great food. If your in the mood for something light and refreshing the Vegan Veggie is super tasty! The coffee is just as good too. Looking forward to stopping by here again on our way back through.

Kevin S.

Yelp
While traveling from Colorado to Texas we were looking for a good local stop. This fit the bill. It was really a nice homey feel. We had breakfast burritos and espresso drinks. It was all good. The salsa that came with breakfast was fresh and yummy. I recommend stopping in when you drive through. We will certainly stop again.

Yelp
This delightful coffee shop in Downtown Raton New Mexico is a must-stop place to see! The coffee selection is vast from the simple black coffee to something with all the fixings, creamers, sweeteners and flavors. In a simple to-go cup or blended into the dreamer's delight, there are SO many options! Then, there's the food. Oh my goodness! The menu is not the biggest in the world, but what they have is delicious! Okay, let's back it up. This shop used to be called Enchanted Grounds, but the owner had to change the name (some trademark ) issue. No big deal. We'll name it after the address! Before you enter the shop, you know you're in for something classic, with old signs and memorabilia in the window. Once inside, wow! the "coffee bar" is a hand carved old wooden bar from Raton's early days, but it's been restored to complete glossy luster. You're greeted right away by one of the many friendly, smiling faces behind the counter. You have to pause and just awe at all the coffee fixin's, syrups, and CHOICES to have. Again, YES, you can have just a regular cup of coffee. Moving to the register, it's important to note that sure, while these folks take cash, they also take your favorite debit/credit card and even Apple Pay/Google/Samsung, etc. So, state of the art, but also able to handle old school. Best of both worlds! Order at the register and while you're patiently waiting, you can marvel at all the old photographs and memorabilia from Raton "back in the day." Did I mention the food? Wow! Everything is made fresh, no pre-packaging. This means you'll have to wait a few minutes for it. No fast food here! (unless you want one of tasty pastries ). My wife have been here numerous times, trying out different sandwiches, paninis, and breakfasts. Never-ever have we been disappointed. Prices are reasonable, too. You can take your food to-go, but you can also sit down in the restaurant. There's probably room for over thirty people, as it's pretty big-sized. The wonderful servers will bring the food out to you. They're happy to chit-chat.. so friendly! Or leave you be if you like the quiet. I simply cannot gush ENOUGH about this wonderful spot. They're only open for breakfast and lunch. They don't have a drive-thru. However, there's plenty of parking, quick in and out (if that's what you need). Great coffee, terrific food, and amazingly wonderful small-town service. I can't wait to go again!

Yelp
Awesome sandwiches, lunch today was great! Super bummed that they were out of Mac and cheese, but the Cuban panini was on point. Also got an Italian soda and an iced latte with hazelnut to go. Avery was awesome and the coffee was solid. Will def be back soon to try the Chicken Gouda Mac and cheese panini! No pics because the sandwich was was gone!

Yelp
We travel coast to coast and always try the local coffee spots. This is one to mark on the map. Excellent coffee, good chai. Home baked goods and breakfast burritos. Not everything was ready when we arrived just before 7, the cinnamon roll and burrito were very good. We will be sure to stop again. Our only criticism is that is hard to tell they are open from the outside.
google avatar

Heather G.

Yelp
A foodie friend recommended we stop on our way out of town, and we were not disappointed! The breakfast burritos with green chiles and homemade salsa were outstanding and we both loved our specialty Fall lattes. This will definitely be a "must stop" on future trips between Dallas and Breckinridge for us!
google avatar

Yelp
Great fresh coffee. Really Nice girls working there. I'm old, I can call it like I see it without verifying pronouns! I had a cinnamon roll and my wife had a breakfast burrito. Cinnamon roll was really good, my wife loved the burrito but I wasn't a fan of the green chili... but this is New Mexico so what was I thinking? Could be "Downtown Anywhere" until you realize this is a Small town magic in the heart of this awesome little village. Food was absolutely a value and you would be blessed if you stumbled upon 111 Park as you made a journey between Albuquerque and Denver. We were blessed enough to be sent there by a family member!

K B.

Yelp
This is our favorite place to stop on road trips on I-25. Delicious sandwiches, wraps & nice selection of sides.Outstanding, friendly service. Located on side street, Park Ave off Main road into town. Pastries & coffee drinks too.

Yelp
A small town coffeeshop with a big presence! Hidden in a downtown corner of Raton, is a charming espresso bar. The staff give a personable welcome and interaction. The coffee is excellent! I personally got my a Salted Caramel iced coffee and it was delicious. They have pastries or breakfast sandwiches. The ambiance of the shop is quaint and cozy. Go check it out if you are traveling from New Mexico to Colorado!
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped in on road-trip heading back to Denver. Great selection of tasty food. We had Cuban panini and club. Soup made fresh daily. Tortilla soup was the selection of the day. All were tasty. Nice to have a fresh option just off the highway.
google avatar

Yelp
Adorable coffee shop in the town of Raton! Ordered two oat milk lattes and they were perfect. Cute vibe and would've stayed for breakfast if we had the time. Fun music as well.

Yelp
This place is great, by any coffee shop's standards, and we'll be stopping here any time we happen to drive through Raton. Like crate and barrel designed a Spanish Cafe in cowboy country. Great pastries, and even better coffee. The subtle twists to their flavored coffees forced me to buy two smalls for myself just so I could satisfy my curiosity, but I honestly couldn't tell you which one I'll order next time, they're both so good. Not too sweet, not trying to disguise bad coffee. This is quality I wish I could take with me back home.

Yelp
On our way from CO Springs to Amarillo we stopped by this cafe. Anyone who's been on this journey know that services in general is lacking. If you're lucky there might be a few fast food restaurants and a gas stop in town. During COVID it was even more difficult to find decent rest stops. We were so happy to have found this local spot in a laid-back town. The coffees were great. (They serve food too I saw people getting takeout boxes). Friendly staff. We sat outside with our pooch enjoyed our break Restroom is clean. Will definitely return.

Carter W.

Yelp
Super helpful and friendly employees. The food was very fresh and served timely. Definitely recommend!

Cyndie M.

Yelp
This is a quaintly, unique little diner. Extraordinarily friendly staff and original, flavor-filled fare. As travelers we found it a bit hard to find but it was very much worth the hunt.

Yelp
Definitely a gem in Raton. Travelling through, we weren't sure we were going to find anything and dreaded the idea we were going to have to eat at a crackle barrel somewhere. Thankfully, we saw 111 Park and were blown away by the great food and super friendly staff. Our family ate several things on the menu and not one complaint. From the Green Chile chicken grilled cheese, the club, vegan veg sandwich, the Italian, and some amazing Gouda Mac and cheese...everything was spot on. Definitely will be our number one stop as we travel through Raton on our Colorado trips.

Ed S.

Yelp
Feeling urgent for real coffee and perhaps a pastry after bland motel breakfast back in Amarillo, we pulled off the highway after a Yelp search and readily found 111 Park. My intuition and personal observation signaled a gender inclusive management and clientele. Just right for these two lefties on our way to far, far Colorado from rightest Central Texas. Pee stop, coffee stop and pastry stop all just right. Why cannot we find such a just right business here where we culturally struggle?

Yelp
Really cute spot for breakfast, lunch, and coffee. The staff is warm and friendly. The cook was accommodating to dietary needs of the patrons, if possible. They're spaced well for COVID.

Charapa713 A.

Yelp
Stopped here for breakfast while on a road trip. The food and coffee were very tasty and the staff was VERY friendly especially to our two young children. They were accommodating which was very much appreciated. Seemed like a local favorite spot.

Yelp
Wonderful breakfast place with specialty coffee!! So many drinks and food options for the entire family! Even if you aren't a coffee lover I highly recommend stopping in and trying one of their specialty drinks! So glad to find this gem!
google avatar

Yelp
This little place was a wonderful find for me in Raton! The service was super friendly and the coffee was delicious. I had the salted caramel latte made with almond milk. She accidentally made it for me hot and then re-made it for me iced when she realized I'd originally ordered it iced. I tried it both ways and it was so yummy! The breakfast sandwich was delish as well as the German chocolate danish. I'll definitely return to this place every time I'm in town. The whole menu looks good!
google avatar

Theresa M.

Yelp
Passing through to Denver and found this place to grab a coffee. Quaint little shop with sandwiches. The French Dip was a hit!
google avatar

Jennifer L.

Yelp
Their pastries looked amazing yet we had already had breakfast, I got the Snickers Latte which was very yummy and the hubby got an iced raspberry mocha. The staff were very friendly and helpful with suggestions. Next time I'm in Raton I'm going to try the Reece's latte.
google avatar

Beau B.

Yelp
In search of breakfast burritos on a road trip, my wife and I stopped in here. We had two excellent burritos and very good coffee. Next time our travels bring us through Raton, we will visit again!

Yelp
I overnighted in this town and the next morning was looking for a good coffee and breakfast place. If I lived here I would be a regular! Cute place great service great food!

Lisa D.

Yelp
Such a lovely place to have an coffee, Tea, hot chocolate. The food is fantastic. Very friendly- Very clean, and full of historic charm. One of our favorite places, and we hope that you get to enjoy it too. Thank you

Yelp
This Espresso Bar hit the mark! I love to fast and feed! I looked all over Austin for the best cinnamon roll, but no luck finding just the right place. I walked into this cafe to get a Breve and my spirit woke up! Is that cinnamon I smell! Yep! Made my day! Happy taste buds & tummy! It was even big enough to give my husband a few bites...

Gino A.

Yelp
Again.....it's great to go to a place that is consistently open, has good food/coffee and great customer service. Thank you ladies!!

Kim V.

Yelp
Food and coffee here is outstanding. Friendly owner and workers. Cutest coffee shop around!
google avatar

Alice L.

Yelp
Best breakfast burrito I've ever had, the salsa had a great kick that compliments it perfectly as well! I had the sausage breakfast burrito and hot chocolate, both were amazing! I would definitely like to try to come back and try more options.
google avatar

Johnny J.

Yelp
Didn't get to try coffee - wore a mask, but was shoited out of the store by a disrespevtful young girl when we decided not to purchase because we didn't want to give our personal information .... something we just don't do anywhere. When we said we'd cancel our order. She started yelling at us - all the way out the door, and others there started laughing. DON'T GO HERE if yoiu value respect and civility. Good coffee, if they have it, isn't worth that kind of personal abuse and humiliation.
google avatar

J M.

Yelp
You know those coffee shops where you can get a great coffee only to be served a lack luster breakfast burrito on a tea saucer? Well this place ain't one of 'em. Not only did they fulfill the good coffee requirements; they served up legitimate breakfast burritos. You know the ones: made to order, real salsa, and leaves you with 1/2 a burrito for lunch. No hipsters camping out for WiFi, just salt of the earth Ratonians getting their fix.
google avatar

Gilles P.

Yelp
Great spot for a nice hot latte and a bite to eat! We had a turkey b.l.t and a breakfast burrito with potatoes, egg, cheese, and ham topped with green chiles. Both were delicious. They will even bring it to your car. Highly recommended! Call ahead...

Cindy H.

Yelp
Outstanding location for coffee and sandwiches. Great service by kind pleasant staff.

Yelp
We were looking for somewhere other than McDonalds to get a quick breakfast. We stumbled across Enchanted Grounds on Yelp and decided to go here. We were very pleased with our visit. I had the breakfast burrito with sausage and green chilies. It was a great burrito and the chilies were good and hot. We also had the breakfast sandwich and a latte as a family all with very positive reviews. This is a nice coffee shop with staff who care about providing great service. The menu is not huge, but what they do, they do well.
